Our friend Poznanski getting a little scared?
If Carlos ever ups his OBP from .326 to say .370 or .380, woo boy. Look out. That's really the only thing holding him back.

Cotts started tonight
Wow, look what I've missed. I get to see people bashing on Kip Wells, but they're ignorant to what he is now. Kip Wells hit 99 MPH last year, ahd an ERA of 3.59 in just about 200 IP, and only gave up 71 BB, which isn't horrible. There are two main reasons why Kip Wells failed for the Sox; one being he was rushed heavily (went from W-S to Chicago in one year. Only had 150 IP in the minors), and had Nardi Contreras as a pitching coach. Look at Wells' minor-league numbers, they were very solid. Wells had a very acceptable WHIP last year, decent BB/9IP ratio and was a good 2-3 starter for the Pirates. Anyone who thinks Kip Wells is still washed up, simply stated, does not know baseball. Now, onto Neal Cotts. As many of you know, I go by stats to evaluate players, mainly because I haven't seen a lot of them. Cotts' numbers are sick, to put it bluntly. Yes, he's walking some people, but his OBA is .170. That is probably one of the lowest OBA throughout the entire minor leagues. When I did see Cotts pitch at the Future's Game, I saw some positives and negatives. His changeup seemed very natural, and changed locations (up-down, left-right) with his fastball. He nibbled a bit too much, but over his last four starts, it seemed to me that he improved on this. In my opinion, I project Cotts to be a solid #2, but hell, I think Honel could turn out into a #1, so what do I know?

The FSN gun also said Jeremy Affeldt hit 97, which is a joke.

Cotts for Tuesday in Anaheim??
Those guys could strike-out the next guy, Cotts will not. Cotts is a one-hit wonder that will be figured out. He is a finesse pitcher. In the majors he will get shelled. You can pitch around walks if you can get strikeouts. With men on base more things can happen on the field. He needs his control or he will not be successful. Hate to break it to you, but Greg Maddux walked around 3 batters per nine innings, and he turned out fine after several years. In his first full year, he walked 4.5 batters per 9, but he gradually improved it. It's dumb to assume that he will be immensely successful or be shelled in his first start, just give the kid a chance.

I doubt it. Unless Alomar doesn't resign with the Sox net year, Hummel is in a bit of a logjam. I really think the Sox will resign Valentin as well.

Adult Swim
I'm siding with Spiff here, South Park is one of the more intelligent cartoons out there. If you're not very smart, a lot of the things on the show won't be picked up. Same thing with Family Guy. That show can throw potty humor at you, but then put some very intellectual humor on it as well.

Getting it cut out isn't bad. Kind of like going to the dentist, actually. The doctor will usually inject some novocaine into your toe, then cut the nail.

Joe Posanski...Send him a message!
Here's something I shot off: You sir, are a moron I don't know if I can but it any more bluntly than that. Here in Chicago, Sox fans have to deal with the sultan of bandwagoning journalists, Jay Mariotti. Never did I believe that someone could outdo Jay, but congratulations, you have one-upped the master. I've been following sports ever since I can remember, and you are easily the biggest garbage writer I have ever seen. The Royals can do no wrong, and even your stated "facts" are wrong. Here's an example: The White Sox last won a postseason series during World War I, when they were managed by Pants Rowland. It was so long ago, they still called people “Pants.” History lesson for morons: The White Sox won the pennant in 1959. They went to the World Series. Could you explain to me how the White Sox won the pennant without winning a single series? Did every other team just forfeit, or did I miss something? As a writer for FutureSox.com, I am almost embarrased to be in the same profession as you. You lay down and praise your home team as much as possible without thinking, while I actually have to spend time making sure my facts are correct. I write on a volunteer basis, you get paid. Mind if we switch?
-
Joe Posanski...Send him a message!
So, I assume that when the Sox won the pennant in 1959, all the other teams died and the Sox won by forfeit, which doesn't really "count" as a win. Blowhard.
