    Amazon HQ2

I doubt their decision to cancel was just because of AOC’s comments. If Amazon came to Chicago, I wonder what kind of crazy incentives would be offered.
  2. Some of my Republican friends were wanting Paul Vallas. Hopefully it isn’t Mendoza, I didn’t like how she won lieutenant governor and jumped right in the race.

That is true Jack. Although there is always a demand for health care because of the sick and also the aging baby boomer population. I’m considering using my data science and coding training to get into a health insurance carrier when my 6 month voluntary termination waiting period is up for my two courses this year. Then I can either stay and have the employer pay for the remaining two or I can have my new employer pay if I can get into a health care organization doing something more in line with the master’s (I already earned the certificate).

Right on the money Soxbadger. I was expected to go to college and I definitely made mistakes along the way. I applied to one college after seeing three of them and did so because I got an average ACT score. I thought my natural abilities were geared towards writing so I thought I would become a HS English teacher, journalist or sports radio host. Those were what I loved about high school, especially since I was misplaced in math and science and hated foreign language. I ended up transferring back to a community college for a semester because my grades were good but I didn’t know what I wanted to do after trying journalism, communications, education and English courses. I was lucky to get a scholarship to a private university my brothers attended so I could get a business degree. I also was able to work on campus in the sports information department and earned a scholarship that way as well. I graduated in four years and a few after the recession. I worked at a few internships, one in the NFL, one at a startup and one in PR. I got a full time job doing FMLA administration that paid like crap but gave me a chance to live independently. I then got a new job, rented an apartment in my hometown and got married, then bought a house. I’m now in a data science program where my employer is paying 4/5 of the cost. I am one of the lucky ones that doesn’t have loans. While I don’t think banks should discriminate against anyone who they give loans to, I do think people need to be more careful in thinking about their career path. Every day I wish I would have done things differently and focused on a career in health care, since jobs in nursing and PT are plentiful and pay well. My data science master’s degree could lead to something, but I am not sure how satisfying it will be. (This is nobody else’s issue but my own and I do feel blessed to be in a master’s program without paying much for it. I also didn’t consider health care careers until last year when we bought the house, but I will probably revisit those fields in the future if I fail at a data science role or if my job gets automated. Then again my wife wants kids soon...) School is tough to navigate when you’re young but community colleges can do wonders to help people work and figure out what they want to do without a lot of financial risk involved. Edit: Sorry to hear of your circumstances Jack, I wish I could help. Uber is a great side hustle and is something I have considered to earn more.
  5. This thread is unpredictable, we go from talking about Machado, to hats, to contracts, to psychological testing, to the Cubs, to reinsurance (two gentlemen got it right!) and now we are back to Manny.? Bernstein, Campy and Rosenbloom were talking about this today. They were debating going all in and giving a final offer by a certain deadline, saying here is the best offer and having another team match it but the Sox then get the last look or they would just stand pat and wait this out. Campy thought they would go all in and up the offer and Bernstein thought they would stay put.
  6. I couldn’t find a video, but this is the best article I found to confirm the answer: http://articles.latimes.com/2001/may/11/sports/sp-62238
  7. I thought he ripped his triceps diving for a ball at first base in 2001.
  8. If only the reactions could be like this for when that happens... ?Imagine if that would be possible. It’s why we have to use the laughing emoji to be snarky. In all seriousness though it depends on the dollar amount. If they didn’t offer him something and someone outbids is, fans should lose their shit. And ownership should be prepared for losing ticket sales they might have had with Machado in the fold.
  9. Does a Joc trade make sense if Machado doesn’t sign? I guess we have to see how the roster shapes up first.
  10. Not from what I can tell. I think wsd was drunk and Chili’s source had something that was just fluid.
  11. Before I passed out last night, I saw the Padres payroll. They can definitely offer Machado a decent chunk of money like the Sox can. The Phillies can as well, but not as much as the Padres or Sox. I think it is down to us and them with the Phillies as the wild card. The Sox should be able to pull it out if their offer is at least $30 million a year. Now I wonder if he would accept 7 or 8 years at $30 million per year. I can understand why a team wouldn’t want to tie up $35 million a year in a player, but maybe they have offered more upfront with opt outs and incentives for the later part of their offer. But Hahn, like John Fox, doesn’t say anything so it is hard to tell where we stand. Yes I know he won’t comment on active negotiations.
  12. I almost wish he would have said, “We feel good about where we are at” and lie to us rather than issue the statement he did today.
  13. I will, but I honestly don’t know what else could be up his sleeve if they miss out on Machado or Harper. Moustakas? Keuchel? I don’t know.
  14. I don’t get the argument that if the Sox were rejected this year, it would bode well for future years of being at the table for those future years. Players could just chose other teams even if we offered the most. I can’t see why the Sox would want to go after mega deals unless it was for Arenado or pitchers like Sale.
  15. Prove it Hahn. Jackass. Also prove that the $175 million offer is bullshit.
  16. The majority of hosts are Sox fans and you would think with some of the hosts being analytically literate that they would talk about the Sox and Cubs. Their guests have gotten pretty random in the afternoons and the only listen I can tolerate for hours is Bernstein and McKnight. The pot smoking gambling fools in the afternoon are obnoxious and don’t provide that much insight. It’s a Cubs station but they aren’t serving the public much. Heck, I get more analysis out of Spiegs than I do Mac and Parkins combined.
  17. If only we knew what was offered to prove the validity of that statement.
  18. Their dumbass Cubs fan Parkins doesn’t know what he’s talking about when it comes to the Sox and baseball in general.
  19. They won’t be saving the money they have pocketed for free agents in the future if they miss out. That was another argument on 670 today. Sports radio screws with the mind.
  20. And Danny Parkins thinks it’s okay for them to miss out on Machado and Harper since it bodes well for them to be at the table in the future. I’m not sure if it works that way or how it benefits the Sox.
  21. I would buy some sort of ticket package and split it with friends, definitely. Only if Machado signs though.
  22. Make the last part that piece of shit Pedro Strop and I’m in.
