Unless Alomar doesn't resign with the Sox net year, Hummel is in a bit of a logjam. I really think the Sox will resign Valentin as well. Didn't have great command, which led to the walks and 114 pitches in 6 innings. All that said, Cotts threw shutout ball for six innnings and only gave up two hits, on a night that he wasn't great. I think you can find some positive in that, without looking too hard. From a guy who has seen some pretty good prospects come through Birmingham, I can honestly say he is ready to move up. I am not saying that beginning the year in AAA may not be necessary, but like Buehrle and Kip Wells before him, he is definitely ready for a month in the Big Leagues. Not sure if anyone has noticed, but the run support he gets is s***. Not that the Barons score many runs for anybody, but its been really bad for Cotts lately.
