Sox Rankings in Baseball America Top 20s For Every League
LDF replied to winninguglyin83's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) As a Baseball America subscriber, I received the copy with the lists of the Top 20 prospects in every minor league. This is the way it shook out for the White Sox. INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE: Micah Johnson 14th. Only Sox player. Nothing for Sanchez. Top 5 -- Polanco, Betts, Lindor, Franco, Souza. SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Micah Johnson 16th. Only Sox player. Top 5 -- Bryant, Russell, Seager, Stephenson, Edwards. CAROLINA LEAGUE: Tim Anderson 8th; Courtney Hawkins 9th; Tyler Danish 12th, Frank Montas 14th. Top 5 -- Gallo, Alfaro, Peraza, Mondesi, Manaea. SALLY LEAGUE: Sox shut out. Top 5 -- Giolito, Crawford, Lopez, Severino, McGuire. PIONEER LEAGUE: Sox shutout. Top 5 -- Aguino, Wall, DeLeon, Blandino, O'Hearn. ARIZONA LEAGUE: Spencer Adams 5th. Top 5 -- Jackson, Holmes, Bradley, Sheffeld and Adams. Carlos Rodon did not make any of the lists because he did not play long enough in any league. He was listed in another story in the front of the magazine of prominent guys who were not on any league lists. Those players included: Mark Appel, Dylan Bundy, Nick Burdi, Byron Buxton, Rusney Castillo, Brandon Finnegan, Kyle Freeland, Marco Gonzales, Nick Howard, Jorge Soler and Kyle Zimmer. oh man, this is exciting for me. that is why I was saying about the ratings that the so-called professional have the system at. I will admit that I do not know too much about the Pioneer, Arz and Sally league prospects. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 10:24 PM) This is a Boston fan doing some day dreaming and there's nothing wrong with it but the fan forgot one thing. The Dodgers probably have more to offer with Pederson, Seager, Urias etc. If the Sox were to trade Sale, I would hope it was with the Dodgers. I am with you, now its dodgers and for me the yanks and bos who has prospects I would love to see in a sox uniform. next yr, Tor, cincy and pit. oops I forgot. stl has a nice collections of prospects.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) I am saying that if the market had more demand (Meaning if the Red Sox, Dodgers and Yankees didn't have first basemen.) there would be no way he plays in Chicago. If I remember correctly, the final three teams bidding Abreu were the Sox, Houston and Colorado. and you too are correct as STR. I believe the sox were is bidding war with other teams, the sox would almost always loose. -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 10:43 PM) My point to Joshua in all this is he's talking like Heyward is old and wont improve but yet the Sox took a chance on a player with no MLB experience and 2.5 years older. Heyward has shown what he is capable of and at only 25 there's no reason to write him off. That is just trolling. no, it is just his opinion and you and Joshua has a point and believe me when I say this a valid opinion. I would never have known about Heyward unless I read this thread. -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) Who? there was a thread on the draft and I posted it there so any can see it. however if my memory didn't fail me, 1a. a huge surprise here Chase Valot I was expecting him 2-3 rnd 2 . Garcia 3. Zagunis and Reetz. my problem here was Zagunis, didn't the sox drafted his brother? 4. Gushue my 2 favorites I believe were Valot and Gushue. this doesn't include other players of interest.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) Abreu was more of a pressing need, and he is the type of player that the Sox would normally not be able to get. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) This has to be the lamest excuse ever. Now I know you're trolling. The Sox need a middle of the order lefty bat, better defense in RF and are looking for core players are in their early to mid twenties, that's Heyward. Its academic. when the sox went to sox out Abreu, the sox was in the beginning of rebuilding. the sox org, esp KW did not know that much about Abreu. it was there that KW call JR after the showcase and raved about him JR trusting KW and his excitement and over bid even to KW surprise. it was during this season and all the other players did the sox org realize they had players to compete. so in essence, if other teams realize how great Abreu was, do you think that the sox would have outbid for his services? -
I was reading a article, I believe it might be on miilb.com and Balt site. this journalist was saying about Balt retooling and first order of business would be signing to A Miller - rp. however it also had a snippet of Miller saying that he is a strong union person and he is going to test the free agent market. he wanted to sign for the most. he and his agent does not believe in giving discounts. so much for signing with the white sox. Edit: 10-6-14 well it is now on mlb trade rumors.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) It really makes no sense to trade Sale. It would be about the players, not the money since he's affordable. The Sox would be figuring Rodon is as good as Sale and could replace him. It's a dumb trade though as the Sox would be shipping out a franchise player for prospects. Weird idea. I would not have a problem trading Rodon. the only reason would be, the sox would have to deal with his agent. his agent would ask for the world. so trade him when he is close to leaving, something like 2-3 yrs before to max out his rtn. on the flip side, it is Rodon and his agent right to ask for the most money and show no loyalty to a ball club nor its fans. this is the point I have to keep reminding myself.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Pokka instantly becomes the Hawks #2 prospect behind Teuvo. Hockey has a top 100 prospects and Pokka came in at #41, Hawks have 3 guys in the top 100 (Teuvo, Pokka and Clendening). Pokka is playing in Rockford this year, and remember he's only 20. I an glad you are correcting me. however, the brass wants him to play in rochford, it is still not a sure thing. they are hoping with Teuvo, he would go there.

wow, It hard to imagine the pitching schedule for the rest of the series. a starter will need to go like 8 innings so some of the pen can rest.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) Brennan is 25 and he's more of a tweener. It's basically Leddy for Pokka. Pokka was Teravainen's teammate when they won gold at WJC. Pokka first needs to come to the usa, he will not unless he is given promises of starting in the nhl, not minor league. I just wish it was draft picks the hawks got. Pokka may not make the team, the hawks have some very solid d-men knocking, yearning for playing time. is he better than Clendening, Johns, Dahlbeck let alone some of the promising college d-man who are making a name for themselves? here is another thought, if Pokka could not crack the Ilse starting lineup of d-man and he wants promises of no minor league time, how does he or for that fact any think he can crack the hawks lineup. I just don't know about him. again, I just wish it was for draft picks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) Seems like a pretty good haul on the surface. Anyone know much about the prospects? for me, it was nothing more than a salary dump.

2014 White Sox MiLB Stats Leaders - Starting Pitchers

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) I'm talking about the pitcher the Sox signed out of Latin America. I really had to do some research on him. the big mystery is why was he on the DL in 2013? he played all of 2014, has he improve on this speed. before the injury, he was 88-91 with his best at 92. he also have a working curve and is trying out the changeup. anything else, maybe some other posters who follow the minor can fill in the holes. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) I live in Missouri so Chicago places aren't going to work lol. I didn't know that sorry.

wsi, wow what a name from the past. the first mass exodus happen the night I registered here. look at the date is signed under my name and you can see the date. wsi had a great mod/admin from cali. I think his name was FarWestSide. a poster who was a construction something became a mod and he started a lot of crap. I took offense and came to a poster defense. it was a natsy fight, something like 2-3 hrs. Jason came on and told us about this site and I first signed up and then many others came over. FWS accuse me of trying to ruin his site. it was the construction guy, who through FWS bought ($$) into the site. I am sure there are still some who were on that site with me. that site was ruined. Hey TEX were you here when we had that huge arguement / fight with the espn white sox forum. If I remembered they had to shut it down to banned us? man I miss Yansy.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 07:25 AM) If you could convince everyone that said reliever would be one of the top 2-3 set up guys (like wade Davis or miller or gregerson) or an elite level closer (87.5% or above conversion rate) then most wouldn't have a problem with it...for a second or third rounder that's not the worst tradeoff in the world. The problem is always this years miller is last years uehara...repeatability/consistency and predictability of future performance. yeah you are right, I didn't structure the response right. but those who responded are pretty set in their opinion and I like convictions. still it was a great discussion.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) This team is in no position to worry more about 5-6 years from now than 1-2 years. excellent post.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 05:41 AM) What do you think about Luis Martinez? I will honestly say that I did not know of him before and since the sox drafted him in the 33 round. 20 going on 21 by all rpts has a nice mix of hitting tools. but those are from the stats I was able to find. the other posters who does the minor league may have more. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 04:26 AM) No No giving up draft choices for relief pitchers, esp middle relievers. if I can't convince anyone on 1-seconder rounder for an establish very good rp or a closer in which the sox really need, I will forgo anymore discussion on this particular subject. all you posters are set with your opinions. I respect that. good job.

2014 White Sox MiLB Stats Leaders - Starting Pitchers

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) It's too early, IMO, to start calling Adams a slot that way. He's 18. What he has is a couple really intriguing pitches, excellent control for his age and level, and the right frame and delivery. I'm high on him, but we'll see. Dykstra and Bucciferro are both strike-throwers, and both get a lot of ground balls, particularly Dykstra. Dykstra is more interesting to me at this point, he could be a back end starter. Bucciferro I'm not convinced will be able to fool enough higher level hitters, though his slider plays above average according to some. He might have a reliever future. Neither are high end prospects, I'd put Dykstra somewhere around 25-35 in the system. Bucciferro more 30-40. with the way the starting 5 sp in the majors are starting to take shape, I would expect to see a turnover in the rp and closer faster. with the starting 5 the sox can add viable sp thru attrition starting off with Adams as the next wave. however I am forgetting some of the exciting pitchers the sox have now on the cusp of making the team. that picture and getting me pretty darn excited. now if the hitting prospect can catch up. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) The problem with doing that is roster size. Especially with a backup catcher and 12 man pitching staff there are only so many match ups you can do with a 25 man roster. For us right now if both Sanchez and Semien can at least be non-terrible contributors, we can rotate those 2 through the IF positions along with Gillaspie (and maybe soon, Micah) and be able to play match ups there pretty well, but Alexei and Abreu aren't likely to be moved for match ups. So we have some ability to do that, but you still need solid regulars. I think I didn't explain this the right way. I was trying to point out, in every situation are the coaches suppose to use advance stats? what happen to the gut feeling that sometimes works.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 01:36 AM) Call me confused. First, our 1st round pick is protected. Second, how is filling a major need by trade going to be more sensible than losing a 2nd round draft pick? We're talking about giving up partially developed prospects or even major league players vs. an unknown commodity years away from contributing. Unless of course you're talking about taking on a big contract that doesn't require much of a return. I agree that filling all our needs in free agency is unrealistic, but all else being equal, I'd much rather use our cash to fill needs than our limited minor league talent. for this discussion only and this is an example. would you be willing to add either David Robertson - closer or Andrew Miller - a nice lh rp that the sox need to make the bullpen better. now that price will be a 1-second rounder. I think the cost factor is getting the final pieces now instead of waiting 4-6 yrs is a good trade off.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 01:52 AM) As for position players I believe the instruction at the minor league level is not very good. They can only produce DH/1B which any organization can do that. I agree and I hope that in the future the coaches will be able to address the concept of hitting. in addition to identify better prospects for the selection in the quality of the drafted players. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 12:33 AM) And we are sitting here with Jose Abreu and hopefully Avi Garcia. The heart of our order should already be power loaded. We have the power component already and we're going to keep going with that. Give me hitters not bellyitchers right now. Balta, pls excuse me but let me add, the sox do have the 2 slugging hitters. now support them with players who can put the ball in play with an occasional home run power, something in the 10-15 range a yr. with that mix, I believe that would give the sox plenty of offense.
