re the trade idea, yeah i am for that, if the offer is really good. i really hate to bring this up, but if the sox doesn't improve by what date should the sox start looking to trade the players on the major league team???

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) Ive come to accept Danks and his contract will be around for one more season but why repeat with Samardzija? Are the Sox a better team with him now? How would the Sox be any better with him next year? Samardzija is 30 years old, in the last year of his contract, will become a FA at seasons end and has an ERA of 4.93. For me, these are signs that the Sox should NOT keep Samardzija around Can you imagine the b****ing that would be going on if the Sox had extended Samardzija earlier this year and is now pitching like s***? next yr, the sox still needs another arm, who will that be? EJ, Drabek, Noesi, or who??? the sox already offered their priced which was paid already. i believe this is not the real Shark that the fans are seeing. keeping him for around 15 mil, and helps fill a spot in the rotation, i am looking at that, the big picture. re no freaking way should the sox offer him the extension.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) if the big pitchers are not there, and the sox are not sold on the hitters, i would go with one of the prep pitchers. the safest bet is SS - Swanson. i really wished that the sox would have been able to acquire 3 extra comp picks. oh well.
-
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Suppose that in the first seven picks (in whatever order), all the "big" names are gone The SSs (Swanson, Rodgers, Bregman) and the pitchers (Jay, Tate, Fulmer). Who would you like to see the Sox take in this scenario? Personally, I'd bypass Harris and go for Benintendi or maybe Happ. if the big pitchers are not there, and the sox are not sold on the hitters, i would go with one of the prep pitchers. the safest bet is SS - Swanson.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) I guess we disagree. Both Danks and Samardzija would cost 30M+ next season and both have ERA's hovering around 5 at the moment, no thanks. there is nothing that can be done with Danks and his contract. while it was a contract well deserved. it the weight of that contract can not be helped for another yr. so should they stop any improvement to the team b/c of this contract?

other notable names, h/s positional players who were hurt the whole season. Kep Brown, Hoeing Thompson. they were suppose to have separated them selves from other with their bat.... but who knows now. the highest ceiling of these 3 is kep brown, a potential 1 rounder coming into the season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) I am hoping the Sox get Fulmer, and if not, Jay. If both those guys are gone, one of the SS. I know Stephenson is the flavor of the week, but HS catchers are really hard to project. I know the organization can use catching, every single organization can, but they usually take longer to develop, especially a HS guy. I'd rather they spend 4th-10th rounders on a college guy. If the guy turns into Ron Karkovice, it's a win, and I don't think you want to spend the 8th pick on that. The Sox did pick Kurt Brown 5th in 1985. Barry Bonds was the next selection. yeah talk about the catcher position, i agree, take an college catcher. 1. Ward 2. Mitchell Nau 3. Chris Robinson they are all older classment in college, so the odds are on the sox side. draft them and let them sort themselves out with their performances.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 05:23 AM) So to the hockey experts and we have some on this board ... is Crawford to blame for that goal in Game Two when he literally couldn't see the puck? Do the Hawks simply have to eliminate those plays where TB gets a straight on shot from deep where they hope for the friendly carom and push it past poor Crawford? My final question is ... after two games do you see anything technical that tells you the Hawks will flourish in these next two home games and grasp the 3-1 lead? for me, this is a long season. partly b/c they expanded the season. second, Crawford has done better than i expected and he is part of the reason why we are in the SC series. long season = tired hockey players.

KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC

i am going to go totally out of the way in this..... but for god sake RV. go back to the previous lineup..... -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Yuck to Harris...no thanks. We might as well select Aiken, Matuella, Allard, etc., and roll the dice. Of course, Harris then goes on to be another notable exception to the McCulloch/Broadway rule and becomes another Michael Wacha. at this point of time, it is what it is....... i just hope in hell it is a great pick. ' i am so freaking stoke. draft day. yesss. for that pick i qustion.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Considering what they supposedly at least were prepared to pay him, that's a no brainer. It is highly unlikely he would accept, unless he blows out his elbow or something in the next few months. as you said, if he accepts or not, the sox will be in the driver seat. in the drivers seat..... nice song from Sniff 'n the tears... damn i hate the way i think sometime.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) I'd GLADLY gamble 1/15 on Samardzija next year at this point. i am in the group that thinks that if Shark accept the QO, i am good with it. esp for the following reasons. he is a better pitcher than what his record will show this yr, esp for what, 15 mil. he rebounds and and we get a comp pick in a good drafting yr. if he doesn't accept, then any team who signs him will give up a comp pick, unless they don't until the comp period is over. or, in any situation the sox trade him. bottom line, next yr pitching staff will need definitely need an extra arm going into the 2016 season, and he is an experience arm as well. it is a win/win scenario.

QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) Jeff costing him self a lot of money... Up 4-1 and cant even old the lead through 6... I my b**** is, after that homer, why wasn't there someone up and warming up.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) Its possible the Sox are expecting all of Rogers, Swanson, Bregman, Jay, Fulmer and Tate to be off the board leaving one unknown before the Sox pick. Could be why rumors about bats are coming out. That unknown could be Stephenson (likely) which leaves the Sox with Cameron (doubtful), Tucker, Benintendi, Happ etc for hitters and could look at one of the injured pitchers like Allard, Aiken, Matuella or Kirby. Right now though, the trend looks like more prep bats getting picked ahead of #8 leaving the Sox a choice between two or even three of those pitchers. I think a few members have already mentioned the scenarios where the pitchers are available so good call by them. if some unknown factor does develop between now and tomorrow night, lets say a combo of Benintendi or Tucker or even Cameron, gets pick before the sox, lets say for an underslot deal. that means by default some of the fav's will fall.... now comes the prayers to the baseball gods and hope it will be one the sox really like.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:30 PM) I am thinking he takes Noesi's role after they pull the cord on him. They're going to pull the cord on him right? Please... i have been very critical of the sox's so call rethreads. however the way the state of the majors is in ref to pitching, why are they not pick up so of these interesting pitchers that was let go via the waiver wire. no one is going to tell me none of them are not better than Penny.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) Well they never would. It's actually not that big of a deal in the baseball draft though because teams can't trade. you are right, but some prospect may fall.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) Sounds about right although I really hope Harris is not in the mix. Would rather go Matuella, Kirby or Aiken over Harris. Tucker could be another bat the Sox are looking at. i like this idea base on what you wrote. they, the sox should have said 6 pitchers and 6 hitters, make many go crazy on ideas of who????

KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) This one's fine, GMs are supposed to occasionally talk about their roster to the press and since the Sox are losing but not 100% out of it its his job to answer questions and say "we're still in it, no we're not selling, we have confidence in this roster" even if he actually is listening to offers on guys. Plus this week is the draft so he's going to be talking to the press a bunch for that too. nice interpreting i really didn't think like that. real...... Machiavellian like. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) I would imagine it's Swanson, Bregman, Rodgers, Stephenson, Jay, Tate, Fulmer, and Harris. exactly!!! why would a GM announce to the baseball world what would be their real intentions be via a sports forum.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) This is fine and what a GM is supposed to be saying right now. i didn't think about that, but you do have a point. but why even make an announcement. -
re Melky.... i can see how posters can complain and maybe rightfully so. but i will just say, lets wait and see and hope for the best. i really wonder how much RV has influence is making this lineup??
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) SoxNet.net @SoxNet now Doug Lauman on the pregame show just said the @whitesox have their eye on four pitchers and four position players for the @MLBDraft at #8. this is interesting indeed. i wonder if swanson and rodgers are being put out there, for a possible smoke screen.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) I mean, you can never have too much pitching, but they need bats...and a guy who's kind of a natural hitter intrigues me. by all accounts, this is a weak draft. question is what makes it a weak draft?? not enuf elite prospects?? i am going to talk about hitters. so i look at the hitting prospects, in the mocks, who are being picked at the certain number and rank them from older hitters in past draft. that is the only way i can see if they are a promising hitter or a hitter who fills a need. Dewees, he is too enticing, but some expect hiim to be no better than a 4th outfielder in the pro's. yet Benintendi is being talked about as a promising pro. i just don't know, what makes him a better selection?? i like Happ, Stewart, Thompson and Dewees. they have proven to have a bat for several seasons esp in the cape, their stats have been est and recorded in the previous ncaa hitting category, yet they have been look down on, why??? i am at a lost for this. it would be different if they came out of no where and made some unbelievable stats this yr. oh either way, this team needs bats.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) Illinois is starting Tyler Jay vs Vanderbilt tonight. People are talking about it being a good move because they are desperate. If Jay is good enough to start today, in a potential season-ending game, then he should have been starting all season. i would like to see how Jay performs today. re starting all season, why, they made the playoff, didn't they? that was the goal.
