  1. QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) I like the comp of Furcal for Swanson. I would be ok with the sox taking him at 8, he appears as if he will be able to move rather quickly especially if in this system and that would afford the sox the ability to move Anderson mid season if there are possible major upgrade(s) to be had. the 2 SS in the draft, are nice options, that I like. I was always thinking the major pitchers would not be there. that is the major college pitchers. however both SS are, according to the pro's, have the ability to stick at SS but they may also move to another part of the infield. I think that is the scouting rpt ways of saying that their skill level can help in other ways. now, with the injuries, Swanson may not be there @ 8.
  2. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 01:07 PM) This Hawk Harrelson type of argument doesn't work for me and it shouldn't work for you. The White Sox did not have a chance to win every year. There was always some ungodly hole that couldn't be filled in free agency with the corpse formerly known as Ken Griffey Jr. When you change general managers, from a baseball standpoint, you change regimes. Period. What Rick Hahn wants, Rick Hahn gets. It is a totally new regime. Also, you can't expect to "win every year" and not draft well. Go back and look at Williams' draft history. Chris Sale and Gio Gonzalez are boats in a sea of bad. Drafting Chris Sale was great, and Kenny Williams is a good evaluator of talent, but Rick Hahn signed him to his current contract, which is so team friendly for a player of his age and talent. If you can't tell this team is so much differently run under Rick Hahn, I can't help you. Maybe watch more games? I really have a problem believing that Hahn had a lot of major input when KW was running the show. but at some point, Hahn must have been giving input, input in which the powers to be trusted him.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) There was an interview with KW a couple of weeks ago where he stated he kind of misses the interaction with other GMs, but his new position gives him an opportunity to have a life, and he enjoys the fact that he still has final say. And Hahn has been vetoed , i read where Avi Garcia is KW's boy. Hahn wanted Middlebrooks. The reason it is run differently is because the team was in different places. Before the Sox signed Dunn, and brought back AJ and Paulie, KW proposed a rebuild to JR. It obviously won't be exactly the same, but Hahn still reports to KW and if KW thinks its a bad idea, Hahn's idea gets the kabosh. If KW was still the GM, he would have gone the rebuild route. I am pretty sure the same players would have been drafted if KW was still the GM as well. Hahn has been great. I would love to see him run his own show. But the fact is he doesn't. nice post. so in other words, they both make the perfect couple as it stands now. the yin/yang of this current team we are seeing.
  4. 2 more new mock draft.... i think these do show the results of the injured pitchers. https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...draft-4-1-4615/ http://sbb.scout.com/story/1534142-2015-mlb-draft-mock-2-0
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) So...officers should be fired for something they said (texted) in private and what appears to be mostly while not on the job. So should people who tweet/text death threats to pizza owners also be fired from their jobs? If we are policing thought and speech, I would think the death threats are just as bad as racial comments. Or is headhunting only OK for certain groups? well i am glad someone posted this. about SFO.... i don't know, but isn't there a freedom of speech and thoughts. come on, this is like a government control area, where no one can have any rights to express themselves. this was not done during work, this was not done in when in performance of their job. it was while there were tweeting. the subject matter, yeah it was stupid and asinine and very racially motivated. but does that in of itself show cause for removal of their jobs?? sidetrack, i would really like to know what there past performance ratings were like.
  6. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 07:08 AM) Lol - for your information, "current Sox organization" = past Sox organization. Jerry + Kenny + Rick = Jerry + Kenny + Rick Don't get me wrong - it would appear this triumvirate, after many years of trying, have been making better decisions in the past year and a half or so then they have in a long while. However, I wouldn't assign "brilliance" to anything just yet. I prefer to be "results oriented" when it comes to Jerry Reinsdorf-run baseball organizations, based on three and a half decades worth of unimpressive results, including those of the most recent decade. For me, I will only declare "brilliance" once I see this team finally in some state of sustainable success. That means win, and win often. Make it to the postseason in consecutive seasons for the first time in our lifetimes. Win and invigorate a dormant fan base which will then translate into more fannies in the seats. That's what I mean when I say "results oriented". Once they accomplish that, I'll join the "current Sox organization is brilliant" bandwagon faster than Grant took Richmond!! BRAVO ...... i have been trying to play nice, sox b-ball is right around the corner. where have you a couple of weeks ago, when i needed help in this argument ....

  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 04:19 AM) Well, yeah....I get that too....just watching kids playing Little League games (like the LLWS)....although I draw the line at softball. Field of Dreams, Major League, Bull Durham, Bang the Drum Slowly, The Rookie....I always loved reading about baseball growing up (especially Roberto Clemente), played Strat-o-Matic with the kids in our neighborhood, traded baseball cards (I invested a lot into 50 Hensley Bam Bam Meulens rookie cards, haha), played wiffle ball and tennis/garage ball and stick ball and nerf ball. When I was in high school, and this was the 80's, I'd always look forward to the box scores (California/Seattle games) weren't included...and compute all the White Sox batting and pitching averages. I subscribed to the Sporting News back then. I worked for two years in minor league baseball with the Pirates in the Sally League and will always treasure those memories...things like see Vladimir Guerrero with the most amazing throw from RF to 3B to catch a runner jogging into the base, helping Jermaine Dye call his relatives from our trailer or hanging out with an 18 year old Andruw Jones. Or going to McDonald's and having to help explain to Jose Guillen how to order a hamburger. debating the old school vs the new school thought process of players like each other. Ty Cobb, rep is he would kill the other player, if that what it takes to win a game. how bout Pete Rose, i can't remember, did he have the same mentality?? now is there anyone in this generation that has that same mentality?? baseball a most therapeutic way to loose one self for a couple of hours.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 03:25 AM) I would agree with LDF and disagree with your premise a little. Being a fan of baseball, I love going to a game and enjoying the experience. Seeing a well played game out in the sun, is the reward itself. I love the game of baseball. The other side is being a White Sox fan. That is the point you are making and all of the points are valid. but to me it's secondary to the love of baseball. I can and do enjoy a game even if the Sox lose. not if they made some bone head moves to loose it. but it is not the end of the world. tomorrow will have another game to get even. going to a game and for me relaxing ..... if you are with your family, then enjoy the family time.
  10. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 06:10 AM) Stop living in the past. The current Sox organization is brilliant. The core of the team is locked up in team friendly contracts going forward. Rick Hahn isn't just smart, he's brilliant. It was Kenny Williams who continually sold his soul trying to "win now". some of what he said still holds true. but i am with you, under a new captain so to speak, the team has a lot to look forward to. but the past is still there.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 04:45 AM) Not optimistic, but they have to give him a certain amount of starts. The dream of tradeability is unlikely, so I'll settle for semi-competence. i think the sox are hoping for someone who can eat innings and give the team a 50/50 chance of winning. if he can pitch like last yr, with the offense and defense he is bound to have added, what 5+ move victories. i honestly think that no one wants to be evil and wish the worst for him.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 12:38 AM) To bad we don't have a second round pick too bad the sox don't have any comp picks. i am seeing 3 players i would take in a heart beat.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 12:27 AM) Insurance isn't cheap, because so many injuries happen. so either way, the team is covered. here is another question. if Danks retires, b/c of past injury, the ins company needs to cover it.
  14. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) I love Ted Williams personality, my favorite ball player of all time Here is a video of both their swings: Ted Williams Kyle Tucker nice find....
  15. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 12:17 AM) Kiley McDaniel had him as the 26th best prospect in the draft most other mocks has him in the top of the 2nd round and climbing. i guess he is having a very good yr. i like it. another player to keep an eye on. see how this will shake up the order. many thanks.
  16. to me, sports is a game that takes or allow the fan to let the mind wander freely. concertinaing on the game, who is up and the score. it also allows the fan to be a wanna be coach for the plays. it is a mental exercise in that doesn't cause any harm. now following everything about the logistic of your team, baseball and hockey, seeing the development of the future tomorrow players, again it is a mental exercise, and the enjoyment it brings is the reward. but that is how i look at it. then again i am kinda of obsessive on things.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 11:22 PM) Which is the risk for any of these long deal. Take the Royals deal with Ventura. On paper it is steal. If he blows out his elbow tomorrow, the Royals are out of luck. question, the team is or should they be covered by the insurance company??
  18. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) Greg Pickett is a 1B in the majors yeah i kinda of thought of that, but i was wondering if anyone else is hearing anything more??? if he is moving into the first rnd, why?? i mean i know he has power written all over, with a nice avg....
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 10:59 PM) Ryan Sweeney? I'm joking. Not 100% sure about the Splendid Splinter (hopefully not his personality, either), but a very picturesque swing for a high school kid. Nice frame and projectability. he gain 15-20 this yr..... he needed it, but i wonder if he is hitting the ball harder. i am sure, he is still louse and his swing is fluid. but i am envisioning Bryce Harper power.... ok, maybe not. i am getting too excited.
  20. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 09:58 PM) Frankie Montas becomes a late-inning reliever in the playoffs. if not sooner then that.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) When I first joined the chisox.com/mlb messageboards, there was this guy (colonel sat 46) who always wrote about or posted the names of Sox players from the 1950's, 60's and 70's, even though they weren't necessarily relevant or germane to the conversations of a decade ago. I appreciated hearing them and looked up all of them to discover more about my favorite team and its history during that time. I didn't really begin to follow the team until about 1979 (the reasons I became a fan were that Claudell Washington was the first MLB player to respond by autographing a baseball card I sent to 35th and Shields, and my FAVORITE Uncle Frank was a blue collar/working class White Sox fanatic.....he worked for the Dubuque Iowa (hams and meats) Packing Company...and my other uncle I wasn't quite as fond of, and maybe nor was my mother...loved the Cubs). So I kind of inherited a fandom that had been a barren wasteland from 1959 until 1983. At any rate, it's my way of bringing up sometimes the obscure players of my youth, the 70's and mostly 80's and 90's....for the posters on the internet who are in their teens and twenties. Maybe 98% of the people will ignore it, but that's not the point, either. Maybe it will annoy or irritate someone. Not my intention...either. At any rate, Colsat46 was very close "online friends" with ncorgbl, who was the greatest internet bully in the history of the messageboards and the reason I eventually migrated away from chisox.com anarchy to wsi and then finally to soxtalk. I was very sad to hear that he passed away at some point around that time. Maybe in his memory, I took it upon myself to do the same type of thing with some of my posting style as he did with his, while maintaining my own sense of style. Maybe it's pointless and young people today only care about what's right in front of them, the future and what happened within their memory or perhaps lifetime. for me, it is all good, those names are from my past of being a sox fan. psst, did you know ....... sox b-ball in a couple more days ...
  22. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) I think he's the guy I want at this point. i had some ideas of who i wanted, taking in consideration that if it was college rt, that player maybe ready in a 1 1/2 yrs. but now.... maybe taking into consideration, what may happen to the parent club. i may have to revisit the BPA and look at Aikens.
  23. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) To those concerned about his frame, Kyle Tucker is now at 190lbs, he's still at 6'4. Similar body to a young Kris Bryant and my god... does he swing like Ted Williams. Plant HS Kyle Tucker 3/7/2015: Kyle Tucker (Plant HS, FL) Home Run: Kyle Tucker, OF, Plant HS, FL: the pro's are saying, if i remember correctly, a ted williams, ken griffey jr and i can't think of the 3 player, kind of swing. 170 lbs to 190 lbs.... a lot of natural weight gain for a hs'er, and i am sure a lot of it is also muscles.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Nicely done, albeit a day late and dollar short in its timeliness, lol. Beautiful to watch, yes...engaging/captivating....it falls short. Aspires to be great, sure. Is it entertaining? In stretches, but the plot just wasn't so simple and concise as Gravity (convoluted would be a charitable word), which, no matter your feelings on Clooney or Sandra Bullock, was MUCH more riveting and interesting as far as a memorable/enjoyable theatre going experience. well i appreciate your opinion as well. but for me, i just took it as entertainment value, as i said, the ending was not too thought out, or maybe it was. either way, how was it received in the area you live.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 06:20 PM) Pretty much all of it. McConaunghey sucked (perhaps it's just me being tired of his one-note acting. It was an extended Lincoln car commercial character). The story was far too convoluted with little explanation (even theoretical or make-em-up). They didn't really set up the story enough for me to be engaged about why it was necessary for them to leave (minor gripe I guess). You sorta just get plopped into this story and expect to be all emotionally connected from the get go. The robots...Jesus, how'd they get past the storyboard? Michael Cane looked the exact same despite being like 65-70 and aging 23 years. Casey Affleck tried to keep his wife and kids from being checked out/helped? He just suddenly became a bad guy? Why? And then it ended very quickly. They didn't really explain why being in orbit around the planet was different from being on the surface of the planet. Matt Damon popping up 2 hours in took me out of the movie. The ending just seemed to be a "well, we're confused as s*** and nearly 3 hours in so....time travel!" And the killer - the whole f***ing movie was about Cooper and his daughter reuniting and then when they finally did it lasted 5 seconds and she told him to go away because her kids were there. WTF? edit: oh, and plan B was was stupid and made no sense because they sent ONE WOMAN TO REPOPULATE THE NEW PLANET. I mean just the whole thing from the get go didn't work. It looked cool, that's about the only thing it had going for it. thanks i appreciate your opinion.
