QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) This is Hahn's 3rd season as the GM. He took over a team whose shelf life expired and was pretty bad. He's done a lot the last 3 years to make things bearable. I still think they will be entertaining this summer. i too believe in this team, until well until they are mathematically out of it. i will not say anymore -
Well with Fry getting hurt and at this time, the extent of the injury is unknown. I have been thinking and I was waiting until sunday nite to post this, while waiting to see how everyone else is commenting on their picks. Pitchers, well this is an unknown quality of draft and as it stands I can really be excited about Fulmer. However without him being there, I can be really entice by drafting a positional player. There are 3 that I really happy about, 1. DJ Stewart, 2. Donnie Dewees and my favorite is 3. David Thompson. As a freshman Thompson made a name for himself in D1 baseball, then he got hurt and missed mostly all of his sophmore season. Then last summer he return to the spot lite with his performance in the Cape Cod league, which at that time I started to follow him. In his junior yr, all he did was was tied in the nation as the most hrs in a college this season, Donnie Dewees is #2. the team needs some help at cat, 3b for starters. the under slot can save some money for later players in later rounds. however, i will look at, if fulmer not being there, i would look at 3 prep pitchers, Justin Hooper, Ashe Russell, or Donny Everett. the reason why, the sox does have a little room to develop a prep pitcher. pretty much with what they are doing with Fry. Remember Fry missed a good solid yr with a previous TJ surgery.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) Lightning have as much chance of winning as Hogan does getting back with his ex wife Linda, or Brooke having a singing career brother! he is a freaking idiot. who cares what he has to say. his time in the sun has faded.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 07:03 PM) I agree with you for the most part that it's mostly on the players but the manager and coaching staff have to take some responsibility also. Are they doing what's necessary to put the players in the best position to attain success? I usually agree that a coach/manager is only as good as his players but there are guys that are better managers than others. I don't get into micro-managing every move RV makes like some do. My biggest peeve with Ventura is his reluctance, or stubborn nature, when it comes to making changes in the batting order. I get that players want to settle into their perceived roes but, if something is not working after a while, try something else. I'm not saying overreact and make changes after every mini losing streak but Adam Dunn failed miserably for 3 years in the middle of the order, Melky has batted #2 for about 1/3 of the season with limited success, and it seems no matter how much he struggles, Adam Eaton is going to be in the 1 hole. Just sitting back and waiting for guys to return to norm is, to me, asking for trouble and not being a very pro-active manager. you and Dick Allen made excellent point. i just had a problem of dressing down the team and only the team in the press. the blame needs to be spread across the whole team.. but maybe i am the problem here. maybe i am flopping around reacting with my emotion and not with my logic. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) Yes, a player cannot be added to the team's 25 man roster without being on the 40 man roster. A player cannot be called up in September when rosters expand unless they are on the 40 man roster. If they are called up for a single game, they must be on the 40 man roster. many thanks for that. i appreciate it

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski 18m18 minutes ago Yzerman on Toews, in comparison to himself: "He's bigger, stronger, better" Yzerman...... that was a great classy statement. nice

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) I was watching Sportstalk Live yesterday and Goff was one of the guests. He seemed to back off of the Butler/Rose "feud" a bit, referring to it as "real or perceived". this is the first i heard of this.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Fry getting hurt, even if it is long-term (which we don't know yet), doesn't change anything on your draft strategy. the sox are going to do what the sox want to do. for me, with Adams and Fry, in the system, i am in the thinking with the #8 pick i would go with a positional player, under slot and build up a nice little kitty. i am thinking that some highly rated preps are going to be avail with the 4 rounder and later. now, i am not too sure. but i will continue this later tonite.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) The really nice thing about dipping into Cuba is you have years of growth and development that you don't have to guess at. Most of these kids are much older than the Latin America kids signing on July 2. You have a much more accurate look at a Eddy Martinez at age 20, then you do Fernando Tatis Jr at age 16. nice and very accurate.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Obviously you do, or you wouldn't be talking about it. i am at work so my response may come and go as this day finishes. but the other point i wanted to add is, for me and than maybe it is me, you don't throw your own people under the bus, or hang them out to dry. what happen to meetings behind close doors. this was just a bad move on the bosses of the org. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) And then everyone would complain that he is either dodging the media, or lifeless. i really do not want this to sound bad. but who cares what they, the press wants or thinks. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) It's all about affordable team control remaining. Upton was a one-year rental at $13m, Lucroy comes with 2.5 seasons at a total cost of less than $10m for the duration. That's why he'll be more valuable if he moves. and both comes with a comp pick, if the value of the comp is not to much.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) But this is why teams go over. Under the current system a team can amass four years worth of bodies while taking two years of penalties. Penalties which do not prevent you from signing anyone, only cap what you can sign them for. The Yankees this year can sign nine more guys at $250K each to go with their huge haul of highly rated talent from last season. The problem for the Sox is that you have to really hit on a lot of targets to make it worth your while. There are a couple Cubans that will put the Sox over by themselves if the Sox sign them, but they don't really have enough deals in place with the LA group to make as large of an impact as you should when considering taking on the penalties. that is if the sox will want to sign them.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) You brought Robin into this thread: just to come out and give, what i consider a fair waring to the players in a sense, is laying all the blame on their shoulders. how bout some, so - so calls that the manager did, which added to this season so far. where is RV accountability in this mess. no one is going to tell me, none of this is not RV fault and he is blameless. after reading this, he is completely blaming the players. how bout not fully addressing the holes on this team, yeah i forgot, it is the players fault. and in that, i am admitting of KW of coming out to give this warning or opinion. i think it wasn't called for. yeah i insinuated the manager, but i am arguing about putting the blame on only 1 part. yeah i am aware i have a problem with sox management, but i will address it to where i think is called fot. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) When the Cubs came went over slot last year to grab HS pitching they made their selections in round 4 and six. The Astros tried to do the same thing in rounds 5 and 20 before the Aiken ordeal went down. This is true, we should all probably accept that the Sox are taking the best college pitcher on the board, but it is fun to dream. Speaking of Jon Harris, I did watch Mo St this weekend and I would love for the Sox to take their #2 guy - Matt Hall - sometime around round 4 or 5 if he is still available. He does offer much in the way of velocity, but is leading DI in K's. He has a pretty devastating CB and is appears to be the consummate "crafty left hander". If the big three SP's are off the board, I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox punt on the pick and draft someone they know they won't sign. With likely a top 15 pick next year coupled with a comp at #9 and a CBA pick around #30, the Sox would have a large draft pool to be creative in structuring how they acquire talent in that draft. Next years draft is supposedly much deeper so I would view that as a viable alternative if they can't get someone they absolutely love. nice way to think outside the box. i am keeping an eye on 2 prep pitchers who just got hurt. nice FB and can be a steal in the lower rounds as well.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) Yet, Robin, and he is management by definition, would be considered doing a better job if he constantly threw players under the bus. Robin says nothing publicly, does all his critiquing behind the clubhouse door, and gets ripped for it. Even though it's been out there for years, it's ignored. He doesn't have a pulse, the players walk all over him. So if he gets into someone's face, then it will be why did he throw someone under a bus? let him show, what you said a pulse, by the performance of the team, during the course of a game. not giving lip service. btw, i stay as far away of bringing in RV into this conversation, b/c i was pointing out kw and the fo. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) There is no announcement. It was an interview. He basically said the exact same things a couple of weeks ago. I really don't understand why this is a big deal at all. He can't point fingers at the players, which is EXACTLY WHAT SO MANY PEOPLE WANT ROBIN TO DO IN THE DUGOUT, and that is wrong. Everything they do or say will be considered wrong because when it comes to running a team the vast majority of fans are not very good at it. Thibs gets fired and boy did he deserve it. They practice hard, they play 32 minutes a night, he is going to kill them. Robin should be fired. Look at what they did. It is obvious they didn't practice hard enough in spring training. KW is holding the players accountable. I am no big fan of KW. It wouldn't bother me if he took his act to Toronto. But here, I agree. They players haven't played up to the levels they previously played. That's on them. while you make a good point, i feel as management should not throw the players under the bus. b/c it might not be the whole problem. i just think they should have taken the high road or better yet, don't say anything. -
the whole game may have change now. with Fry getting hurt. at least for me. this bring another interesting alternative with the #8 pick. this is me and my fantasy as being a monday morning GM in the drafting game.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) You could also make an argument we went after the wrong Oakland A's player. With Josh Donaldson at 3B, we'd undoubtedly have a better record than what we've accomplished with Samardzija. Not to mention the fact that the White Sox would control his services for another three years. With the cost savings, they would have had the money to add another veteran starting pitcher to the rotation. 1 year/$4.3M (2015) lost in arbitration with Toronto ($5.75M-$4.3M) Can't believe Donaldson lost his arbitration case when he was one of the best players in baseball for 4+ months last season. the cost may be even more costly. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) No front office will ever say, "yeah, this team sucks" on April 1, or even June 1. If you are looking for that, you will never see it. Even last year the Cubs had Theo in front of camera's talking about competing. the point is, why make any announcement. was this suppose to be a supportive msg, was this suppose to be "don't loose faith" msg... why make this announcement. -
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) I think Lucroy is being way overrated. There aren't many players that are going to pull 4 of the top 7 or 8 players from a team's farm system, no matter how bad the system is, and Lucroy is not one of those players. Justin Upton only pulled 2 of SD's top 10(#3 and #7) and 3(#14) of their top 20 plus an outside the top 20 Mallex Smith. you got a point, but many teams knows that the sox may be a little desperate, so the cost may be higher.
