Soxtalk mourns the passing of our beloved friend Alex (Heads)
The Beast replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I remember Alex as a poster who treated others as respect and as one of the longtime contributors to this site. It is truly sad to hear that he passed away so soon. My prayers are with you and your family Alex and may their memories of you help them through their tragic loss. May you rest in peace. -
I feel like there was a time where the site crashed because of the traffic when there was an important trade or signing going down. But I don’t remember what it would have been or when it would have been since the site is rather reliable.

4/27 game thread Sox at Athletics 3:05 CDT

Thanks, I’ve been monitoring the box scores lately and wanted to understand. Thanks for pointing that out. They actually hit him in an 0 for 19 slump against a fireballer. -

Is the point of the opener to avoid short outings by a young starting pitcher or is it because they are short in the rotation and need to eat innings? -
I don't like it. They should have traded up to get one of the linemen before they came off the board. I knew Jeanty wasn't going to happen. They never draft linemen high. People seem to prefer the PSU TE, I don't blame them. Braxton Jones can’t be the left tackle going into this year. They have to address the lines!
-
Dare they bring in someone like Michael Fulmer to eat innings? Or another scrub in his 30s that is unsigned?

I often thought the food at Wrigley reminded me of a high school concession stand. Especially before they renovated the stadium. I’m glad someone wrote the article so I could say, sure the baseball sucks on the south side, but you can find discounted tickets, parking, food and drink on the south side.

Sox "way behind everyone else" Lance Lynn
The Beast replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Back then. Who would you rather bunt on, Bartolo Colon or David Wells? I remember Wells threw out his back against the Cubs one game when they bunted on him and I believe that’s the same game Carlos Lee hit a grand slam to win it in extras. I can’t remember if Colon fielded his position well or not. -

Who could drink more beer, David Wells or Rod Beck? -
One win closer to the 53.5 win mark!
-
Every time I sit there, there is a fight. There is way too much drinking, hormones and roid raging going on in that section😂 Konerko Getz Kuntz! That’s what I noticed too. The pitching was great and they executed today. Play fundamental ball and make some plays and this team could go over 53.5 wins.

How did you recognize him and what inning was he there? -
Sports gambling isn’t even that interesting a topic when they do talk about it on the afternoon show, but I get that it is a revenue stream. To each of your points, I’m trying to remember when I heard politics. I seem to remember some of it in 2017 going through 2020. There was some heated conversations about Kaepernick, Covid and George Floyd I could remember. I don’t remember it being all of the time though. It should be a sports station but I never had a problem with times that called for some serious discussion by non-political pundits. I felt smarter about sports listening to Bernstein. His interviews, analysis, his introduction to analytics, it all made sense. Someone on Chicago Fanatics tried making it seem like he refused to apologize to that person and that’s why he’s out of a job. I don’t believe that. I think your point about Audacy makes a lot of more sense.
-
Part of it had to do with the dynamics of sports radio and the economic situations and not necessarily Bernstein though.
-
I think the following he had were some that liked him but many who did not like him and either hate listened or just had the Score on during the day.
-
Dan Bernstein has always been a mixed bag for me. I didn’t like how he treated callers on Boers and Bernstein, but that seemed to be part of their show. I met Dan in 2016 at a remote and he was kind of a jerk, but I chalked it up to that is just who he is. Since then, I’ve listened to multiple versions of his show and actually really liked his interviews and his analysis. I don’t really understand what his issue was with this dude last week, but it was really dumb. I bet Bernstein re-emerges in some form with a podcast and long form interviews. I doubt he would Be able to go up the dial though. The Score’s lineup needs an overhaul. Marshall Harris needs someone to drive that program. The afternoon program is okay, but may need to be separated to bring someone new in, unless that new person starts middays.

Tait was who I was thinking of too. I’m glad they gave up low rounders in separate drafts for each player. They are expensive players but the Bears have money to spend. They are also effectively on one year deals so they can use the two players they acquired as bridge players. At least they finally are addressing the line so Williams doesn’t get killed back there. They can certainly reclaim assets by trading down and what you describe makes a ton of sense.

What a boring Super Bowl, it was a blowout and a few Chiefs garbage time touchdowns. I was so glad Brady stopped talking after blowing Mahomes for much of the night. Now onto the new league year with free agency in March.
-
I’m not excited about the game because of the teams in it, but Philly does have a chance to win, so I’ll watch for that reason. I’m more excited about the food we’ll have instead of the game itself.😂 Italian Hoagies and a rotel dip!

I love that. There’s no sense investing in running backs when there’s so much greater of a need upfront. The most productive running backs of my lifetime were Matt Forte and Thomas Jones (signed, not drafted by the Bears). I’d feel better about drafting one high and hitting on one like those guys if they had a solid line upfront.

I’m not really a close NBA observer, but can someone explain to me why the Mavs made the Doncic/Davis trade? And…are the Bulls tearing down the roster to the studs like the Sox are and starting over?
-
I’m only hoping that Caleb Williams gets one unified voice from the coaches rather than too many voices which screws him up. To me, Ben Johnson’s voice should be the one who matters most.
-
It makes me wonder how different and potentially worse the Lions will be without their OC, DC and much of the offensive coaching staff. They’ll still be good but who knows if they can replicate the success they had.

Rays even manage to outpayroll Sox now with HaSeong Kim deal
The Beast replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I want to better understand what the goal is. Is the goal to move the team? Is it to turn over the roster to new prospects and the new way of doing things? It would kind of suck if they are not spending just to move even though I guess I’d understand why. I hope they have exhausted all options within their price range to improve the roster so as to flip players at the deadline. Of course Feddes don’t grow on trees and the old way of rebuilding isn’t possible anymore. And they have already traded away 2 of 3 blue chip players on the roster (if Robert still is considered one) so they are almost out of shots in the arm and need to develop. -
Tim Anderson agrees to minors deal with LAA
The Beast replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hope Tim regains form and salvages his career. And find where his power went because I thought that was what made him interesting in 2019.
