  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 02:19 AM) Well in this case, when the #13 overall prospect in all of baseball is on the same team and plays the same position as Anderson, it's obvious they're gonna play him (Seager) at SS most/some of the time. Had either of the 2 been on a different team things would probably be different. what you are saying is based on pure logic. however I remember many yrs ago, it was agree that players would be rotated around. to avoid managers playing favorites or team friendly management preference.
  2. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 06:19 PM) Just my opinion but I feel Ravelo is being way under rated considering his 2014 season, he's just 22 and going to start 2015 at Charlotte. and the beauty part is as I always am saying, everyone is right. it is great to get a different point of view with an explanation.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) I don't think his bat is good enough to warrant the cost and a roster spot over someone like Andy Wilkins. I just don't see him as a fit, I believe he was Abreu's backup in Cuba, and doesn't really have the big bat profile of a lot of the other players that are being discussed. He is a guy that you would take a chance on with a minor league deal, but not throw a large signing bonus at. those players were discuss another thread. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...92536&st=75 bottom line, and enticing package but I am questioning his hit tools.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) I don't agree with your premise that there are three holes in the rotation. I feel that we are sitting pretty good with four spots with Sale, Q, Noesi, and the Danks/Rodon spot. If Danks can get back to pitching as he did in the first half of the season than the Sox are sitting in a pretty good position. I would like to sign a guy to a short term deal to bridge the gap to Rodon and serve as insurance in case Danks does not improve. Beck and Bassit will likely be ready to crack the rotation mid-summer and if EJ recovers he will be ready before that, no reason to spend money to block them at this point. Payroll space this season needs to be used to improve the lineup and team defense which will help to boost the rotation as well. I agree, sign players who needs a yr or 2 to bring up their value. let the young talent that the sox have to develop without rushing them. the wildcard will be Rodon on 2 thngs, what was the handshake deal that Hahn and his agent have. also how he does in spring training.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) My view on the rotation is to add the best RHP you can this offseason (within reason) and basically have Danks, Noesi, & Rodon compete for two spots during Spring Training. In a perfect world, all three guys look great and Rodon can spend April in Charlotte "working on things", which would give Danks and Noesi another month to be evaluated. If Rodon blows them out of the water, then I'm fine with the loser being forced into the bullpen to start the season. What I don't want is to sign a some scrap heap starter that basically is filler until Rodon is ready. Strengthen the top three spots of the rotation by adding a good RHP or at least one with the potential to be like Masterson. Once comes Rodon comes up, I don't want more than one of Noesi or Danks in the rotation or the team will struggle to be competitive IMO. Noesi was on someone scrap when the sox claimed him. I am not trying to argue this, but to point out, the sox pitching depth is not so deep. the sox still can find gems on the waiver list and the non tender list. back that up with some fa signing and the sox can pull it off. the biggest problem I am hoping that the sox not to fall in is being complacent like last yr. not getting more options.
  6. interesting reading on players who may be non tendered. from pit - davis and snider http://cheapseatanalytics.com/pirates-offs...der-candidates/ I am wondering who else may be avail
  7. a question about the NHL salary cap. if a player does not have a NTC, no one pick him up on waivers and has more yrs on his contract, can the team bury him and his salary in the minors? I am in the opinion that is what they should do with Bryan Bickell and his rat lazy arse. 4 mil a yr and he plays like shiiite.
  8. For Chilihead90, and Eminor3rd or anyone else, pls explain how he is overrated? For his hitting, 3 yrs at 20+ hrs a yr, hitting avg an avg of 260+, fielding avg of 970. but the rest of the advance stats I do not know. so how are you grading him, unless it is your own opinion. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...eyo01-bat.shtml I may be wrong in my math.
  9. is there an agreement that the players get rotated around in their position?

  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) Why not? Rodon, Bassitt, and Beck all pencil in as starting 2014 at Charlotte. Rodon - a lot been said about not rushing him now you have in pencil in? Bassitt - 1 of my favorite players. plenty been said he is better or would be better in the pen. Beck - let see how he does in spring. again I am not going to assume anything. I would hope for options, viable options.
  12. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) Maybe Cespedes prefers to work on his defense at the DH position... nah I have outlandish hope for Tomas playing there.
  13. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) That's the million dollar question. Johnson lost his control and velocity so couple that with a straight fastball and erratic breaking pitches to begin with and you have the recipe for disaster. I don't have an explanation outside of what been proposed already. IMO, I would try him out in the pen for a bit in ST and see what happens. Maybe his arm just doesn't have the endurance necessary to be a starter. very good point.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) Unless it was on a minor league deal, I am not interested. That is two catastrophic injuries he is trying to recover from, and who knows how one is going to affect the other. I want no part of him as a part of the team that we would be counting on. you are right, that is the underlining point. hearing about it 1 thing, reading it on black and white, make me think twice.

Rios - been there, done that. no thanks.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) He "doesn't want to work on his defense." My gawd. Is that true? If so, shows how lazy the modern rich ballplayer can be. I'd want no part of a bum like that if that line is true. I really don't believe that to be the case. I notice that when he was traded and talk of the contract began. he stated from the beginning that will test the market. I believe I made a post that maybe he wants to come to Chicago and play with Jose A. so the timelne is there. I wish I could remember the post. maybe its in the Cuban post. ahh who care. I still be in my Chicago comment being true.
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) Sox have 2 holes in the rotation, not 3. Noesi and/or Danks can handle the #5 position. Noesi did it admirably last season I'd go after a mid-tier pitcher who appears to be a ground ball pitcher like McCarthy. After this year, the price of relief pitchers is going to be so high that I wish the Sox had some to deal. I think Carroll can be a good reliever. Sign 1 but be careful. call me a skeptic, I don't like the idea of having no one behind to back up and / or start. have a options available that can help. the system is not ready to call someone up and start. the sox should not ASSUME any 1 pitcher is ready to step up. come spring that might be a different opinion.
  18. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) Yeah definitely agreeing with. Just trying to be funny with the crazy examples. Guess it didn't work lol. I am truly sorry.
  19. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) No to Floyd. At this point, Chris Bassit will have a higher ceiling and floor as the 5th starter. I am in total agreement with you. I am in the thinking of having more options at a money savings for the "in case" scenario.
  20. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 02:18 AM) Anderson 1/2 and caught stealing. Basto 0/0 with a walk. re: Anderson, did you notice that the last 2 games he was being use as a DH only? I hope that he can get more rep at ss to work on his defense.

csn Chicago had a interesting article of money being avail for free agent spending. there is another sort of way that they gage additional money. I was kind of lost, nevertheless it was nice reading. I am not posting the list. my browser was taking a hit. maybe it is on my computer.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) Floyd is a candidate for a minor league deal, IMO. He had TJ that didn't "take," and was bleeding internally in his elbow by the end of his first start back. I just don't see any way I'd guarantee any number of millions to him until he proves his arm will hold together. I totally agree with you, but let me asked, will other team see the same. I think some other team will give him a contract. here is another question, would Floyd consider coming back to chi??
  23. QUOTE (shoeless_joe21 @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) He was agreeing with you... obviously I didn't that it that way. ........ my bad.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ May 22, 2014 -> 05:01 AM) my list based on my wishful thinking. 1. Micah Johnson - what is there not to like 2. Tyler Danish - improving fast 3. Trey Michalczewski - continues to shine 4. Carlos Sanchez - this is based on my guess and what the stats says 5. Tim Anderson - hitting improving, defense ??? 6. Francellis Montas - i like his makeup 7. Brad Goldberg - same as #6, may be the 2 or 3 player to the majors 8. Matt Davidson - at this time, needs head screw on right 9. Courtney Hawkins - lets see how this yr develops 10. Andrew Mitchell - came out of no where to shine Cleuluis Rondon + Kevin Vance + Rangel Ravelo are too close to call. I am hoping that this might be a good chance to redo the end of the yr top 10 prospect that someone started last yr. 1. Micah Johnson >>>> C. Rodon 2. Tyler Danish >>>>> T. Anderson 3. Trey Michalczewski > F Montas 4. Carlos Sanchez >>> M. Johnson 5. Tim Anderson >>>> C Hawkins 6. Francellis Montas >> T Danish 7. Brad Goldberg >>> S, Adams 8. Matt Davidson >>> C. Sanchez 9. Courtney Hawkins > N. Sanburn 10. Andrew Mitchell >> Bassitt (my 2nd favorite) worth noting. Adolfo, Ravelo, Michalczewski
  25. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) This. There HAS to be some explanation. Something going on in his life, injury, amnesia, sudden fear of cowhide, the Monstars stole his talent?? People don't just suddenly become less talented at something they've been very good at their entire lives at the age of 25. If it wasn't an injury then I can only hope he bounces back this spring from whatever happened. I was really trying real hard not to respond but ....... oh well what is your point that is different than mine????? are you answering my post with the same statement ????? trying at an attempt at humor?????? which failed if it was pssst (use different color font)
