QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) Right, we all know this, the question is about how much they consider "significant" money. Is $20M all they will eat? Or are they willing to eat half the contract? It's such a massive difference in value that until we find out, it's hard to gauge what a return might be if we don't know the lengths to which they are willing to contribute money. what I was implying and this is my fault, even if the dodgers clear up 1 outfield position, then still need to address the other.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) WTFingF? wrong way of writing it, the writer is on too much hash. I am going to correct that and put it in green/. thanks for catching my mistake.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) Encarnacion played only 4 games outside of 1b/DH all last year. fwiw, I also believe he can play the outfield. but I wouldn't trust him there.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) In that case, absolutely no one here should want Matt Kemp. As a CF, he's worth about $12M a year. He's getting paid $22M a year. If $40M and John Danks is out of the question, then Hahn should just hang up the phone because Matt Kemp, in CF, would have to come with about $65M for it to make sense for us, especially since we have a much better CF. the dodgers need to clear up to two outfield positions. they have some heavy contracts the they will need to eat some salary.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) Toronto is talking about meeting with Pablo Sandoval and Russell Martin. I'm not sure how much their hurting to move salary at this point. that is what I am talking about. they got Mark B at what 17 mil, Edwin at 10+ and they are going to need some replacement players, how bout pitching. the sox could come in like they might with the dodgers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) That tweet from Phil Rogers may not have any information in it more than anyone else in this thread - good chance he's just speculating exactly as was done here. thank for the input either way, it was a great way to talk about sox baseball.

Don't Overlook the Job Hahn's Doing on the South Side

yous guys know way more about the stats than I, but I truly hope his bat comes around. it is still early for him to get better, but ....... -
this news of the dodgers willing to absorb salary and a trade for Danks for 1 or there of"ers kind of threw me for a loop. I never thought that will be done. I was hoping for a dodger prospect to be thrown in to sweeten the deal.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 07:53 PM) I think I'm starting to jump on the wagon here after some time to think more about the idea. A younger and cheaper CarGo could be a better alternative to what the Dodgers have to offer. He has enough pop ( though not necessarily ideal) to bat fourth behind Abreu and I like the idea of having a guy with some speed to get the line moving again after Abreu clears the bases with a HR. I just don't know. everybody has an opinion and I will respect that. but..... I am not excited about it. if we were going to go for someone, why not Edwin Encarnacion from tor. get a window to redo his contract. tor is hurting with salary, even if they were bid on some players. yeah there salary is what 25+ mil right about now. but I was tossing that out there.

ref the dodgers. I always like Crawford. plus less yrs than Kemp. but I really have some opposition to Kemp, esp if he really don't want to play cf.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) It's not worth being worried about right now. It's a concern and he'll need to show improvement, but suggesting a positional change at this point in his career is just silly. It'd be like suggesting Montas or Danish move to the bullpen because they don't have the requisite secondary pitch at this point in their careers. There's no need to get snippy. You've continually harped on Anderson's defense and the response has always been "he needs more time." You can't make a conclusion that a guy is unfit for a position after a year and a half of professional experience. IF a positional change does come about, it's going to be to the outfield. He's struggled with fielding and making throws across the infield, but never lateral range or quickness in the field. Knowing that, moving him to 3B, where the throw is longer and the balls come in faster, would be an unmitigated disaster. and look at the other post where you said the same thing, however look on top of that page, I wrote that others said is will come in time like a blank page. it is just simple conversing and talking. I am not preaching or anything. it is conversation and that is what this forum is about.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) I don't think he was trying to be personal, just pointing out it shouldn't be a huge worry just yet. Take a deep breath. ok as far as I am concerned. its over.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) I wouldn't expect the sox to just give him a "turn your head and cough" physical. Everyone knows he has had back problems, I'm sure Herm and staff know what to look for. Plus, I'm pretty sure Konerkos issues were with a degenerative hip, not back. Given that Konerkos game isn't exactly based on speed, they were able to deal with whatever came their way. either way, as you said, they the sox have plenty of medical people on hand to give a through check.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) His opinion on the defense is going to be the same as anybody else's - he needs time. He has the tools to do so, but he needs more reps. Looking into his defense when he just barely cracked the AA lineup is silly. It's something he needs to improve, but you really don't need to worry about at this point in time. what is your problem today.... or with me. you mean I can't ask any question with your ok. ....... DAVERS,

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 06:14 PM) Wonder if the Sox are involved to try and drive the price up for the Tiggers. that will be soooo sweet. sort of a machiavellian tactic.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) As I said in the other thread, don't worry about his defense. i am not worrying but conversing. as i wrote in a post that others said about his defense and i will accept it. just plain simple conversation on what i was looking at.

bad backs, bulging disk, no freaking way i would trade into that situation. didn't the sox have a pitcher who had a bad back / disk problem? Dustin Hermanson (sp). that kind of recurring problem can shorten a career quickly.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) I disagree, 2015 is a rebuilding year. The reason that the 2015 control was important to Beane was to be able to replenish the roster more quickly. They lose Lester and Hammel out of their starting rotation, their 2B, their SS, their LF and their UTL IF and have traded away all of their viable replacements at those positions. Now they are looking to trade Kazmir and Samardzjia to fill in the gaps and remain competitive. With their young pitchers coming back from some major injuries it is tough to see how they will be in contention. his type of maneuvering reminds me of the blackhawks. just put enuf talent so the fans is seeing that you are doing something. he, Beane will gut out the team of major young talent, then when needing a few pieces supplantment it by trading for them.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) I don't think the Dodgers are too desperate for any more outfield help at the moment...they're more interested in filling in the back end of the starting rotation, bullpen, 3B and catcher. I disagree b/c they, the dodgers need to empty some of that bottleneck in the outfield for their own prospects coming up, esp 1 in particular.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24793247 Interesting that Jacob May was mentioned as pretty much a surefire Top 10 prospect. That's newsworthy, if someone in the organization views May that highly. unless they are doing spinning it to make the excitement all the more. his lack of hitting is what is holding me back. -
Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 04:38 AM) Im not so sure a 33 year old Alexei with two years of control is worth a 24 year old Wheeler with 5 years of control. Alexei is passing his prime while Wheeler has his ahead of him still. I think Alexei is a bit over valued as fans sometimes do all this is really dependent on the buyers and sellers and what is being asked for in the value of the rtn. as the other article said, the mets can go both ways. visit both Chicago teams and play them off each other. the sCrubs has a replacement ready while the sox, in essence doesn't. but if you take a look it at another way, they are coming to the sox with hat in hand asking if the sox would be willing to trade, not the other way around. so yes, the sox can play a little hard ball, esp when there is 3 maybe 4 teams needing a SS. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 04:11 AM) Lol, he doesn't have to. Oakland already has one opening in the starting rotation, Beane is not dumb enough to create a second. I don't think Beane traded Addison Russell for Shark only to turn around six months later and trade Shark for possibly less. Beane is much smarter than that. Just because a few Sox fans want the Sox to trade for Shark doesn't mean Beane wants to trade him. Yup, sums it up. Thank you sir, I agree. I do, only for 1 reason, that is if he really thought he had a chance for a world series ring or to make it to the world series.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) Anderson COULD eventually end up at 3B, but his offensive game best profiles at 2B or CF, with LF as the 3rd option. You'd probably pick 3B number four simply because his range and athleticism would be wasted a bit there, compared to other positions. For example, Joe Crede and Robin Ventura had very good instincts and first step quickness/reaction time, but neither had what you'd call great range in the sense they could play the middle of the infield, either 2B/SS. a good reference and analogy, I pick 3b b/c I wasn't sure if it was his range or the range of the position that was causing him the problems. 3b like 1b doesn't need the range of a ss or 2b. I wasn't sure if he was capable of handling the outfield positions. as many have stated he was / is a raw product and is now coming into his own. I take that with his offensive numbers as well. it like the ole cliché, he is a blank paper with lots of talent.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 03:31 AM) I remember not so long ago when they were trying to dump Manny, Pierre and Andruw Jones. Seems they find themselves in a similar situation with "bad" contracts for Ethier and Crawford, and then the continued presence of Kemp or dealing him seems to be the biggest single offseason issue to be revealed. It doesn't feel like Kemp and Puig can co-exist together forever without combusting again. I totally forgot about that. interesting turn. I remember one of the writers out of LA was mentioning that either Crawford or Ethier was going with Kemp being hands off. that was b/c he started to play and hit again. maybe things has change.
