  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) I don't think that's an oxymoron at all. Smart Cubs fan is an oxymoron. Look at Courtney Hawkins. He was a first round draft pick and put up similar numbers to Trayce Thompson at similar ages (save the catastrophe that was 2013). Do you believe his ceiling is higher or lower than Trayce's? Why? made my week
  2. ok, i will play. for me, this was and still is a horrible trade. not for keeping reed, but the rtn of davidson. even if davidson rebounds, the sox overpaid.
  3. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 07:12 AM) In all fairness Cleuluis isn't popping guns at 102 with control. Yay Defense Only A-Ball isn't really a good story...yet. Montas is 6 million dollar Tyler Kolek except he throws harder, has more control, has way better secondary stuff, has logged way more professional innings which makes him way closer to the majors. Way. a great analogy, I just hope he can develop that 3rd pitch and feel comfortable with it .

    2014 Films Thread

so the Judge yesterday. a very good acting movie. every actor held their own in this movie. for me a surprise conclusion, I don't mean the ending. 5 stars for acting 3-4 stars on story
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) You have to remember that we're just seeing the first wave of Latin American signings hit stateside. It's taken a couple years to get going, but we should see regular inflows of talent coming from that channel going forward. That alone will move us up a few ticks in the system rankings, given that we had almost no presence in Latin America for a good chunk of time. you are right, after this wave of players move on up or get to an age where prospects list won't mention them, I would like to see them named. I guess Micker will be the leading prospect for that group.
  6. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 04:37 AM) Maybe Eaton needed a change of scenery, maybe someone talked to him once he was traded, or maybe his ego was bruised by being traded and he is going to do everything possible to make them realize they shouldnt have traded him. I havent looked at his tapes from when he was with them, but when teammates make comments like that you do take them with a grain of salt, but there is at least a little truth behind it. Luckily for us he seems to be fitting in well here and i havent seen him take a play off at all. also lets look at the leadership the sox had last yr. Paulie, Alexei, the emergence of Jose A and I am sure some of the pitchers would seem to have that leadership mentality.
  7. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) I'm saying that he will be back in '15, but potentially he can become tradeable again, even if some money has to go along with him. By Memorial Day, he'll have around $24M remaining on the deal. He may be attractive at $15-18M for that time frame if he's performing well enough. with all due respect, Dank can't be traded with that scenario. the only way it might be done if we accept a huge contract or 2 in rtn.
  8. isn't ceiling based on a subjective point of view. I hear many classified many prospect with this so called ceiling projection. I don't know, I find this description lacking.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) Apparently we are still 50,000 posts away from their total... Hey Balta, wanna talk about the next election for a while? yeah, most of those post were from the majority that got banned or left. we had a great time there before the bullcrap. it was like here when we all move here. talk about the wild west and oh the crap from the north side, rival and other sites. I am still so glad this site is still the best. btw mods and Jason, if yousguys ever let the color scheme and crap get outdated, shoot yourself in the foot and look at wsi.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) I debated posting that article, but finally decided, there was no actual information within it. It is all speculation, from the very first word being "If", all of the way to the end. We don't know that the Sox will support the same expenditures, as we know revenues were down this year. There was less advertising and less fans at the park. We don't know that they will take the money which had been allotted to the farm system and directly place them into the major league payroll. What it to stop that money from going to something else? Maybe it goes to Jeff Keppinger to finish his buyout? Maybe it goes to an upgrade inside the ballpark? Maybe it covers losses from this year? As you read that article just remember, there isn't a single new quote from Rick Hahn, Kenny Williams, and/or Jerry Reinsdorf in there. if you don't mind me adding, we, the fans knew this for how long? anything new info? Hahn has since mention that the sox are a lot closer to competing. so that means the price has risen.
  11. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 07:25 PM) Doesn't he need to add 100 lbs for these bartolo comparisons to make sense a brutal comparison
  12. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) Not at all, I understand ceilings. I get " if everything goes right". The reality is that not everything is going right. When a young player does well, their projected ceiling goes up based on performance does it not? Then why does Trayce still project such a high ceiling when he continues to struggle two levels below the majors? A player that, for now, has stalled out at AA does not project much ceiling to due the stalled developed... for now. I understand Trayce has good tools, but any tool is useless if a person cannot utilize them. for starter, if the system is so lacking, it hold the truth not to throw a 20 lb brick to a drowning person. for lack of other prospects, why change now. however lets look for that needle in the haystack. who was the pitcher who pitch for the sox, i believe he was 29, was he still considered a prospect at, what 28? when does a prospect stop being a prospect?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) Leading questions, of course. There are different ways to be a leader. Some do it by example. Some get up on a soapbox. Some do both. excellent point of view. i am also going to use this link to say.... this was a great trade. the kind of player that JR loves. but with that, i can't help to be nosy about the so-called problems.
  14. the sox have the right kind of leadership last yr and even more now. i really mean the right kind with quality people. i remember after the royce clayton adventure, so one in the sox brass mention that they will not be wasting their time on so-called problem players like belle. this was in the .... i can't remember but it was for season ticket holders and sox brass.
  15. don't get me wrong, i am a huge fan of Bassitt, but i still keep seeing that 1er in 2 or less innings. i would like to see at the end of AZL league to gage him. i still he can be a valuable player, maybe in the pen
  16. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) Yes the BA or publication awards do not matter, but the farm system still needs some improving. The farm system is on the way up for sure, the Sox have been drafting pretty well since 2012 (When the CBA came into affect) and they have been consistently bringing in solid players from LA since they hired Marco Paddy. They may be ranked in the lower third of the ranking still, but they have made major strides but you have to remember that its going to take a few years for these guys to rise through the system. So in a year or two they might be ranked in the top ten or fifteen. The Sox could flip some of their major league assets for prospects during the offseason and that could potentially bring in some major prospects into the fold. then we can really trade Sale or Q for those prospects, right
  17. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Of course he has a long way to go, but also it's rather silly to put too much on three innings in a first outing in the AFL. Completely laughable, really. Montas was throwing 100+, a few ticks higher than his usual, which tells me there's an excellent chance he was overthrowing in an attempt to impress. This typically leads to a loss of command. The excellent reports of his performance while healthy at WS this year indicated significant strides in command as well as control. He was typically mid to upper nineties in those outings, not 100+. You can put a lot on these infinitesimally tiny sample size reports if you wish, and there's no other data input currently, so people will. This guy's repertoire is a starter's if the changeup improvement is real. in my top 10 at the beginning of the season, i had him raked #5. i have looked at him for a while. the problem then is still the problem now. does that change my opinion of him, no. can he still be a starting pitchers, maybe, bottom line he can be a great closer. the only problem i still have beside developing a #3 pitch is, is he still throwing with movement on his fastball.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 04:53 AM) Don't take any slight to it, it wasn't intended as such. It's just that if the White Sox keep graduating players and that's what keeps them from having a top rated farm system, so be it. that kool. no problems here. peace. now with ref to what I was hoping for the response, was to discuss the next wave of prospects and the importance of retooling the farm system. maybe get another point of view of new prospects including the int'l prospect who the sox sign, getting their names known.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) http://www.southsidesox.com/2014/10/11/696...-santiago-trade nice find. good reading. I have several questions. 1. what kind of problem did Eaton had in the clubhouse? 2. does any one think that he will put a full season without getting hurt?
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) I wouldn't mind getting Peavy and then flipping him at the deadline. Peavy, it might be an interesting piece. the only problem, at least for me is the cost. re: Philly, the cost to get Lee would be too high in prospects to make that trade. during the trading deadline, Philly was asking for a huge rtn. I don't think they are in that much of a dire need to trade.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) 1) That's assuming they don't draft well and restock. 2) Who gives a s***? If Rodon, Montas, Adams, Danish, Hawkins, Micah and Anderson turn into MLB contributors, we're looking pretty. nice f***ing language for a simple observation. I am glad the mods have that ability to make simple observation.
  22. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Didn't read the whole thread so I'm not sure if he's been mentioned yet, but I'd definitely see if the Phillies are giving up on Dom Brown. His value is pretty low at this point so I can see them holding on to him, but they more or less benched him at the end of the year so it's entirely possible. unless it was for discipline matters. just throwing that out there. I am prob wrong. edit: according to cbs sports, he is out due to a hand injury.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 12:37 AM) The serious answer? He told us that physically the stress of being a GM for that long was more than he could take and I don't blame him one bit for that. Making multi-million dollar gut instinct decisions and then having to wait 2-3 years to see if the results work out while still focusing on every game? The stress levels are inhuman, and Kenny spelled that out very well on "The club". Billy Beane in Moneyball is doing the same thing, not watching games to manage the stress. Kenny could take it for a while but had to call it quits at some point. what you are saying may be very true. however wouldn't that be a good answer to give when the sox brass want to move Hahn in as gm and move KW to a higher position?
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) IMO, Adams is a clear #7 behind Johnson, Hawkins, & Danish. He's obviously an incredibly talented prospect, but his success has only come against rookie ball competition. He will shoot up the charts next year if he does well at Kannapolis. Regardless, this is the strongest #1 through #7 the system has had in a long time. wow, I just thought of this. when the next batch of players move on up to the majors, the system is going to take a huge hit. I can imagine the sox dropping lower than 21.
  25. I truly agree with you. my problems has always been, how to the so called professionals grade them? are they graded on whether or not they will make the majors? it is all subjective and varies with the person who is grading the prospects, making the list, or using an idea of what that player is and should be, re: Johnson and Hawkins will be gage on potential and can make one of the 4.
