QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) The Sox will be in some serious trouble if they have another string of catastrophic seasons. How many young baseball fans would want to cheer for the Sox over the Cubs at this point? IMO getting this team to a couple of playoff years in a row will do wonders to the fan base. I don't care who they get, but they better be confident that whoever it is will lead them to the postseason. I honestly believe the best candidate is Cespedes but my gut is telling me otherwise. I'm not sure if that is the disappointment of Dunn and his brother LaRoche in the back of my mind though. i agree, a lot of luck has to come into play with talent and right now, i am not demeaning the northside club or the talent they assembled, all i am say is get field a team that can compete, esp to get to the playoff..... anything can happen in the playoff. this will do wonders for the fan based. this time will be a buffer for the yrs when the farms starts to produce viable players....

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 07:02 AM) With the way money is literally pouring in to all MLB teams...ANY team that says they 'can't afford' to do something is total unmitigated BS. Period. End of story. The points about ticket sales not being as important today are correct. TV money drives the train (and given the Sox dismal ratings they damn well need to do something and fast before their deal expires in 2019). Just my opinion. Time for the Sox to show some flexibility and tell Cespedes agent "we'll go four years" maybe even include an out clause after two. With Davis signing now is the time to move. Not when it's to late. If you are "all in" (yet again) fine...BE all in. Mark and QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 06:55 AM) Why are we treating ticket sales like that source of income is that big of a deal, especially in this scenario... The Cubs doing good & the Sox doing good have much more bearing on the Sox budget than attendance does, due to their TV revenue. The Sox probably have the money if they want to, question is, do they want to spend it or keep half ass'ing everything they do? I have the feeling it'll be the latter. great post.... that has been my rant for the last 2 yrs.... and i will like to politely add, that 28 mil will come off the books at the end of 2016 which should help the ... ummm cash strap owners in 2017. but that is a quick fix, for lousy draft and lousy mismanagement from the high up. things are correcting itself, but the time is now......

i never got into cloverfielf, i just don't know why. but 10 cloverfield lane seem interesting to me, only b/c of john goodman. the trailer seem to be very good.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) How did Zangari last until the 5th round? that was great work by the sox scouting dept..... i would expect to see that from a pitching pov, but not hitting. way to go great job.

i will admit that i don't see the difference of deferred money or not, they, balt will still have to pay the amount.... so it will be on the back end of the contract, so, it can affect any incoming salary still.... how does it help in the salary now??? i always thought it would help a team if the team is not financially stable, but i think balt is stable.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Stan is gearing up for another move I think. It's not a ton of money, but the Kruger/LTIR situation is similar to last year, which allowed the Hawks to get Vermette on the books. the hawks and their FO, what can Stan do.... i sure would like to pull out another key trade to help the hawks get into the SC game.... however i look at this team and yeah the team has some holes, but that is for us, the fans to see these little imperfections, but as a team, can they maintain as is and do well in the coming playoff???? i have no answer, i am lost here.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:37 AM) I'm more and more convinced that the reason Kane spoke at the preseason camp in South Bend was more of a form of punishment from the Hawks, and that quote convinces me more. Same thing happened when Corey sprained his ankle drunk at the concert, he immediately had to answer for it. I've always heard how big of an asshole McDonough is, but that's why he's good at his job. wow.... that can do it, i never really thought of it that way. nice one. can you imagine Kane's embarrassment as he has to face the press and with all the pressure .....

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 02:00 AM) I've said this a number of time but it bears repeating every time I see misinformation. 2015 was Cespedes age 29 season. 5 years would be ( count with me) his age 1) 30, 2) 31. 3) 32 , 4) 33 , 5) 34 seasons. He will be 34 when a 5 year contract ends not 36 . So I gather that you are ok then with a contract that brings him through his age 35 season which then would be a 6 year contract . His birthday is October 18th so he get a whole season for each year of age unless he plays in the post season and that brings him past October 18th. so you can count.... impressive, however according to baseball ref he is 30 now.... do the counting. i will like the contract to end at age 34... but that is me... baseball FO has their own mind. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cespeyo01.shtml

QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) Oh how I was wishing for the Sox to rain on that dog and pony show going on with the northside by signing Cespedes today. Back to reality. most excellent.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:48 PM) Sox have nothing left to trade. Any upgrades really need to be via FA i can see what you are saying and i will respect your opinion. however i still think that sox do have some assets to trade from, even if it mean trading some of the prized prospects. the window of opportunity is now.... not 2 or 3 yrs from now. make smart trades not desperate trades.

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) Would anyone on this board make the signing of Davis if they were in the Orioles shoes? I think the answer to this question is a resounding "no." i agree with you, no freaking way, they, Balt was in the drivers seat, they could have taken him thru age 34 with a opt out year at 32. make no sense.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 04:29 PM) The only reason was that the orioles threw him a bone to save face because they wanted davis back. All of the boras tatics of marketing him as a OF and waiting for months got him essentially nothing. i don't know, but i think Balt just screwed the pooch on this.... the deal will end when davis is what, 36-37 yrs old....
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) I hope we do sign him, but I think he goes back to the Mets. i am really at an impasse with this, yeah i want him and it would not cost a pick..... but i think i would like a couple of key players from 2 team that makes more sense. but what the hay, what in hades do i know.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:31 PM) Then good luck to him. Now that Davis is signed, there should be clarity in the market for Cespedes. It's on him and his agency to get the best offers now, and pick one. And if the Sox don't match up, so be it. They have other options that will still be better than Garcia. Mostly, I think fans want Cespedes just because it feels like a win and it's not about what he actually brings as a player. He's good, but he's not that good...and don't discount that he could be a player that's part of the problem if things go bad in April and May. Then everyone will hate the guy and regret having him for 3-4 more years. i really don't care one way or the other if the sox really dive into the fa's market, i would prefer the trade route with some of the players that are rumored to be available..... and no, i do not mean any of of Col players.
-
QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) Torches will only light up the Chicago skyline on the southside of the city. first, 5 yrs of Cespedes too many yrs, that will make him 36 when the contract ends. i think 4yrs is just about right. however i am already acknowledging the fact that the team will not invest in anymore if any fa's..... that is a ship that has moved into another horizon. however, i wonder about some minor trades. i mean they can do that, at least...... but will they??? going into the sox convention, there will be many media news of how the sox couldn't spend b/c of budgetary reasons, or no money or any kind of b/s. i wonder if there will be any fans who will have the balls to address this there????

i just got back from the movie 13 hours ............... it put it mildly, it was great. that ...... oops, i will not go there. but all i will say is it added suspense to the movie.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 02:18 AM) I disagree...as long as kids are a huge part of the movie going fanbase, kids will always want to see them, unless of course the movies becomse so bad even kids don't care for them... everyone has an opinion and i kind of agree about the bore fest..... i stop watching these movies some 2 yrs ago. it became a over kill for me. but the kids concept .... i never thought of that.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) That was easily one of the best movies of last year. It filled with suspense and dread. It is a travesty that Benecio Del Toro was not nominated for Best Supporting Actor for one of the best performances of the year. i totally agree with this, this was for me a new direction in the filming . but BDT stole the movie. can't wait to see how they are going to spin the new movie on BDT character....

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) Well, there you go. I would not. First 30 minutes, very pumped. But if you are going to tell a simple story of revenge, you better damn make sure the revenge is a payoff. i thought the movie was ok, i think i like the org movie, even thou it is loosely base on glass. (the man in the wilderness richard harris actor). but an academy award movie??? not for me. anyone the ending of the real story was no where near the movie ending. but maybe who cares.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) The White Sox haven't mentioned their payroll at all. One thing they have been able to accomplish over the years is to get the media and the fans to always buy into the "we don't have any money" routine. When they signed Dunn and brought Paulie and AJ back, people wondered where they got the money. The season was a disappointment, the attendance dropped again, but they still, according to Forbes, made money. That was with a $127 million payroll and $25 million less a year from the national TV contract. I also don't understand the 2 year window people. Yes, in 2 years guys like Melky and Frazier and Lawrie could be gone, but that frees up money and maybe a couple of minor leaguers step up. One infamous whiner has gone from the Sox window won't open for 2 years to saying it will shut in 2 years due to Frazier and Lawrie. What did they give up for those guys that was going to be the fuel for the team being great in 2 years? I think if they get Cespedes or Fowler or Jackson, they are looking good in 2016. Jackson intrigues me. He was a good player in Detroit but like several others, couldn't hit at all in Seattle. See Beltre, Adrian. He isn't Beltre with the bat, but IMO, would look good in CF, and is still 29 and probably good for at least a 2 WAR, maybe more. I still want Upton, Cespedes, Jackson, Fowler in that order. I think RH will get one of them. It's probably hopeless on Upton, but an OF upgrade, and a couple things going correctly, this team should be pretty good. nice post and pretty much as how i feel. i do not know if i am that whiner you mention, but i thought that comment was funny. good one. now, i am and have been saying for the longest time that the sox do have that money and have it diversified ..... they have great accounts to do that kind of work. but i am also talking about being able to compete in today's environment and a payroll of a 120 mil is not going to cut it. salary is going across the board exponentially and unless the sox expect to field a team like Tpa or an AL west coast team, the chi sox fans will not stand for it. this team has the makings of doing something great, if they continue to get those missing pieces. if the FA's route is too costly for them, then they will not have a choice but to go the trade route. Mil and Tpa are 2 teams looking for salary relief or rebuilding, the whole list of salary arbitration just came out, i am sure some will be release, esp if they win their case.... it is obvious that at this time, other FA's will not be signed. so...... as a fan, i am waiting to see what the owners will allow Hahn to do next..... as caulfield said on the other post young and cheap.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 11:15 PM) Concussion was fine. Felt the love story really messed up the pacing. yeah in a way, i agree. i could have done without it, unless it was to show that all didn't go right for him either and he too suffered as well, in a different way.

i saw Solace and i really like it. i thought Anthony Hopkins as the doctor was believable, for me. Colin Farrell who i really never liked as an actor, did a really good job in this movie. it was kind of weird in a sense that as i was watching the movie, i found myself comparing it to the org movie manhunter, the org Dr. Hannibal Lecktor.....

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) We can have Ryan Braun...so there's that. i have been waiting for the brewers to make some kind of move for the past month. braun, length of contract, cost of salary, and the shadow of peds. too risky for me, unless it will be a great one sided trade.
-
well, i have been waiting for this rumor / speculation, mil brewers / according to mlb rumors, will be looking to trade their assets. now, with ref to Sab statics, i really do not know the plus and cons, of their defense. now, with some of their players, esp 1 player, K. Davis, i would even be willing to trade some of the price prospects.....
