QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) They should whenever possible. Keeping payroll under control is exactly what allowed the spending spree this winter. anyone who is seeing this and really thinking about it, should see this to be the case. yes the org spent a lot on players to make this team what it is. but, unless this org has the unlimited funds of the LAD or BOS, the sox has to keep an eye on the overall budget. they can not upset the subtle status-quo of the salary. this is seen if and when some salary will come up to either resign them or to replace them.
  2. i was reading last nite, i can't find the link, but it was a blog i think. someone was saying, in the next series of mock draft, they could see Tucker going into the high teen and Shaw making the low 1 rnd. also some movement in 2 of Arz kids. i think 1 may be the ss. i can't for the life of me figure out who is the 2nd. dang it, i wish the sox had a couple of comp picks. Thompson, Wolforth, Bader and Schwarz will be there.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Maybe he will rekindle some of his past playoff magic? oh crap, i forgot about that. he really does shine during playoff time. that is how he got his big arse, contract.
  4. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) I still think Conor is a really good 3Bman. Line drive contact hitters are desperately what this team needs. as i said earlier, i am ok with Conor, if he can replicate his performance of last yr, before the mid august meltdown. his defense..... well lets see if he has improve.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:30 PM) Agreed. That's what it's all about LDF. until i start up on the owners.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) Just to note, as of Friday the Sox are afforded the incremental service year with Rodon. Super 2 implications obviously still in play. that mean, assuming i am right, the sox are going to make sure his pitches are perfected. not a trail by fire good.

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) If you know that the difference between most fastballs and change-ups is roughly 10 MPH, then why would you think Montas' change-up would be in the high 70s/low 80s if his fastball is sitting high 90s and touching 100? Sorry if that comes across as dickish, that's not my intention, I'm just wondering. I never played any level of organized baseball (not even Little League ), but I'd have to think the speed differential from a 100 MPH fastball and a 90 MPH change-up would be pretty drastic for a batter despite both pitches being considered "fast." A change-up isn't necessarily a "slow" pitch. From my understanding, it's meant to deceive the batter into believing it's a fastball when it's not, which will hopefully lead him to swing earlier than he should have. Given the ~10 MPH difference in speed, most change-ups are in the low 80s because most pitchers fastballs sit in the low 90s. I suppose if a pitcher were able to throw a fastball at 110 MPH, a change-up at 100 MPH (both pitches considered fast by anyone's standards) would still be effective, seeing as how it's all about the speed differential between the two pitches. nah you are right and maybe i did not write it up the right way. there is hardly any starters that is constantly in the high 90's so their change up is 10 mph less or there about. now with hitters, if they are constantly seeing fast balls in the mid to low 90's, the change up will not offer that much of a surprise, b/c of the speed of the change. that is me being a fan with limited to no experience in ball. Montas change up 90, a normal person pitching, fastball 90. same speed.

Tracey Myers ‏@TramyersCSN 9m9 minutes ago Defensive pairs: Keith-Hjalmarsson, Oduya-Seabrook, Timonen Rozsival. #Blackhawks ugh.... Beckell is playing.....
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:24 PM) It's amazing that you thought the discussion came from your post. How often does the original post dictate the conversation in a thread after the first page? It's pretty obvious that 3B/C are going to be a point of emphasis moving forward. let me also add, the topic of a much needed talk. this was a harmless topic and everyone is being kool with the response.
  10. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) They typically do but I think Freddy was fighting a little harder than he normally would have. They were already up by 6 runs, had a really good (and rested) bullpen and he was over 100 pitches. If it was a normal game in say June or July, he probably wouldn't have fought has hard to stay in. and again, you are 100% right. but that is were the coach has to be just as much as a hard arse to say, save it for the next time.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) I have a feeling you are going to see couple weeks of 5 inning starts to limit his minor league innings. If all goes well he'll come up around the beginning to mid-May and stay with the limitation for a bit to try to push his longer, better starts toward the end of the season before he wears out. i am really torn on this, i feel as he should be seeing 5 innings until ASG. i still like to see how the team does before i start looking at the playoff, but i can't help it, i really do think it is possible.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) I think if you looked at trades where franchise players are involved, most of the the time, while you may get some slick prospects, your baseball team gets worse. The biggest thing your team gains is the financial relief. Longoria isn't making TB bleed cash. He isn't constantly injuried like 4 of the 5 players your mentioned. I think the goal of trading the guys you mentioned is to save the team some money, not to make the team better in the short term, and he is signed so long, he still will be there if there is another rebuild. Prospects are still maybes. Longoria is the one guy they signed of all the guys they have had come through. It's obvious the team thinks he is the face of the franchise. I think it's a pipedream they would trade him away, at least for anything the other side would call any close to fair trade. i agree with the most part of what you are saying, so don't get wrong on this next part. yes the trade would be great, only if the rtn is worth its weight. a #1 and 3 type pitchers plus some needed positional help. that may do it.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) Trading him could actually be the smart play though. Do you think people would go to a new stadium to see 1 star player? I'm not trying to argue, I've just never understood that sentiment. Rockies and Phillies could benefit from dealing Hamels, Lee, Utley, Cargo, Tulo. I've seen the excuse that the fans go to watch those guys play. I'd much rather have the return and the possibility of a better baseball team instead of going out and seeing a bad team play that has "stars" on it. I know it's a different scenario from Longoria but if they could get 5-6 players? I'd consider it. and Balta said, the rtn will help rebuild the team, if the rtn is worth anything. however having that 1 star to help draw the fans, i can see that. pretty much a double edge sword. damn if you do, damn if you don't.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 06:53 PM) Why do we always discuss Danks and act as if Noesi is any better? Sox have a problem with both of them in terms of being very effective. my guess, it is b/c of the salary.
  15. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) You are very biased. my command of this european language is not my forte.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) I don't see the Sox as a fit because they shouldn't mortgage the future in 2015. If the Sox were to inquire on Longoria, it would be in June/July and I think Rodon will already be featured prominently by the Sox and I doubt the Sox would disrupt the rotation at that juncture. Tim Anderson is not a top flight prospect at this point but a few good months and he'll improve his nearly consensus top 50 prospect ranking. Sure, MLB teams don't value top prospect lists, but using them as a benchmark, an improvement on his current standing would put him in the top class of prospects in the MLB. He'd essentially be the prospect they envisioned to Tim Beckham to be. a view of T Andeerson being a top flight is rather subjective. if a team is in need of a MI then the priority of getting a Anderson would fill the bill. do you think the ranking of a prospect was or is needed by the org??? i always thought it was for us, the fans to help in their enthusiasm of their club.
  17. i am very bias in this, all i want to see is the sox minor league system.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) To stress...the White Sox are probably a pretty good fit for Longoria. They have a long term need at 3b, don't have anyone who could immediately fill that, could probably take on the salary, want to win now, and have the type of top flight player available in their system Tampa bay would want back. The problem is that player is Rodon. IMO, if you're not willing to give up Rodon for him then the conversation ends from the White Sox's side, because the Rays don't have to move him and they ought to wait until they get that level of return for him. i like the points you are making, but the problem is, not only the price in prospects that needed to be paid, but the salary. if you remember during the off season, the owner management couldn't acknowledge or wouldn't acknowledge that they had money to absorb that kind of salary.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) I guess since the price of trading for Longoria out of the Cubs probably would be Soler+ that might make some sense, but hard to call that an ideal matchup. that is how i was taking that comment, meaning they have more to trade with.
  20. i don't think the sox org should not mortgage anything, esp since the org is rebuilding. many of this, missing parts could be address thru smart moves in the fa's. pretty much like getting Adam L and Melky C for a short contract life. at the same time, getting better thru the draft.
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) He's still pretty young but looks like alot to work on offensively. Figuring he's only hit 13 home runs in 717 plate appearances might not help. but that is my point, now in this era, the hrs may not be as important if the hitter is batting avg is a 250. what is a good spread??? i am rather lost in this. yeah i like the 3b to hit 25 hrs but if his avg is sacrificed?? i think i wrote it right.
  22. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) Do you really see him taking as many walks as Ordonez? it would be fantastic if he can.
  23. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) Apparently Ozzie had no clue about the CG streak and didn't know why Freddy wanted to stay in the game so badly. my opinion i am writing has nothing to do with what you wrote. but competitors, don't they have this, let me finish this, he is mine kind of attitude?
  24. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) They do have trey michalczewski who is their 8th top prospect at 3b dang it, i forgot about him. btw, do you think he will address the power numbers many posters love to see??
  25. imo, the sox need to suck it up and address this in the draft. obviously Davidson is not the answer for the future. need a 2 - 3 yr fix until the draft pick will be making a name for himself.
