  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 47s48 seconds ago Melky Cabrera hitting sixth tonight Hopefully Garcia is 2nd but it's probably Beckham FINALLY!!!!
  2. all you guys are doing a really good job with these profiles.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) I think most were very happy with the White Sox acquisitions this past offseason. The team hasn't gelled yet, and maybe never will. But the decisions seemed fairly solid. There isn't a GM in baseball that hasn't made a few mistakes. The thought process here seemed pretty solid. I didn't agree with all of it. I was really against what they gave Duke, and couldn't understand waiting a year for Samardjiza. But if they are trying to win, and not waste Sale and Abreu's prime years, you have to take chances. Some usually don't work out. There still is time for these to work out. i still think this signings except for 1 is Hahn's doing. my question is why hasn't they gelled??? they are vet's and not young players, something is not happening.
  4. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) I agree. If a deal were to be made with Texas, I think the Sox would want Gallo and Chi Chi Gonzalez because they're more ML ready. tex..... i wouldn't want to be greedy but ask for prospects that will help and ones that tex would give up. ss/of - Ryan Cordell - 23, wonder if he can def on ss, why not 3b , pitcher - Jose Leclerc - 21 yr, c- Tomas Telis - 23 yr
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Even if we doubled it from 9 to 18 (your 2:1 ratio above), then that still wouldn't come anywhere close to what the Bulls have done since 1985, or the Blackhawks in terms of level of success over the last decade. No matter how many ways we spin it (the record between 1990-2013 was the 4th or 5th in MLB, trailing only the Yankees, Red Sox, Braves and Cardinals, etc.), there's still the predominant perception that we're a "losing" rather than winning franchise, and that's going to take a LOT more than 2nd and 3rd place finishes to change. can you narrow down that time line. like 2000-2013??? the kw era.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) Nope. Might not be enough. here is stuff on the mlb trade rumors. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/06/heym...ey-soriano.html
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Feliz, McCullers, Stassi, and Moran probably gets it done but Houston would never give that up. do you think that would be an over pay.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) Yeah, they have to get a catcher. Tucker and Santana would be overkill. Moran, Stassi and a minor league pitcher wouldn't be enough...unless you could also get Tucker or Santana. Tucker could play of, dh or 1b next season. But Quintana hasn't been so dominant this year to necessitate giving up so much when they can also get Hamels or Cueto for a lot less talent. Or Samardzija. but the potential and the salary will make the difference.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) You need good players to win. If the object is to have the #1 farm system, trade Sale and Abreu right now, and bam, the farm system will be ranked high. Whether you get the production in the future is a huge question. Trading Q seems a bit shortsighted. For what he gives you vs. what he gets paid, the prospects you get back would have to be very successful to match. The Sox know they have Sale, Q, and Rodon in their rotation for many years. That's a start any team would take. To mess that up and be looking for another starter to me makes little sense, unless you are getting an obvious overpay. let me add to the excellent post, in the playoff, a team needs a strong starting 3 top sp's. the problem is the team needs to get to the playoff and needs a team with players to get there.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) This has been really annoying me and for some reason that Konerko ceremony really brought it out. The '05 Sox have become the '85 Bears, and KW is the new Ditka. One shining year has pretty much covered up year after year of underachieving and losing to teams with less resources. The golden era of baseball with Konerko & Buehrle produced one more postseason win outside of 2005. Yet because the franchise sucked for the preceding 85 years, no one seems to care and KW gets promoted. real nice analysis.
  11. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) I agree that it has to be somewhat of a concern, but it's always harder for fans when we have no idea what the medical staff has to say. Could be a huge deal, or could be a minor issue. All I know is that a 17 year old lefty who can already touch 95 with a good hard breaking ball, and a very smooth delivery is really difficult to pass on. I think we'll know how big of a concern his back is based on where he gets drafted. I don't see how he's not a top 5 prospect in this draft class if fully healthy. and that is why baseball draft is such a hit or miss. the resources needed to look in to these rpt. but at least in the next cba, teams will look at these medical rpts.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Tom Thibodeau is on ESPN commenting on how to manage Kyrie Irvings minutes. i bet he would be excellent doing that.
  13. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Allard is my #1 guy and Happ would be my #2 fallback option. A lot of these college arms being projected in the 6-10 range are way overrated in my opinion just because they are "safer" options. allard and his back injury concerns me.
  14. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) I could see a team like St. Louis or Houston overpaying for Quintana near the trade deadline to try to bolster their rotation before the playoffs start. That being said, I wouldn't trade him unless the Sox got a great prospect or two. Hou may really over pay. i can envision that they would want to make this trade. here is the reason, when was the last time they made the playoff and coming out of the west and they really want to make a mark in the playoff. i want to say this so many can remember.... the 2 holes are a catcher and 3b. so how much of a hole in the pitching dept will then be, if Q is traded.
  15. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 06:42 AM) Let me make this point, I am not saying that the Sox should just dump Quintana. Im saying that if a deal is there, and the Sox feel like theyre getting a return thats acceptable based on how they value Q, thatbthwy shouldn't be afraid to trade him. and for this discussion and i don't want this post to sound confrontational. so with that idea of filling 2 positional holes with this trade, then how to fill the recent holes, Q, Shark, Danks, Noesi, in the pitching staff. also remember Danks and his unmovable contract. how would you address that new hole??
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 01:07 AM) And losing him would create a massive hole that would be nearly impossible to fill. I just don't see the desire to move Quintana, I feel like the addition of Rodon has people fooled that our rotation is mucher deeper than it actually is. Trade Quintana & lose Shark and our rotation becomes a huge liability. excellent and i am glad someone else wrote this. perfect post.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) If we lose Shark & trade Quintana, who the f*** do people think will be in this rotation exactly? We have some #5 types in Danks, Beck, & Erik Johnson, but counting on more than one of those guys next year and you're not serious about competing. Build around Sale, Rodon, & Quintana and find a way to keep Shark if the contract is right. As long as the rotation is strong, we'll never be that far away from competing. why not Penny?? i mean why else would the sox have signed him. another names is Drabek, Carroll, Noesi
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) My .02 cents: Thibs is very prideful. So is front office. I'm of the opinion that Thibs will be more open in the future, and could have been more open to Org goals of minute and injury management if they were better at dealing with their coaches. But, from my seat, their heavy-handed dealings with Ron Adams and roster made an antagonistic relationship that made Thibs unresponsive to even their good ideas. That's an untenable relationship. If Thibs could have swallowed being treated like crap to implement the good ideas for sake of team, he may have won against Cavs. But I think his next stop, in the right situation, we'll see some surprising changes from him. i am with you, but i think he will be sitting the whole next yr. but i still think he would really wanted to win, and then maybe quit or something like that. i also think some players rebelled.
  19. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) just trying to find some prospects to get excited about, other than the usuals like Anderson, May, Hawkins, Michalczewski. Thompson has seemed to make slight improvement this season, but still doesn't look like anything more than a fourth outfielder who can help with the glove and his legs. Ditto for Davidson, at least with an improved batting average. Maybe DiMichele. Or Jake Peter. Doesn't seem to be any real excitement around Kevan Smith. Nieto has been a major disappointment. With only one pick in the first three rounds this year, and that one likely targeted for a pitcher, just hoping another position prospect emerges. why not Spencer Adams-sp. i think he is the real deal.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Anything above 80% for non-injured, and 40% for injured, IIRC. many thanks, you are prob right. however if that was done, this yr the sox will not have a 1, 2 and 3 rounder. for a system that is rebuilding that is a huge hit. now if the sox will over spend on the int'l prospects, this might soften the blow of no draft picks, but i do mean going hog wild on the int't signing.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) But it also ignores the fact that the guys he is sticking with were, at the very least, doing the same thing. They should have just let it go. Maybe something good comes out of this and GarPax will be more scrutinized by the press. I am no fan of Cowley, and he probably just ruined his career as a Bulls beatwriter, but he did have the nerve to ask the Mayor how he could trust GarPax after what they did to VDN and Thibs. does it really matter what they will say. all that matters is what the owner think.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) I think where he's at right now Rodon really matches up well against aggressive swinging teams (Astros) who are willing to strike out a lot but he'll get in more trouble against teams that are going to take a walk and make him have to throw strikes/work the count. but here is my thinking, if we as fans sees this, i think the opposing teams staff will be saying the same thing to their hitters.
  23. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) I almost wouldnt mind them offering him underslot then and getting the 9th pick next year if he doesnt sign oh how i was thinking of that. what is the rule, there must be an offer of 80% of the allowable slotted money in order to get the following yr draft???
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) That very well may be true, and maybe Thibs did put him up to it. But it would seem that would be Van Gundy going rogue. One thing we do know, there was a lot of truth in what Van Gundy said. A lot more truth than what was coming out of Gar's mouth the day they let Thibs go. the problem is, this is nothing but rumors, about Van Gundy. so unless there is proof and not speculation, the bulls should have done it classy. how ever in a month, it would be over.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) You keep saying this but I think there's a very good chance a lot of teams go under slot (AZ, Houston, Colorado, our Sox) in the top ten. Outside of the first few picks, you don't hear much about going under slot. It still happens all the time. You're not going to hear the "Sox are going to go underslot at #8" because A.) they're too far down to know what's going to be on the board and B.) they're not going to show their hand on who they want. Arizona on the other hand you'll hear all about it because they have the whole field. This draft lost the best college pitcher in Matuella, they lost the best prospect in Aiken, they lost a top 5-10 guy in Nathan Kirby, they lost a great HS arm in Kolby Allard. This is a draft that is filled with pitchers with no promise to start and position players in HS. It might be the worst in the century. 2000 is the only draft I've heard being on scale in regards to lack of talent. What we have to understand is the 8th best player in this draft is not worth the 8th pool slot. These slots mean a lot less than they did last year. Teams don't look at the slot values as true, this a market and they will evaluate player X on what he would be in all drafts, not this one. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw 4-6 teams go under slot in the top ten. I think AZ, HOU and Colorado are a lock to do so. Law is a pawn!!!! 5 million is the number supposedly. a great insight. problem is, i really can't think of a counter.
