QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Id like to nominate some Lenny Kravitz I wish that I could fly into the sky so very high just like a dragonfly Do dragonflys ever get more than a few feet off the ground? Seriously. As for REM's "Stand", I do believe that their intent was to write the dumbest song they could. It was a bit of a "thumbing of the nose" at all the people trying to figure out their songs and taking their stuff so serious. So they wrote the most idiotic thing they could. I know for years it killed them that it became such a huge hit, because it was meant to be a joke, and all of a sudden it was HUGE and they couldn't escape it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) 64 years ago today, the newly installed radar station on Oahu picked up a large formation of planes headed for the Island from the North. The military wasn't alarmed, because a flight of B-17's was expected to arrive that morning. ...then what happened??? I swear, I hate it when people start to tell a story and then never finish it.

QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) Calculus is showing no mercy to me. How about Spartacus? You have to go easy on those old gladiators man.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) You have to watch the show from the beginning or you're going to be somewhat lost with the show. There's a lot of inside jokes that carry over from show to show and season to season. Like Jason Bateman yesterday yelling out "C'mon!". Most people aren't going to get that unless they've been watching the show for a while. So, they make it easy for new people to latch on? They wonder why no new viewers took to it. "Not there for the beginning? Then f*** ya!"

Kind of hard to attack the lyrics. Leppard said, and especially said it at this time, that they had chosen to stop trying to do lyrics that made sense for many of their songs. They decided to use the vocals much like instruments, and just string things together that would sound good with each other. So in those regards, they did a great job. Songs like "Armageddon It", whereas they make no sense at all, have a certain ability to stick in your head, even the words.

God..."Hotel California"...what a downright terrible friggin' song.

QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) if john were alive today I think he would be scratching at the top of his casket... tryin to get out... David Letterman did that joke years ago about Lincoln. I died laughing when I heard that one! Still funny.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. Yeah. One of my best friends in High School was a HUGE Doors freak. He had everything, and he spent days in and out trying to get me hooked. Finally, I had to break it to him that they did nothing for me at all, other than irritate the hell out of me. I hate having to tell people who obviously love a band so much that I can't stand them, especially when they are a good friend.
-
Not to derail your question, but I was of the understanding that The Doors never recorded anything worth a damn.

Hmmm, the wire work in Kill Bill is HK, and anytime you see the wire work in Japanese film, that is the influence of that. The wild Martial Arts, that is all HK. If you compare the Street Fighter series (Japanese) to the stuff being done by Shaw Bros. (HK) there is a drastic difference in the styles. Even today the Japanese MA films are nowhere near the caliber of the HK films.
-
Well, for one, the Samurai film is the Japanese influence. Most of your classic Martial Arts films, the Kung Fu variety such as Shaw Bros. is HK. I'm not too sure what you are looking for, but if you want to get flooded with info, travel to the website www.mhvf.net and go to the Asian board. Post this exact question you posted here, and get ready for your info. The people on that site are VERY helpful and they actually are "experts" on the genre, some of them having written books on the topic and many editors of magazines, websites, and even DVD company owners.

Hey, I love a good bashing on The Doors as much anyone, if not more. But in your attacks on one of the crappiest bands ever, you need the facts right, Robbie Krieger wrote most of the lyrics to that song.

Whenever I hear the talk about John Lennon on the date of his passing, I can't help but think of the song by The Meatmen called "1 Down 3 To Go" and just chuckle at it's over the top rudeness. I miss the sensitivity of early 80's Punk. As for John, great songwriter. Obviously his death is still a massive loss in music. I remember when I heard the news, I was sitting in my Dad's chair next to the radio dial, and I was listening to The Loop. I wasn't a Beatles fan at that point, so it really didn't hit me that hard. I started life as an Elvis/Beatles fan, but wandered away from them. I then became a fan in my teens, then stopped being a fan in my teens and haven't returned.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) You guys don't have the dancing banana smilie. Might make more sense then. I've seen the banana many times, but it's funnier when it isn't HUGE and pixelized with really bad music.

Well, I got annoyed pretty fast.

I'm sure he's an ass, but I am also sure she is so damned high maintenance that she could cause a saint to cheat on her.

QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) The Babys-Isn't It Time....... You are sooooo cool! Anybody that mentions The Baby's is pretty cool in my world!!!

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) the title of this thread should be in green. I'm very open to blue grass, country and folk. I never really listened much to JD....I'm quite happy that I downloaded a bunch of his stuff. Country roooooooooad...take me hooooooooooooooome....to the placeeeeeee...where I was borrrrrrrrrrrn....west virginiaaaaaa...mountain mama...take me home! I was just saying how Denver is the butt of many jokes for no real reason at all.
-
Mr. Denver actually was a heck of a person and he had a ton of talent. I don't own anything by him, but I really never understood the shame in liking him. On the Behind The Music episode with him, watching his Mom cry over his death at the end, that was some VERY sad stuff.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) I ate balls and I liked em!! Yes....those balls!!! Turkey, pig, cow, deer...I tried em all and kept on eating. Now, if I knew what they were ahead of time, I probably wouldn't have touched them....but since I already popped a bunch I figured why stop now...they're good!! Turkey's actually don't have nuts. It's the "waddle" that you eat at the "Turkey Testicle Festivals" and stuff of the sort.

Fluffer Nutters.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:43 PM) I own a printshop. I got a call today from a person who said they found my number in the phone book under 'printers'. They then proceeded to ask me if I print business cards. Well, gee, that's a tough one. Here's your sign. I still really don't get that whole "here's your sign" thing. Is it just me, or do comedians seem like they are REALLY struggling to find funny little phrases? The last one I can think of that had a funny little phrase, that was actually worth a damn, was Steve Martin! But that "here's your sign" and the lovely "git 'er dun" or whatever, are so damn desperate.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) And how does one lift a bungalow? Could he lift a nice split-level ranch instead? Nope. Has to be the bungalow.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) Well, to be more specific, assault charges stemming from a road rage incident in which Flair allegedly dragged another motorist from his car by the neck and kicked a large dent into the vehicle. Flair had to post 10K bond after turning himself in. Better now????? Did Ric have any special "wrasslin'" hold or moves that would usually knock out his opponent right away (and also knock the ref unconcious as he went to do it which would let Jimmy Hart jump in and smack the opponent over the head with a bungalow)? He could/should have done that. It would have been a better story. He also should bring Bobby "The Brain" Heenan with him to do the roadside commentary.
