  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 03:08 AM) The White Sox should pretty much talk to anyone about deals. No reason to limit it. i agree. but aj and dj of the hou is about as untouchables as daz cameron. hou gave a huge contract and someone think they will trade him???? right now, or last week, hou was said to be looking for pitchers who can throw very hard fastballs in any incoming prospects. so Montas will fit that bill. Larocahe... for about it. not in a trade with hou. feliz maybe to no martes maybe kemp maybe musgrove maybe moran maybe white maybe gustave maybe. these may be avail that are some note worthy prospects.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 11:10 PM) There are owners pissed off because the Marlins are getting a huge check from the luxury tax money, but aren't spending much on payroll. But there is no rule that states they have to spend a specific dollar amount. ok, i will go with that.... i stand corrected. thanks
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) 2 is wrong. There is no payroll minimum in MLB. i thought 2 or 3 yrs ago miani was getting to a low salary amount that the league intervene, and i thought the office for the union stated something from the rules.... there was 2 complaints, the union and the other owners. 2 or maybe 3 yrs ago.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) If that's true, then he's tradeable. But I don't think it is. Melky was pretty awful in all aspects last season, including offense. I do agree we need to get him out of the outfield. I think Robertson is tradeable (I was talking about Melky and Laroche in my post above). But early bird gets the worm. SD made out like bandits from a team willing to pay a premium. Robertson isn't quite at that level but he's right below. We've see 2 trades and 2 premium prospect returns. If Hahn has to get a bunch of approvals to make a move, Sox lose their chance. Hahn di$$ed around in July and it cost us. Shark needed to be traded early, if at all. i am thinking that both melky and robertson will be more enticing if there was another player added, making each deal a bigger deal.
  5. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) targetting wife beaters is the new market inefficiency. while that is a great way of thinking about it, i would rather make it more simpler. the owners will not want to take the pr hit by trading for him.
  6. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) why are the Braves so poverty stricken? yes, they sucked, but they have a huge fanbase throughout the south. Atlanta is a big TV market. ??? this is a multi move of sort. 1. they are using the cost of diminishing theory. get rid of players who are going into the arb yrs, for prospects 2. cut down payroll to really the bare minimum that is allowable per the CBA. 3. keeping getting high draft picks. 4. keep the news out there for the fan base to understand..... there is now Atl AL team, so they are the only game in town.
  7. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) If Robertson were on the open market a team would have to pony up more than the 3 years $36M that is left on his deal. I don't think his contract would be hard to convince a closer needy team to take on at all. Are we getting multiple top prospects for him? Most likely not, but I don't think 2 B level prospects outside the tam's top 6 or 7 without having to eat any money is unreasonable to assume. Now, I highly doubt Robertson actually gets moved, but I don't doubt there would be suitors once there is a team or 2 that loses out on trying to trade for Chapman. dang it. there goes my pipe dream of trading Robertson to Hou for some of their prospects. what a wast of good pipe stuff
  8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) If Robertson were on the open market a team would have to pony up more than the 3 years $36M that is left on his deal. Now, I highly doubt Robertson actually gets moved, but I don't doubt there would be suitors once there is a team or 2 that loses out on trying to trade for Chapman. and there are cl's that are on the fa list to be had
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Swapping out LaRoche for Reyes saves them a lot of salary. Like $36M over the next two seasons. well you are thinking outside the box on this one and it is interesting. well the main reason why Roc will do it is b/c of Reyes arrest and spousal abuse over the weekend. second, i really don't see them taking on laroche contract, even if it is for one yr. next, with the sox ownership, i highly doubt that the sox would be interested in the trade b/c of the spousal abuse..
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) Agree, I think that the Sox could get some of the the Rockies veterans that are owed money and perhaps dump a contract like LaRoche's back to offset some of the the money they would take on. The Rockies have a hole at 1B and could use a guy like LaRoche on a one year deal to platoon with Rosario. A deal for Reyes and Blackmon would make sense to me, then you can either pick up a 3B in FA or stick with Saladino for a while to see if there is any value in upgrading the position and find someone to slide in their over the summer. It would also give the team a lot of roster flexibility and increase the level of the defense, yes at the expense of some power. SS Reyes LF Eaton/Thompson 1B Abreu DH Cabrera RF Garcia/Thompson 3B Saladino CF Blackmon/Thompson 2B Sanchez C Flowers/Brantly No, it is not going to be a team that wins 90 games, but it would be a much more athletic roster and probably a top ten defense in the league, which supports the strength of the current roster. the one thing about laroche is Col already stated that they also want to shed salary. if posters still hoping to move laroche, then it is Pitts with Pedro Álvarez coming the other way.
  11. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) I'm not on this bandwagon, but I do get the point of adding a middle of the lineup hitter. They probably need 2 legitimate middle of the lineup hitters this off-season to go with Abreu. Melky Cabrera could be one of those guys, but he's not a big HR guy which this lineup needs. at least 2, you should have a 1b, dh, a 3b at least.
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) They are cutting their payroll way down and trying to build up their prospect base for when they move into their new stadium in a couple years, then there plan is to spend a bunch of money to fill in around the prospects they are acquiring so they can compete immediately when they move in there. smart move
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) I don't think the two teams match up well. The Sox could check in on Betancourt to see if Atlanta has given up on him, other than that they don't have much (now) that would fit this roster and would be worth the cost. I wish the Sox would have gotten involved on Simmons, I feel like they could have matched that return and locked up a good young player for a while. i agree.....
  14. i have this commercial account and right now, i have several all in one computers from win 7 pro to win 8 after the update this weekend, a hand full of them are flickering on start up. dells HP and gateways. any one have cluss????
  15. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) Trading Robertson would probably hurt the Sox in the long run. You can't sign a guy to a deal and then ship him away after 1 bad year. Why would anyone want to sign with a team like that? He signed here because he was hoping to compete with the team(and money too, obviously). Maybe I'm reading too much into it. that possibility of the fall-out is there, esp in this situation. but on the flip side, the team needs players / prospects. doing this is the ugly side of baseball. the business side.

    2015 Films thread

i am not a Matt Damon fan so i try not to watch any of his movies,. but Martian had many other actors that i like, so i finally watched it. it was surprisingly very good, actually excellent. esp with Damon crying / choking up scene. it is a must watch movie.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Our semi-regular update on the offseason leagues, including Engel tearing up the AFL, and updates from the islands and Premier 12 tournament. some of the prospect in AFL are doing well. i am happy about Peter and Lever performance. i was also surprise at May playing. i really thought his concussion would have kept him out. again many thanks for your hard work
  18. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Yeah, Melky has negative trade value and Robertson is good but too expensive to give up players for. If the plan is to chop as much salary as possible and test the youth, that's fine, but don't expect much back for those two. excellent point. try as i may, i really can't find a fault in this.
  19. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) Which is good, because Toews isn't the player the Blackhawks need when he's constantly going at it with an opponent. Toews plays real hockey extremely well. He's no enforcer and he's significantly compromised when he's overly aggressive. man this reminds me of a story, it involved one the of hawks stars, also with Gretzky. for the hawks it was one of the sutter hunter {dave} brothers, for this example i am going to use larmer . larmer was really upset and was trying to fight this player b/c of frustration. the player was surprise but he was trying to hold on to him as larmer was flaying away. thing is, Dave Hunter could have hit him, 0 punches thrown 0 landed for both players, but Dave got the 5 mins b/c he drop his gloves without know who was coming after him. Larmer did not get no penalty. Dave was trying to get the ref to jump in stop the larmer..... it was the funniest thing but it also showed the classiness of Hunter, one of the few times. same thing with Gretzky. now player knows who really not to fight. but then again, there are some really scumbags. found the youtube ..... ~~~ edit. fixed.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) As usual, the problem with your logic is that prospects more often than not flop. Getting four prospects for Eaton (your hypothetical deal) doesn't mean we just plugged four holes. In fact, the odds are probably better you end up with a goose egg than even plugging two holes. I get why you hate "hero worshipping" so much, you seem to think all prospects are sure things. while you make a good point, i am very guilty of trading for prospects. if one prospect pans out and his upside is equal to or greater that the player being traded, the team is ahead. second the trade will be for upper level types of prospects. but yes, you are correct on the failure rate. so here is the question, how to rebuild when the sox org will trading someone for prospects / players???
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) Stacked systems do not always equal stacked MLB rosters. then there is the waivers and 40 man roster and then loosing some prospects b/c the team does not have room
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) I'd be ok with it. Don't know what his value is though. I did however read that the Braves may have to deal him if no one will take Bourn or Swisher. plus for some unknown reason, they are having a mini fire sale.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) That's fine with me. But dispatching either of those two will require Sox putting up significant cash, which JR does not like to do. ( unless they are part of a bigger trade). it was pointed out to me, i believe last yr offseason. that the owners did has done eaten contracts while waiving the player. i still wouldn't know if the amount of laroche contract will stop the sox from doing this. however, i believe that you are right on the bigger deal part.
  24. i wonder what posters opinion of the sox getting cf-Maybin from Atl.
  25. the fascination of getting cargo is beyond me. second, they, Col wants to do a fire sale for prospects, they don't want to trade their prospects.
