QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) Thinking a deal like that leaves plenty of money to spend mid season. Ozuna is simply an upgrade over avi is all, not really the feature component if you add Fernandez to become the best rotation in baseball with no starter making big money. More interested in gordon for what he does to the top of the lineup. Rolling with sanchez is fine if we upgrade massively elsewhere. I just hope they spend 150M or deal everyone to houston/Boston/pitt for 6-8 top prospects, bogarets types. Anything in the middle is an 81 win team with robin at the helm. yes they need to do that and smartly.... with some players and contracts being smart, in other words, stagger so it will come off in different yrs, to go with the prospects graduating to the big leagues. anyway, 2 contracts comes off the book at the end of the 16 season, danks and laroche, ball park 25 mil, so in essence the 150 mil is for 1 season and depending on their accounted does it the gain / lost can be a trade off with the contracts coming off at the end of the season.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 07:13 AM) We've been through this, why would the Marlins want Avi when they already have their corners filled? the marlins need a if'er and a elite ace #1 sp.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 08:31 AM) Sure would like to be a fly on the wall for these Q discussions. Wonder how many teams are asking and talking about him. Everything is so quiet I'm very intrigued. yeah there is no way i am good at the conversation comedy unlike some poster who did it last yr. but a conversation on kw and hahn arguing and having one of the owners, (jr) come in and have to put both of them in time out.... -
Are the White Sox finally developing some young hitters?
LDF replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 07:16 AM) Pretty much nailed it. The Sox certainly aren't a development powerhouse, but maybe they don't suck anymore. that is why i am really hesitant on acquiring any FA with comp pick. regardless of the sox additional pick. i am greedy, i want to keep them all and trade for more. but how the luck has been going on the good side, ride the lucky hand and see what this draft brings in. lets look at some of the mid round picks the sox made, that 1b who tore it up, i yr remove from a HS.... yeah the success on the developmental side starts with a good draft. the sox has had good luck there last yr and the yr before. except of catching. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) Good stuff here and thanks for the reply. The weight, tardiness and injuries make me want to run like hell in the opposite and never look back but I see what you and others mean by potential. Imo, no chance I trade Q for that potential and certainly Sale and Rodon would be out of the question for me as well. So what would be left that the Sox have that could be of interest to the Dodgers? I'm guessing the Dodgers are looking for a pitcher to replace Greinke but Puig is not worth any of the three pitchers I mentioned. Another problem I have is that the Sox and Dodgers both have too many outfielders so an exchange of outfielders doesn't sound too likely or make sense. I really don't see how a trade can be pulled off unless a third team in need of outfielders is brought into the equation some how. I think a better idea would be for the Sox to go after Ozuna. Sox and Marlins potentially match up better, imo. excellent thought process and thinking outside the box.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) RE: Puig. Here's another thing about Puig. Supposedly, when he escaped Cuba, he made a deal with a man who helped him escape. The fee for this was something like 25% of his signing bonus. Puig not only reneged on the payment, but he told the Cuban authorities who the guy was, and he is now serving a 15 year or so term in a Cuban prison. You could make a movie out of this stuff. To make it juicier, there have been threats made to Puig. It's been a while since this story broke, and I have not seen anything on it for at least 2-3 years; maybe someone here has additional information. that is true for mostly all the Cuban players before, they had to make a deal with the coyote.... JA did the same and waited for his family to later join him.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 02:19 AM) LJ Hoes is another semi interesting name DFA'd...25 and hit .295/.383/.400 in almost 500 AAA PA's this year with 26 steals. .299/.388/.399 in 1300+ total PA's in AAA. yeah it would be a nice gamble. isn't the selection or the draft is determine but the same order of the draft??? so if i am right, the sox will select #10.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Typically when a player really tears it up in the AFL they become more than fringe-prospect, will be interesting to see if Engel becomes much more highly rated. I recall about 4-5 years ago when Tyler Flowers just tore it up for the Braves in this league and shot up the ranking big time. i agree, that was why last week or before i made a post of where did all this success came from, but what the hay, i don't want to jinx the man. i truly do hope he takes this success and really do well next season. btw.... i am pissed. on milb.com they did the best of AFL for the league. no Engel....

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 03:18 AM) Q, Adams, and Fulmer for Puig and Corey Seager? Would that be fair for both teams? i really don't know if you are serious or not, so i will say this and with a reason. for the sox giving that amount,... way too much. many people on this board has held the value of Q way too high or way too low.... mostly to low. Adams is just beginning to start realizing his potential and fulmer hasn't even hit spring training. puig, you name all the negative and he is that, too lazy, too spoil, too much of a prima donna, too self centered, too much of a distraction. etc.... seager, really nice but not worth Q by him self rather with a pkg of several dodgers not name puig.

QUOTE (fredmanrique @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 11:50 PM) I would consider trading the farm for Fernandez, Ozuna and Gordon. The Marlins of all teams may consider it. I dont know who plays short or third after you use Anderson, Fulmer, Adams, M Johnson, Avi, etc. But imagine that rotation along with major upgrades at 2b and rf. Trayce in center, melky to dh. You are going for it with that move and youd have to buy a 3b in FA. Dont love it but desmond? More importantly, Sale, Fernandez, Quintana, Rodon, Danks/ E Johnson geez i wouldn't mind any of the marlins table scrap.... plus they are a nice minor league system... now wild dreams here, but if gordon was available. Tomas Telis, Cosart Dee Gordon for Q q

Are the White Sox finally developing some young hitters?
LDF replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) Dan wrote a post about some young hitting prospects in the system who have shown positive signs of development in the upper levels. Are we seeing a little evidence of progress? nice write up, for me, i would really like to see how it goes in the season in the minors. the excitement of the talent is maybe clouding the overall opinion. however it all starts with good drafting of the prospects and that i can say it is improving. baby step.... -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 11:17 PM) Now now. Let's give Hahn a chance to work some magic. I don't expect all the holes to be filled but if he can somehow shore up 3B and SS, I'd be a pretty happy Sox fan. If not, Castle Reinsdorf here we come! oh man, i was already getting the troops org, setting up a plan to raid their firework display. now you want to stop....
-
QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:09 PM) Why would the Marlins try to trade Gordon? i agree.... they are building a nice team.... they need more pitching. but still. btw, when i mention dee gordon, i would and still like thim, but that was a passing comment. still wouldn't hurt to make a phone call.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) The Sox don't have a plan!!! Lite the torches, its time to storm Castle Reinsdorf!!! sign me up!!!!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) And the robbing tomorrow to pay for today is tired as well. Yeah he traded a lot of prospects. The vast majority of which sucked. I wouldn't mind if KW hit the road, but to think he is saddling Hahn, or another site I read said his quotes were "throwing him under a bus" are just made up based on nothing observations. Whether people want to admit it or not, JR is a pretty smart guy, and he has better access to KW/RH than any of us here. If he thought KW was the problem many here like to think he is, he would be gone in a minute. Hahn isn't a puppet. I don't believe KW when he said he has never overruled Hahn, I have a good source that says he has at least once, but sometimes a differing opinion and discussion is positive in the decision making process. ref the bold, i like it.... you make a compelling counter .... nice. but last yr, i would say i was one of those who thought he threw Hahn under the bus, based on the indecision that came around the trading deadline. other than that, this is a new offseason and as you pointed out, no one knows. i am just wondering how much input kw is having other than the job responsibility of his job, in deciding this time of retool or rebuild.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) Agreed. This is also why I don't understand why people want to convert Montas into a reliever at this point. Maybe he'll end up being a good starter. Who knows unless you give him a chance? it is converting him when he is in the bigs. until then let him have the reps of a starter.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Interesting, you think they prefer Stephens in the rotation instead of out of the pen? there is really nothing wrong on the rotation schedule, it will strengthen him, build up endurance, so he will have a good chance of making it. now if at the higher level let them decide then or if he can't develop his other secondaries pitches.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) http://www.thecatbirdseatblog.com/blog/201...de-a-bad-player wow, #3 is a kicker. 3. Jose Abreu and Chris Sale have been announced to appear at 2016 SoxFest. just them no one else. i wonder what that means for someone who loved the limelight last yr like Eaton.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) It's not very reasonable to judge one ML player based on a teams previous success or failure with other players. Looking at that players past and how far that player has come since being drafted is what matters. Anderson has progressed in most facets of the game and will begin the '16 season playing AAA at only 22 years of age so there's plenty to hopeful about but that hope is not blind due to his progression. Anderson has shown that his game is improving all the while moving up through the system. thank you, you are 100% correct. anyway, there is nothing wrong in off season hope for a better new baseball yr. btw, i would not have answered that with the intelligence that you should. good job.

QUOTE (Special K @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 04:39 PM) You actually forgot OF as well. Look, if the Sox intend to fill those areas of need with quality players, then by all means take a pass on Walker... But i do think we need to be looking towards a win-now approach. We have a great core and this is the window in which we should be trying to do something. These are Sale and Abreu's best years... we can take a 5 year approach, but there's no guarantee those guys will be around when the Sox develop young players. That's why i think we need a win-now approach. I also have zero confidence in the Sox developing talented offensive players. I mean, we have to go back a decade to talk about the last time the sox developed a talented offensive hitter, which is why i'm interested in upgrading in every possible way. I can stomach Sanchez and Johnson at 2b IF we get improvement at other areas. But i'll tell you right now, from what I've seen of Sanchez and Johnson, they will end up being nothing more than utility players in the MLB... So if we march out Saladino at 3rd, Sanchez at short, Johnson at 2b next year, Flowers at catcher, it's going to be another year of just abysmal offense. I can guarantee you that. That's why, when I see a chance to upgrade, I am interested... and then the FO will wonder why the fans don't come out and support the team.

QUOTE (shakes @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) I'm confused why people are counting Anderson as a positive already. Tell me where you have heard this profile before: Speedy, raw, multi sport athlete that needs to improve contact rates, pitch recognition, defense, and tap into power potential. Now, tell me when the Sox have ever finished developing that player? He is an exciting prospect no doubt, and I get each prospect needs to be evaluated individually, but it's one of these I'll believe it when I see it type situations. The Sox appear to be better at evaluating position players a little further in their careers when development is closer to complete. That's where Abreu, Eaton, Alexei types seem to work out. They just can't develop players from the start. Someone mentioned earlier about baseball IQ. I have to agree and I think part of that comes from the Sox penchant for picking and targeting athletes rather than baseball players. Kenny loves football player types that are raw with big tools. That also generally leads to less baseball acumen and the Sox cannot instill it into players. That could also be attributed to the ridiculous speed at which players tend to get promoted. your second part of your post, i agree and been a big advocate of against the speed of which they the sox rush the players thru. but in ref to the bold, the sox are really down, they need something positive coming from the minor system... in other words i would use the law of averages and say, lets hook our enthusiasm on Anderson. it doesn't hurt.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 05:18 AM) I'm just afraid we're wasting careers of our stars so I'm kind of wanting to just blow it up. In order for this team to become a title contender they'd need to add about $40 mil in payroll or so. pretty much happen in the early 90's with that sox team. just add the $$$$
