QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) If it goes to the bathroom just clean it? In all sincerity though, puppies don't want to eliminate in their spaces. We have a 4 month old puppy now and outside of the first night, it has only gone to the bathroom in it's kennel or playpen twice, and only one of those times was in the evening. It'll be fine. its a pup. it does these things. take the pup out stop the water drinking at 8 pm.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) But just from a baseball perspective...I would say that a person with a steroid suspension in their background is more likely than the average player to disappoint, either by injury, additional suspension, or by simply falling off in their production level as they get farther from the point when they were abusing. this part I will give way to others who are smarter than I. I really have to go to work. I will follow this at work I had fun peace.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Ozzie was a POS in his last year with the Sox, essentially talking contract with the Marlins while still under contract with the Sox. That wasn't a smear campaign whatsoever, that was the White Sox publicizing how big of a jerk Ozzie had become. and I am not going to disagree. however others might think differently.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:28 PM) I'm so glad I don't care about PEDs this much. What a stressful thing to have to want your team to NOT acquire players that will help it win. oh cmon now, this is baseball at its best. discussing the value of certain players. this is fun.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) For a first offense? I'd probably oppose that, but throw in a clear coverup like Melky Cabrera attempted and now I'm iffier. And in either case, no I would not sign them at market rate, I'd treat them like a pitcher with a partially torn elbow ligament. Maybe you get lucky but real good chance their performance falls off by a lot at some point, and who knows what else they might do to get around it. you see this is the glass half full and half empty. no one will have a good enuf penalty let alone if the player finds atonement. he worked hard to deceived the system. it is the system that gave him the penalty. he paid for his actions. where we like it or not.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) Melky Cabrera, who paid $10 grand to have a fake website established to try to cover up that he'd been juicing by saying "oh it came from this place", didn't know it was illegal. Oh, and he also just happened to be doing it during a contract year. Riiiiiiiight. you do have a very good counter. is another question, not for you, rhetorical question. why did Melky work so hard to circumvent the situation in what he didn't know was illegal.

I am just discussing in how long does a player have to pay for their actions. but the above comment, would you be oppose to them being banned?

QUOTE (venom4789 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 12:53 AM) I always wondered why teams would do that sometimes when a player left. My old man would say that teams did it in case a player they didnt resign or they traded ended up playing very well for their new team, that way it would look more like he had to go. Also if the trade worked out well for the team they looked even better. Personally i always try to see it as i only worry about the players on the team, but then again i dont play for the sox or manage them. I only watch them on tv and occasionally pretend how i would run the team and easily win the world series yearly. throwing out the trash so to speak. I am glad JR took a stance and told the sox management not to do that. I can't remember the date, but he did it after he came back to hit him. they kind of went against that rule with ozzie.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) Would you hire Pete Rose as a coach today? the point is, they both paid for their actions. now with rose there was a long rule against betting on baseball. the PED was basically new. yeah there is a gray line with PED, but players are playing dumb, with the typically children excuse, "I didn't know it was illegal"

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) By fielding percentage, Royce Clayton is a god. and 1 of the biggest pricks on the team worst than Belle. in the 90's I was talking to a sox player and he was telling me of the 2 players.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 06:52 AM) Ah geeze you know if the Sox sign Melkie player hate the game don't hate the player. The CBA outlines drug suspensions. If you think 50 games is too little of a punishment, then write Bud Selig, or whoever is they chose to replace him. did he or did he not pay for his actions. I am saying by the league standards. he is another analogy, did Pete Rose pay for his actions or did he not? is there a difference in the 2 examples?

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 11:28 PM) the type of hitter, power hitter that Davidson is, is the kind of power hitters that was sought after. low avg hitter, high strike out, but will hit many hrs. on the flipside, his stats coming from the PCL was much better. so here is the real question, which Davidson are the sox going to see in spring the 1 that did well in PCL or the 1 that bomb with the sox minor league?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) Marcus Stroman also comes to mind...Roy Oswalt. Pedro Martinez. Gio Gonzalez. you are correct. I forgot those names.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 05:36 AM) NOPE. Flowers veteran like Soto/Ross or possibly Phegley K. Smith Nieto I truly believe in how the sox brass will identify the priority of their needs. I see the sox going internal with Phegley or thru a trade. if 1 of the other posters who is very good with the advance stats, maybe they can answer this. I believe Flowers had a better 2 half than he did in the first half. does anyone have a guess why if this is true?

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) He had a variety of injuries all through 2014 season. you are correct, I would like to add. he had 1 injury since early june, that never healed. He played thru it for the season. now that he is in school, the injury is healing. I believe he also played in the future games. well if I am wrong, someone will correct me. Hahn was saying that he liked what MJ did and how he played with the injury, even not going on the disable list when he had a chance too.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 03:15 AM) s*** is he nasty! That's a kid that could fast track to the majors as a reliever/closer. I agree, here is a question, so the sox draft him. b/c of his height, he reminds me of billy wagner.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 06:53 PM) One was playing his first full season in A ball and extremely young. The other was in AAA. Guys don't regularly have those type of numbers in AAA and regain their form. I'd have more faith if there was some sort of underlying issue and Sox had some form of track record at helping hitters with his issues. I agree he has some tools but he's lousy defensively, strikes out a lot and does not appear to be capable of hitting for much of an average, nor does he appear to be much of a OBP guy. In general, I find it extremely unlikely that he will provide anything but negative value. the type of hitter, power hitter that Davidson is, is the kind of power hitters that was sought after. low avg hitter, high strike out, but will hit many hrs.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) I am interested too, but I think we saw some of that in 2012. The Sox went out and got Youkilis, Liriano, and Myers for what looked like virtually nothing at the time. Knowing how the Twins work their magic, Escobar naturally turned into a good looking player. Guys who had lower value than normal and looked like potential boom players. #2 ~ I think with an upgraded farm system, you may see better players brought in, but I don't think he's going to be a guy who will be too willing to overpay. In some situations though, you do have to. Liriano was a guy I did want the Sox to keep after 2012 as I though he could be good with the Sox like he was with the Pirates, but #1. I don't think his style really meshed well with Cooper's. 1. interesting thought. 2. and with a better larger minor league, the sox may even use that surplus as trade material for missing pieces.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) Frankly, I wouldn't write-off moving Montas or Danish for that matter. I could imagine many scenarios where it makes sense. Especially if we're the '15/'16 playoff hopes become imminent. Both guys had very impressive years but definitely have their warts. Like others have said, it wouldn't hurt to strike while the iron is hottest. While I do believe, we will be on the verge of competing very soon, one of the more interesting aspects of the team is going to be how Hahn handles our farm system in these "playoff" years. Ever since Hahn took over the team hasn't been a playoff team but once we are I am sure we will see some moves reminiscent of the KW era. I am not saying that's a good or bad thing but it seems people have locked Hahn in as the guy to save the minor leagues and keep the young guys around while Kenny is the devil who traded away all of our valuable prospects. It's far too early to make that judgement. Hahn was very much a part of the acquisitions taking place during the KW era and we'll surely see him stray from his, to this point, conservative nature. The interesting part will be the extent to which strays. the product of cost of diminishing return or the cost of doing business. remember 1 important thing. KW got and maneuvered and help get that championship ring. the state of the minor league needs to be rebuilt.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) Agreed. Taking Danks and sending money with Ethier would negate a nice size portion of the potential savings as far as the Dodgers are concerned. Assuming they really do want to shed 50M off of next years payroll. On the flip side they do have Hanley and Uribe's salaries coming off the books so if they nickel and dime here and there it can happen. So, instead the Sox send Alexei and Gillaspie to LA for Ethier and a low level prospect. Then the Sox put Semien at 3B, sign Hanley to play SS, sign Melky to play LF with Ethier being the 4th OF/ DH. The rest of the money goes into the bullpen and we all hold hands while skipping down the street together into the 2015 playoffs. the dodgers need to create room in the outfield next season.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 05:09 PM) I'm excited about Montas. That said, I wouldn't mind trading him at the crest of his hype. I'm not saying SHOP him, but if we want to get in on some star-level guy on the trade market, I'd love to dangle Montas as a centerpiece. Reasons: 1. Velocity doesn't go anywhere but down. Guys with great velo and poor command tend to quickly turn into guys with ok velo and poor command. Scouting report sounds eerily similar to Ubaldo. 2. Selling high on him would cap a great return for Peavy. This guy was a distant #2 piece that has turned into what is currently a very valuable asset. 3. Pitchers get hurt, especialyl when they throw 80-grade gas. Risky to keep this asset, less risky to give it to someone else in exchange for the bird in the hand. right now Montas is potential unproven. I think he should have a couple of seasons under his belt to max the rtn.
