  1. Wow! Mark Walter, who also owns the Dodgers, just bought the Lakers a year ago (for $10B). The team is being sold to Jared Kushner's brother and former Disney CEO Bob Iger. CNBCBob Iger, Joshua Kushner buy Los Angeles Lakers at a $12....Venture capital founder Joshua Kushner and former Disney CEO Bob Iger acquire Mark Walter's stake in Los Angeles Lakers at valuation of more than $12 billion.

Chicago Sun-TimesCatcher Drew Romo sticking with White Sox because of his...The Sox have been forced to make several changes at catcher because of injuries this season, but since being called up April 25, Romo hasn’t been one of them.
  3. I had to temporarily turn off the ignore feature to note someone arguing with himself.
  4. Good point about the "HRs in the river" idea. Such a thing would be secondary to other draws at that location - skyline view, riverwalk/water taxis, proximity to downtown, stadium district. If they really do have the money and land to put in a retractable roof on a stadium there, the dingers in the river thing wouldn't be a deal breaker.
  5. So, why do the Yankees have enough debt such that they need to bring in an investor to help refinance it?
  6. It looks like the Pope already pulled a few strings to get the severe weather out of the area before tonight's game.
  7. Now you're changing the question. You did say Gonzalez was 25% of the Crochet trade. If we're counting bodies, yes he was - but not in terms of value. I beg to differ that he was weighted equally with Meidroth, B Montgomery, and Teel. I don't know if the Sox should have DFA'd Gonzalez, but he was obviously the 4th man in that deal.
  8. You're damn right that many Sox fans blame Jerry for the 1994 strike......and they were absolutely right in their anger. The thing is, not only did it put a stop to what could have been a deep playoff run, that was pretty much the end for the competitive window for that core of players that burst onto the scene in 1990. After the strike, the team fizzled out in 1995 and beyond. Thanks, Jerry! Mark Buehrle was so awesome. What an incredible career he had for the Sox. He earned that retired number and statue. I looked up Brian Downing's stats and was amazed to see that he ended up playing for 20 years. He had quite a nice career with the Angels after the Sox trading him away for 26 games of Bobby Bonds. I'd say that was a terrible trade, but the minor leaguer we got in that trade along with Bonds and Thad Bosley was.....Richard Dotson, a key member of that 1983 starting rotation. That kind of reminds me of how the Sox traded away past and future All-Star SS (and 1978 World Series MVP) Bucky Dent for one season rental Oscar Gamble. At least Gamble was a key part of that magical 1977 team though he was gone after one season, but the minor leaguer we got from NY along with Gamble was.....LaMarr Hoyt! Again, a key member of that 1983 starting rotation (Cy Young winner!). And of course, when we eventually traded away Hoyt to San Diego, our return included a minor leaguer named.....Ozzie Guillen. So, that Dent trade ended up with us getting Guillen with one season of Gamble and that 1983 Cy Young season from Hoyt in between. Funny how that worked out. I still remember Harry Caray gloating in 1985, when Hoyt was doing great for SD, at how the Sox traded away such a stud pitcher for Luis Salazar and some minor leaguer and what a stupid trade that was. I think that traded ended up being okay for the Sox after all. 🙂
  9. Yep, there used to be a little Sox museum in the main gift shop on the 100 level right behind home plate. Then they got rid of it to expand the gift shop. This was before they built that huge gift shop on the north side of 35th St by Gate 5. Now that they have so much gift shop space, I don't know why they can't provide some space for a little Sox museum somewhere. Last I heard, all that old memorabilia plus the WS trophy are on display in either the Scout Seats or Luxury Suites area. So typically Reinsdorfian of them - make that stuff only accessible to the corporate and luxury clients by putting it in a place where 95% of the fans are never going to see it. Hopefully that will change under Ishbia - whether it's at the current park or a new stadium. And to be clear, this is separate for my desire for them to establish some sort of team "hall of fame" to honor the many impactful players and personnel who don't rise to the level of having a statue or a number retired. Dick Allen, Wilbur Wood, Podsednik, Jenks, etc.
  10. The email says it’s for up to 4 tickets. We only had 3 tickets to the Aug 7 game.
  11. I thought the off-day pitchforks were being used for the Tim Anderson retirement commemoration announcement.
  12. No, I had absolutely no interest in seeing his performance and the Sox sent an email with instructions on how to redeem complimentary tickets. It’s only for Aug 20-26 games.
  13. ......never mind, the email from the Sox just came in.
  14. Has anyone who attended the game gotten anything from the Sox about complimentary tickets to an upcoming game? They said at the game that we'd be getting an email with details about that but I haven't seen anything yet.
  15. They have these on the bridge across 35th St from the ramps/gift shop/bar to the stadium. Yeah, that's pretty cool to see. The Brewers are another team who have successfully done this by creating a "walk of fame/wall of honor". https://www.mlb.com/news/brewers-walk-of-fame-and-wall-of-honor
  16. No, but as an aside, I wish the Sox created a team "Hall of Fame" like many other teams have that honor impactful players who don't rise to the level of having their number retired. There are lots of players that could be inducted - AJ, Dick Allen, Ventura, Kittle, Black Jack......I could go on and on. I was at Busch Stadium and they do a great job of commemorating such people who don't rise the the level of retired number status.
  17. Seems odd to have a game marking his retirement, but whatever. It's nothing to get all bent out of shape over like some people here seem to be doing. It's not like they're hiring him as a coach or anything. If JR, Brooks, & Co. want to honor him, then that's their choice and it's not going to affect this team on and off the field either way. He definitely had a huge fall from grace both on and off the field, but I hope he has gotten his life together and will have a happy retirement.
  18. Yeah, like you said - brutal. How did it get so bad? For years, I've heard people say it's because of the David Wilder scandal, but that was almost 20 years ago. Is it because the organization just doesn't invest in scouting for Latin America? Is there any hope that the LA situation will improve anytime soon. More specifically, has the organization made any changes to rectify the situation?
  19. Since he's only 18, maybe you'll also see him patrolling CF in the South Loop. 🙃
  20. Great write up. Do you have a sense of where the Sox farm system would rank overall in MLB now when adding the 2026 draft picks and subtracting the players who have graduated to the majors (Braden Montgomery, etc.)?
  21. He bailed after Venable botched that mound visit in the 1st. /s They didn’t even announce the cancellation until the 9th inning. I wasn’t going to stick around for him anyway, but I’ll still take the complimentary tickets they promised to give fans who were at the game last night.
