  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB 54s54 seconds ago Crystal ball very murky, but if I had to wild-guess on @Astros right now at 2 & 5 I'd go with Dansby Swanson & Kyle Tucker. @MLBDraft well i am going to use this thread as a reference of 2 players and add some more. Callis got me thinking, and as to Callis wild guess, mine i will deal with the top 7. this is according to my guess-estimate. now this is no order. swanson ---- kirby rodgers ----- bergman tate --------- buehler or allard or hooper. aikens so that will leave the sox picking #8 and who will it be. based on 4-10-15 date. now according to callis, tucker may not be there, i do not doubt him, but as now, the mocks having him maybe in the 20's, another name i starting to really like is chis shaw and david thompson. when all is said and done, these names may be in the 1st rnd.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 12:46 AM) LaRoche stare down GIF: https://twitter.com/based_ball/status/58596...4838656/photo/1 oh man. i missed it. but the stare down on the link is a thing of beaut.
  3. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) They signed three catchers and three shortstops, they are all unlikely to remain at those positions. Nunez was being talked about as a 3B last year when he signed, so some of these guys will get moved around once they are in pro ball and it is determined whether they can handle the position long term. I wouldn't read too much into the positions that they are playing at this time, if they can handle SS, they can be plugged in anywhere on the diamond. i guess in a way i know that, but i was being a little too suave (spanish adj which i failed) but you are extremely right. from a ss position, that is the based, that means they have the talent to handle any positions.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 11:13 PM) Since it is behind a paywall I don't want to plagiarize the content of the article. Here are some names though that we really did hear about signing last summer. Jose Colina - C - Venezuela Edinxon Arias - RHP - Venezuela Jorgen Rosas - SS - Venezuela Andres Sanchez - RHP Cuba (via Venezuela) Carlos Perez - C - Venezuela Yosmer Solorzano - RHP - Dominican Republic A lot of good things about each. Interesting that Carlos Perez is the brother of the other Carlos Perez that the Sox were rumored to be interested in when they selected Nieto in the Rule 5 draft. a nice wide array of positions, except for the outfield.
  5. the thing is, the FO wants to keep it slow for Adams, but lets think of it this way, i know i am a homer and rooting for Adams, but what if he comes out blazing. just utterly destroying the comp there. the org may not have a choice to move him up. i really truly think he is going to open a lot of people eyes and move up quickly.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Might be personal issues or other things that pushed someone to the brink they weren't previously capable of. Never know, I'm sure everyone has had a bad day where they come home and were a bit down or angry. For me, I go play basketball and do something active, but if you didn't have that release and you were in a position where you cared a fire arm and were already upset or had a short fuse, who knows what people are capable of. I'm as non-violent as it gets but I wouldn't want to be a cop and be in situations where your adrenaline is already at high's depending on the situation you are in, let alone what else is going on from a personal perspective which can't always be turned off. as stupid as this sounds, the cops are not suppose to have those bad days. b/c they carry a gun with them at work and at all times. cops are in a stressful job and kick in the huge adrenaline rush, that is a recipe for disaster. the other part, if he was by himself then many factors can be considered. if he wasn't, he should have let another take of lead. the 1 statement that is practice over and over is "i feared for my life". now it will be the lawyers to fight it out. the first and foremost question asked is, how much force was necessary to defend one self??? shooting the patrol man pistol 2 x 5x 8x..... now it has to be justified, for the key answer, over whelming force used.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) I thought about that John Oliver segment too. Obviously, shame on him for being a deadbeat dad. But, I would like to know how severe these fines are that may send people into a spiral of never being able to pay off these debts. then go after the bureau-cats individually and civilly for derelictions of duty, and all sorts of the legal mambo-jumbo BS that goes with that. going after the money will force them to do things..... they will set a new standard, leaving a legal precedent where any old incidents and new can sue them..... money.... go after the money.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) You don't want to be poor in this country. Because when you're poor, you have to resort to those payday loans or some other sketchy crap where they charge you crazy interest. It's just a cycle of debt you can't get out of. ahh you mean the legal version of loan sharking.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) They can't hate them that much, they seem to prefer it over ever charging anyone. you are right, a rather tongue in check way of resolving this kind of stupidity. then the need a good, ruthless lawyer who will not only go after the entire PD, the city, the State and even going after them in a personal criminal and civil actions as well.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) You can buy it or not, it happens. But again, I do NOT know if that is the case here or not. No idea. This will eventually become the norm. States will end up requiring it, but probably only for departments of a certain size (the equipment is an expense). I know the Albuquerque PD, which has been all over the news the past couple years for bad shootings, now requires it for all their officers. But there was also a shooting there recently where the camera was off. So you need to not just have them, but create a system that will ensure they are on at all times, and have officers know pretty quickly if they fail to work. the one thing the state / city really hate, beside the bad press, is the wrong full death lawsuits. they will go for a no contest, settle out of court .... and the state / city will make things change rather quickly.... max out the money demands.

  14. QUOTE (newbiesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Thanks all. And yes, I'm blown away by the knowledge of MiLB/Sox farm system on this site. Growing up in N Ga, I'm a Braves fan (or was until they passed Spencer with the 32nd pick ), I thought I followed their farm system well. I'm not in the same ballpark with you guys. Look forward to following along! you haven't seen anything, these guys have a newsletter of some sort, i may not be using the right english to describe it. the one admin runs it, Northside something or another. others just post other articles. any questions, they usually answer with several hours. great and prof job done by the admins. fyi.... i was really surprise that Spencer was there at the 2nd rnd, i had him pegged in the late 1 rnd, the sox got a steal. can you provide a little insight info..... i have him as a low #1 solid #2 sp in the rotation. has the scouts mention what his upside may be???
  15. did you know, that Hou has his older brother in the minors, his name is preston tucker.
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB 54s54 seconds ago Crystal ball very murky, but if I had to wild-guess on @Astros right now at 2 & 5 I'd go with Dansby Swanson & Kyle Tucker. @MLBDraft dang it
  17. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) You are required to purchase all tuxedos for the party. Typically you should skip down the aisle in front of the bride in a traditional american wedding. sometime, depending on the wedding traditions, the grooms men escort the guest to the seating in church. sometimes grooms men have a little special toast with the groom before the wedding ceremony, a nice bottle of bubbly. it all depends on the elaborateness of the wedding. i like to think, as a grooms men, what can i add to make this little special day a little more special without making a huge production of it.
  18. QUOTE (newbiesoxfan @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) Newbie sox fan here. Just joined up. Became an instant sox fan when they selected my hometown boy Spencer Adams. You guys will love this kid. He is one focused individual while on the mound and one of the best kids I have been around off the mound. I still believe scouts have his control rated low and his slider a touch low. The slider is flat out nasty. Maybe not quite Rodon nasty, but nasty nontheless. Looking forward to following the Sox and Spencer this season. Plan on driving UP (lol) to Kannapolis a couple of times to watch Spence throw. Anyway, just wanted to chime in. newbiesoxfan welcome aboard. fyi, this site and the mods and admin are the best. this site, and the posters are soo intune with the minor prospects and really enjoys the progression of them..... you will enjoy being here.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 05:22 AM) I have been absent from the board for some time due to a career change that allows me considerably less time by a computer. All the same, I'm still doing what I can do follow the Sox. That said, forget about opening day. The Royals had to win, right? Home opener after a World Series appearance, the Sox let them win. It is ok. There are still 161 more games, and I think they will win 154 of them. As follows: -they lose 2 to Detroit because they'll catch them when they are strong -they'll lose 1 to Cleveland because they have a pretty good team they'll lose one to the Cubs out of sympathy -- they'll lose 1 to the Astros because they're a solid-ads sabermetric team -they'll lose 2 to the Twins because goddammit the Twins will find a way and I hate them and so that's why There, it's outlined. Go do it boyzzz. this post is a post after my own heart, i love it!! on a personal side. good luck in the new job.
  21. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 05:45 AM) I dunno. Ive never been shot at but i think I'd keep running too! Anybody catch the movie Captive w Ryan Reynolds? It's at redbox. Holy s*** those cops that devote their lives to finding kidnapped kids are heroes. What a 180 from these beat cops shooting regular folks. That's a cop. Stopping monsters. That movie made me want to devote my life to stopping such horrible things. Give them whatever they need. Give them the suburban traffic cop's 70k armored Tahoe. cops, are in some respect a necessary evil. evil, b/c some cops who are dirty, lazy, or jerks can ruin the rep for the whole uniform PO. i know, i was for 10 yrs on both sides. a brother who was a cop and me, running the streets seeing the bad cops.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 05:17 AM) You just can't shoot a traffic violator in the back as he's running away. I know nothing about that cop, but he's going to jail for murder. If he's a normal, upstanding citizen, I feel sorry for him. I realize Milkman laughs at me, but why can't these bad cops just shoot a guy in the leg or the foot or the hand? What's with the shooting to kill in all these instances? s***, the minute the lawbreaker realizes the cops are shooting at him, he's probably going to stop running anyway unless he is suicidal. Greg, as someone already mention, those shot are nearly impossible. only a sharpshoot, with a scope and having a luxury of time and planning may be able to do that, but with a rifle. those cops, are in a time critical situation, the blood it pumping fast, the adrenalin to race thru you system. the powers to be are aware of this, so they make it a policy to shot to kill, 2 shot tap. now they are rethinking of the 2 tap shot in the body. there is a discussion of a 2 tap shot, 1 in the torso and a killing one in the head. b/c now that body armour, meaning bullet proof vest, is out there. the cops philosophy is, they are giving the bad guy a chance to surrender and if they want to shoot it out, make sure, they will not have a chance to kill you. you have families, you do not deserve a visit by PO superiors accompanied with a priest, knocking on you door.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 10:45 PM) You make great points there. One question, and on a tangent, if you had an employee whose tweets were costing you money, would you say fire the employee or lose business from customers that don't have the same enlightened attitude you have? On this case, if you were on a jury and learned that the officer that arrested someone had just sent a message that showed hatred for that race, would it affect your opinion of the officer's testimony? If an hour earlier he sent a message about idiot white guys who think they own the world, then arrested a rich white guy, would you have an issue? I think I would. that is going to a legal problem the ability to have their rep call into question. but this is a double end sword, those police officers have rights, their rights to be stupid, whether it was inherent or taught. now how will it play out in their ability to do their job. this is called perceptions of those who he will interact with.
  24. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) I'm starting to really like Ian Happ from Cincy....athletic switch hitter with position flex. Can't ask for much more than that in a prospect. If not him than I would probably go with 1 of the SP that falls not named Aiken. Bickford, Kirby, or Matuella. preseason, i was extremely hype on Ian Happ, Kirby, Rodgers, and Aiken. i still like Happ. all he is doing is hitting, been on a hitting run since cape cod when he wanted to prove he can hit the hrs. re Bickford, unless he develop those secondaries pitches, he is look at a pen. Matuella, i feel for him. i just need the sox medical people to check out his medical
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) Definitely, you can always trade quality prospects to fill holes in your roster, so no reason to take a guy you dont like as much when there is someone you think can provide more value. To me, the MLB draft is the opposite of the NFL draft as the goal is to attain as many valuable assets as possible - while in the NFL with small rosters you need to get guys that fit your needs. I believe this draft isn't especially good at the top, as there are no clear cut top of the draft guys, but deep in the way that the top 20 picks are pretty much interchangeable at this point. in most cases, i agree, but when the draft varies as much as this upcoming draft. getting a pitcher who may not develop as one may hope, or getting a positional players with good to even better upside. i will go with the positional players. that was the whole problem i was having with the BPA in this draft. the talent is in little clusters and an injury can turn everything around.
