QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 06:53 AM) Abreu and Puig have beef from Cuba, something to keep in mind. They'd have to make amends before you could bring Puig in. I also would not trade Alexei, you'd need a glue guy like that to keep Puig from getting out of hand. Dat Cuban solidarity. We don't match up well with the Dodgers though. The Sox have to be unilaterally opposed to the idea of moving Q or Sale; those two combined with Rodon is the real core of this team. The Dodgers cannot honestly settle for a package headlined by John f***ing Danks. I'd trade him for nothing just to shed his contract. Micah's value has gone way up because the Royals have shown speed kills in the postseason, but dude can't field. Who else do the Sox throw in? Anderson? Can we really get Yasiel Puig for Danks, M Johnson and T Anderson? Oh my god, that doesn't even make sense. earlier in the preseason last yr, Jose A was happy to see Puig but it was Puig that seem to, for lack of better words, let the game go to his head. it was also implied that Jose A didn't make any effort to approach him during preseason. question, doesn't the dodger share the same complex with the sox? with Puig going superstar, there is no way I will trade for him. the other Cuban I always like is iYoenis Cespedes. was there a discussion a couple of weeks ago that he didn't want to sign an extension with Bos? I am wondering if he might be waiting to sign with chi. so why not fast start that and see what will it take? here is another thought, if the sox sign Tomas, how bout moving DV to dh then. unless the sox can trade him. I know that is a heavy right hand hitting line up.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 08:18 AM) Would wait one more year on Eaton. We also would have learned our lesson/s with Crede and Jenks had they been extended, for example. The Astros definitely would be hurting had Grossman, Singleton and Dominguez all accepted. while I do have concerns about eaton being able to stay healthy for a whole season, here is a better question, who will replace him as the #1 hitter in the lineup? does the sox have a #1 type player in the minors that can be groomed to perform in the major league?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Or the White Sox version of Yordano Ventura. from one of the Red Sox sites, soxprospects.com Scouting Report for Francellis Montas: Sturdy pitching frame with strong lower body. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Exceptional arm strength. Four-seam fastball operates at 96-100 mph. Fastball shows late tail in lower reaches of velocity and ride high in the zone at higher velocities. Can be straight at times. Below-average command and control. Tends to jerk his head off target and is a bit long in the back with arm action. Also throws mid-80s slider, but it presently lacks tilt and depth. Slider is flat on approach to the plate. He has the potential to refine the pitch into an average-to-better offering. In the development stages of learning a changeup, which presently sits 87-88 mph with minimal deception. Slows arm down when throwing. Very rough and raw on the mound. Just learning how to pitch. Late-inning reliever high leverage potential, but also has the potential to never make it past Double-A. Lottery ticket type prospect. nice find. the rpt took the shine off of him but I still have high hopes.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) Not a good thing or a bad thing. It's just a thing. It's also hard to draw any sort of conclusion over it too other than them wanting to get warm bodies in the system to see how they perform and signing college guys who they are sure will sign as opposed to reaching for guys who may not based solely on the efforts of getting one Carlos Rodon signed and under contract. I was somewhat disappointed with the 2014 draft, except for the first 2 rounds. that was until someone posted about saving money so the sox can sign Rodon. the sox may have drafted players that may fill out the roster and help with numbers in the system but still they need good prospects. barring any FA's signing or not using that as an excuse, next draft, the sox need hitters.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) Saw where the Cardinals had 17 players drafted/developed from their minor league system (everyone other than Wainright/Braves, Holliday/A's, Lackey/Red Sox and then free agent signings Peralta, Choate and Neshek)... Right now, we have Sale, Abreu, Alexei and Rodon. Rienzo, Taylor Thompson, Wilkins, Danks, Mitchell, Trayce Thompson...all probably living on borrowed time. Most would put Alexei, and definitely Viciedo in that category as well. I'm just looking at the current 40 man roster. Of course, there are other guys (I added Micah Johnson for argument's sake since he's the closest of this non-roster group) like Anderson, Hawkins, Danish and Adams. Perhaps you could add Chris Beck as well as Olacio and Kevan Smith. How likely is to get to at least 10-12 homegrown players before 2017? I think you are wrong with that list.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) They would lose their 2nd and 3rd round picks and the slot amount for those picks. Let's pretend that the Sox bonus pool is something like $6.5 million total. 1st round pick: 3.2 Million 2nd Round pick: $1.1 million 3rd Round pick: $750,000 (Those numbers are completely hypothetical). Not only would the Sox lose the 2nd and 3rd rd picks, instead of a $6.5 million draft pool, they'd have a tad over $4.5 million to spend total. Does this make sense? if the player that is a free agent is worth the lost, then yeah. that will help the sox make the playoff. however there is no way to gage that. so it is a crap shot on whether it is worth it.

another name to think about is, and I know it is crazy, is Adams last yr 2 rounder. he just might ' fly thru the system.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) Based on what? They didn't even attend his work out according to the press reports of who was there. unless they are getting overflowing encouragement form Jose A.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) OK, change up time. Any thoughts on the Sox going after Melky Cabrera? Signing Cabrera leaves the Sox with hopefully enough to pry Belt away from the Giants. Now the DH/LF and back up 1B positions have been addressed as well as adding two lefty bats to the lineup. I really would like to see the final deadline when clubs need to offer QO like this I can see which players are getting them. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Considering he signed for $40,000 less than Reetz, it could have literally been the difference between signing Rodon or not. excellant point. i didn't think about that.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) I wanted him so badly instead of Fry. Would have been a great first three picks. I was with you on this thought. I was posting during the draft on the link on this site. there were 1 cat and 3 pitchers I was following. at the beginning of the draft, I was identifying catchers and pitchers. Fry threw me for a loop, however he had some good results. as a potential.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Ew, no thanks on that front. If Q is going to the Marlins, give me 3B Colin Moran, SP Anthony DeSclafani, C J.T. Realmuto, and C/2B/3B Austin Barnes. Q was a top 10 WAR pitcher this season, and signed to a very nice, long deal. His value should be huge, and those are 4 potential top 10 players in the Marlins system. has been traded to Houston.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 10:16 PM) That's more what it is. They need to write, and if there is a down period like this, they have to come up with something. yeah but can't they see how much Levine is a dick?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) LOL, very true. Daver and Voodoochile are kind of the henchmen of WSI. Their form of "moderating" has done a great deal of help for SoxTalk. I was an eight year poster there until they forced my hand into finding and joining SoxTalk. if i remember correctly, i never had problems with Voodoochile and he was trying to mediate but the other clown kept the crap up. either way Voodoochile was always kool with me. peace

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) You’re talking about FarWestChicago. AFAIK, he got married and moved to Canada. Him and his wife basically own/run the site from their own servers although I don’t know that either of them actually post anymore. The other guy you are talking about is Daver. He’s FWC’s right-hand man and he was/is a plumber. He’s never been wrong about a single subject either. Just ask him. its good to see you. yeah I came back after many yrs of sickness/health issues. yeah i thought it was him. i just wasn't sure. i really can't remember what to conversation was that happen that night. either way, it was for the best, we came here. is davers still FWC right hand man?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) Report from MLBTradeRumors.com: Zach Links expects right-hander Justin Masterson to settle for a pillow contract to rebuild his value after a down 2014 and $12MM for that one year could make sense. I personally don't think that he's worth $12N for one year. when I read that, I was thinking if the journalist was wishful thinking or trying to relay info from Masterson camp. me. I agree, he is not worth 12 mil then again I am a fan and thinking as a fan. it is the baseball people who will determine what he is worth. however, I think something like 8-10 mil. -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 07:23 AM) I think that's entirely up to the player. Most players would seem to develope right up to their peak around the age of 30, give or take. Truth is, its a gamble on projected upside. One thing is for sure, teams will guess right on some and wrong on probably most. Sometimes it takes a change of scenery/ coaching staff for a player to get over that hump, sometimes a team needs a change of players and other times s*** just doesn't work out, again that's the gamble. Swisher is a decent example. The guy hit pretty well in a pitchers park out in Oakland and he projected well when factoring in the Cell being a hitters park and batting in a lineup with PK and Thome. Oddly enough it just did not work as planned despite his power numbers still there but his batting average and walks took a dive. you have a good point, I would like to also add, players do have a bad yr. -
cmon, does anybody on this board really think that the sox would trade Sale?

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 12:26 AM) Reread his comments and then go have a look at Heyward's stats and bio. In fact, here you go... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...a01.shtml?redir I don't care that he and I disagree, its the lame ass excuses being made. 25 years old does not mean he will not get better or is too old, 98 k's in 649 at bats is not "too much", Heyward playing in 149 games in 2014 is not being injured too often. Joshua even said Heyward would turn 26 by the start of the 2015 season which was bulls***. I could respect the opinion if Joshua just simply said he was not interested, fine. But he's throwing random nonsense out there and they are nothing more than excuses with no sense or credibility at all. There is a wonderful tool known as google search and very user friendly. Rather than throwing out nonsense, wouldn't it be better to look it up first? No offense LDF, I stand by my trolling comment. I understand what you are saying, last wk a poster, I can't remember who, said that DV was too old to improve his hitting and DV is 25. Heyward would be interesting if the price is right. I will be honest and this is what bugs me. at what point does a players stop developing? -
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 02:07 AM) I left in 03. Got suspended for posting a girl in a bikini as a joke response to a post and was told it was pornographic. It wasn't even close.
