  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) Tracey Myers taks a shot at Saad on twitter "Saad on June 17: The money's going to come and go. To win championships and play on a great team, thats what its all about." and how will the hawks gets those goal in regular season and 8 goals in the playoff.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 10:06 PM) The Mariners comp is a pretty good one... Held onto aging star players too long (Ichiro is the best example) without getting anything back in return. Got desperate and dealt their best prospect (Adam Jones) for an absolute bust in Bedard. Developed a pitching staff in Hernandez, Iwakuma, Paxton, Walker that looked playoff ready...with Paxton/Walker representing Rodon and Fulmer. Almost all of their young prospects busted (Smoak, Montero, Zunino and Ackley are both getting there, Ackley in particular)... Filled in with free agent half measures like Logan Morrison, Corey Hart, Kendrys Morales (see White Sox 2011-2015). They have come up with Seager and Adam Jones, much better than anything we've managed on the position side. On the other hand, they have the Seattle market all to themselves, a better stadium (albeit not a good one for offense) and the early benefit of the $100-125 million added television/broadcast rights windfalls that we might not even receive in 2019. They have done better with FA's (Cano last year, Cruz this year) but also missed a lot (see list above, and Adrian Beltre for most of his M's career). The false positive from last year, competing until the final week...pushed them into the Cruz deal this year, which will really start to weigh down the payroll, along with Felix and Cano. nice work in assembling all this info. oh, btw....... but i don't agree.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) When you see Saad about to get 6 years at 6.5 per, how can you hold the same thought in your head that Kane and Toews would not get the same deal we are paying them? and this was something very similar to the Tallon final 2 yrs.... and yet Bowman is a great gm and Tallon is not.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Not a bad take at all. As far as your first point on Ozzie, everybody knew he was gone. Nobody minded him "looking for a job" if that means accepting phone calls from those nutjobs in Miami. The Sox were grateful at that point Miami "stole" him. Good point about his son. Looking back I agree the son had to stifle. That was stupid and Ozzie did allow him to make a fool of himself. Dad had to tell kid to shut the f*** up. I agree now. And about son not getting drafted, I do agree there now as well. Ozzie's kids should have shut the f*** up. Ozzie had a good job and high paying job and his kids needed to respect dad by staying out of it. Kenny also probly should not have drafted his own kid. Thanks. Glad to see some support! re.... no matter that, it was against the rules and ozzie flaunt it, and in a round about way, a slap to the fans who supported him.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) My theory is he would not be surprised at the performance of this current team. He sees the same things we do with the farm, ownership, and no consistent philosophy. Do you think any experienced manager would want this team? If Kenny was gone I'd move Ozzie in the organization in something like player development. Rumor has it Hahn still likes Ozzie. vanity..... the unmovable mountain needs to be moved. the challenged is the exciting part.
  6. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 09:25 PM) If they got rid of guaranteed contracts that could be a reality. nice come back. i like it.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) f***ing terrible Bowman. And LOL at Morin coming back. he should have gotten more. imo.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 10:37 PM) From CSN The Blackhawks traded forward Brandon Saad to the Blue Jackets for forwards Artem Ansimov, Marko Dano, Jeremy Morin, Corey Tropp and a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. hf rpt 3. (4) Marko Dano, C, 7.0 B Drafted 1st round, 27th overall, 2013 Playing in the KHL for two seasons has prepared the Austrian product for the North American game. After spending 37 games with the Falcons, Dano was recalled to the Blue Jackets, where he has 8 points in 21 games. Although he is a natural center, he has been utilized on the wing in his time with the big club. Moving from center has allowed Dano to provide some extra defensive prowess to the Blue Jackets. He is a very capable two-way forward that has decent hands and good speed.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) @TSNBobMcKenzie CHI traded Saad because he was looking for 6 yrs with AAV of $6.5M. May have been an offer sheet coming tomorrow from a team with those #s. That would explain it. Sucks. it was a trade that needed to get done, i am not too excited about the rtn. the hawks gave up 23 g 29 ass in regular season. i wonder who they think will supply those numbers. so here is the question, Saad as 6 mil was he the same value of Toews or Kane at that same $$$....
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) You'll never get fair player value for Sale's quality as a pitcher +length of contract + price of contract. But if you could get fair player value for the first two (quality + length of contract) you could take care of a lot of the price by having the other team take Danks and Melky (Sox really don't have that many bad contracts). Now saving JR money doesn't do much for the fans. One area in which I think the gurus are wrong is that Sale's value is maximized in July. I think you can get a better return in December. In July, any roster contributor is off the table; further, it's harder to take bad contracts because they'd have to kick some other players off the roster. That said, I doubt you could get player value + length of contract value for Sale. I still think that's 2 elites plus 2 other top 100 prospects. that is an excellent point and thinking outside the idea of trading Sale, the sox can use your point and i am sure they are, but for a fans perspective, that is how the sox max the rtn on any deal for a pitcher. the sox are in the drivers seat and if the other team do not want to play happy hap, screw them.
  11. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) "Ride the Stone Pony" is next year's ad campaign. wasn't that a song???
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) You continue to speak as if the season has already ended. Why don't you wait and see what happens over the next 180 days before you pollute every thread with your non-stop gloom & doom. Despite your best efforts to convince us otherwise, the majority of the offense is underperforming. There will certainly be some guys who improve in the 2nd half, the question is to what extent. Might as well wait and see where Eaton, Avi, Melky, & LaRoche end up before declaring the franchise is as good as dead. Without question, the outlook should not be nearly as negative as you're conveying simply due to the pitching talent within the organization. maybe he is making statements that some are hesitant to state, maybe it is the opportunity to make this forum interesting by shaking the things up, or just maybe, he wants the sox to take advantage of the window of selling and trading for a better team of tomorrow.
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) Perhaps, I think that the incestual culture permeates throughout the organization. It is time for someone to come in that makes being competitive their top priority. I don't doubt that JR wants to win, but his loyalty to people in the organization and former players really gets in the way of running a successful franchise. Buddy Bell should have been gone years ago, we are on our second go round with Doug Laumann. The approach to acquiring amateur hitting has been silly prioritizing batting practice power above all else. RV was a good manager to have to hold the spot down while you are tearing apart the major league roster for a rebuild as a placeholder, but he is not the guy you want running the ship when you are serious about contending. But JR refuses to move on from guys like Bell, Laumann, Williams, and RV because they are part of his White Sox "family". Nowhere else in professional sports - other than maybe the 90's Clippers - do you see and owner accept such a state of mediocrity due to his familiarity with his front office. Yes, I know "but 2005" - which if you look at it they really tried to go for it in 2006 and failed miserably. there come a time when new blood needs to come in, to have a new sets of ideas, direction, values, and esp motivation. instead there is yrs of redundancy and owners muttering to among themselves on how those vicious fans have abandon them. not fully understanding, in today economy, fans are not going to pay to see crap. furthermore, the owners have antiquated ideas as loyalty and friendship and forget about the business, esp when the old cliche comes from, friendship and business does not mix. ~~~~ edit - re bold.... i like it.
  14. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) Out with Williams and Hahn, in with STEVE STONE. That's right, you heard me - put Stoney in charge of the whole production! He's always wanted to be a GM, and he's certainly smart enough to do so. The timing is right as he's at the end of his TV contract at the end of this season. He would pass the Jerry Reinsdorf loyalty program smell test, while at the same time he would bring in a new and fresh perspective on how to run an organization. And then once you install him in as GM or exec. VP of baseball ops or whatever, then let him find the right baseball mind to run things in the dugout. didn't the sox something like that with another sport announcer..... Hawk as GM??? look at how successful that was. ```` oops....
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) Scott Powers @ESPNChiPowers The Blackhawks have re-signed goaltender Michael Leighton to a one-year contract. Pierre LeBrun added, Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 11m11 minutes ago Pierre LeBrun retweeted Scott Powers It's a two-way deal which pays Leighton $575,000 at the NHL level ahhh why??? so he can provide good goal-tending at Rockford??
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) Ozzie as interim would be awesome. Grab some much needed headlines and attention to a terrible team. If we are going "in-house" I'd definitely prefer him to the other candidates for the full time job as well. Ideally we don't go down that path. ozzie would be an horrible decisions. most of the viable managers candidates are employed now, and prob until the off season. if RV either steps down or gets relieved, parent should take over. Joey Cora comes to mind, i think he is associated with ozzie, Sandy Alomar Jr .... see if these 2 are avail for intern. if not, talk to Atl, see if they will let Maddux out, since they may not make the playoff.
  17. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) New ownership. better yet, same owners..... let the board members step aside and let the new breed come in and run the team. in other words, their children.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) Why would the Astros be dictating terms? Shark is the White Sox asset. Sox dictate terms until they either decide to take less for their asset or not trade him at all. it was just my choice of words to make a point. i did not know someone would take heed in this innocent phrase.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 03:33 PM) I agree. I'll be stunned if Ventura gets fired in season. I'm actually still not positive that he'll be fired in the off-season. They like Steverson and Cooper. Are they going to make a new manager inherit those guys? I still think that they just move some players around, keep Ventura, and try to win again in 2016. That doesn't make anyone happy. I still think that's what happens though. and if they don't fire anyone, good luck in selling those season tickets and corp tickets. would anyone have faith in the sox org if something drastic is not done??
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...629-column.html David Haugh with an even stronger shot across the bow... Stop yourself before suggesting managers make no impact on wins and losses. Save the sabermetrics for evaluating leadoff hitters and relief pitchers. Some things in baseball simply cannot be adequately measured by an acronym. A city where Cubs manager Joe Maddon works is the wrong place to make that argument too. Like a boss in any profession, the right manager can create a culture conducive to winning whether establishing that new environment involves more structure, accountability or just plain fun. Who is the Sox's Maddon to lead the total rebuild necessary? Should Ventura be the only guy to go? Even if it takes until next offseason to answer those questions, starting the process now makes sense. .... When Reinsdorf discusses the future of the Sox with executive vice president Ken Williams or general manager Rick Hahn — in that order, as Williams made clear — you suddenly wonder how capable he is of distinguishing between Ventura the manager and Ventura the person he has known and admired for 26 years. nice post.
  21. there is no way he is worth, even 1 mil. this is to make sure we are talking about mike richards from la. if so, look at his production for the last 3-4 yrs. last yr he has 5 goals. and posters are saying how much. http://www.hockey-reference.com/players/r/richami02.html

    Music and more Music

QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) Randomly bought a Wintersun album at the local used music shop. The results have pleased me. i listen to it on youtube. it is the voice that turns me off. that voice and many like. i don't know how to describe it. nice muz though. i was hoping for another Epica or Kamelot type of band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKkdR5RBK24
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) Mlbtr posted about how the Astros are going to have 40-man roster problems in the off-season again and that can help motivate them to make a couple of trades for starting pitching. what i see in hou is a trade of their surplus players with a possibility of a decent prospect. in other word, sell off those prospect who they identify as extra players in the big picture. i would not want hou to dictate the terms of the trade.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) Am I alone in not really wanting Dunleavy back? Maybe on a one year to work McD into consistent PT but wouldn't be mad if he went elsewhere. i agree, and i think he would help in developing McD.
  25. i think some teams will be hesitant on pulling off the trade now. i think some will wait until ASG to do it. giving the team a chance to reanalyze the team players. i wish the sox would make a sweetheart deal with a team, where the sox didn't max out the rtn for a player, but got some really needed pieces for the future. but it does take 2 teams to make it happen.
