    We have a new pope!

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) I take Martin Luther's perspective like I said earlier, and I hope people respect that like I respect the pope. To be honest, I hope the pope is a heck of a lot more, uh, diplomatic that Luther. Ever read his stuff on the Jews and Women? Daaaaaaaaang. I respect what he did, I'm just saying, Luther is not as central to Lutheranism as the Pope is to Catholicism.

    We have a new pope!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) Serious question. Do you honestly believe we will ever see the Catholic Church move towards the middle on issues like sex and sexuality? Yes. At least when it comes to condoms. I think at some point they are going to realize that propogating a "culture of life" includes not spreading diseases (even if it starts slowly--i.e. letting married couples use them).

    We have a new pope!

QUOTE(winodj @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) A lot of us are Catholic. Or religious and are looking to see how the new pope will affect relations with other religions, nations, etc. Also, the man is a moral compass for the world--and it will be interesting to hear his stance on things. For example, his name suggests he will be a huge advocate for Peace.

    We have a new pope!

Not thrilled with this choice--but also not a Catholic. Like the name, though, hopefully he'll model himself on the last Benedict....

    We have a new pope!

when do we find out who it is?
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) I was also in left field, I felt the same way last night, not to mention the constant throwing of peanuts at the twins fans behind me. That is so unacceptable. For the past four years I was at every series against the Twins at the Rollerdome--and I was never really heckled or harrassed. I'm embarrassed and sad that it happens by fans of my team..

  10. I can't believe we won that game--but I'll take it.
  11. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Austria Man, I can't even get a joke right today.
  12. Frank has one of the best eyes in baseball. I'll take him, if he's healthy.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) It turns out that I have a torn Labral in my shoulder. It is a tissue that basically holds the shoulder together. The labrum is analogous to the meniscus in the knee, so I basically have the same condition as Maggs, just in my shoulder. I'm having an MRI next Monday for further testing. I'm hoping physical therapy will be enough to fix it, but it's not likely. I might have to have arthroscopic surgery.. I hear Switzerland has some great docs....
  14. Partly due to my weekend experience (oy) and partly due to the fact that I'm giving a test to the most whiny undergrads ever, I'm going to have to go with Jodee Messina's "My Give a Damn's Busted"
  15. In contrast to the rest of the top 30 Ichiro is a steal.
  16. Funny, I never call my college friends (in minnesota) during a series with the twins, but, I guess I can talk to strangers who are Twins fans. Welcome.

    Friday night lights..

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Donna, TX high school just suspended a bunch of players for a freshman initiation that involved latex gloves and bending over. The coach tried to cover it up. When the School Board met to discuss firing him (duh), more people where there to voice their support. After all, they made the playoffs last year. :headshake They claimed the School Board was not showing support for the coach :headshake Funny, the NY Times just had a story about a girls high school basketball team from Texas that went deep into the play-offs but fired the coach mostly because she was a lesbian....

    Friday night lights..

It was just another example of the anti-Texas media.
  19. Sure you've got this one covered but.... Haight-Ashbury (bring your own deoderant)
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) She was probably trying to slam on the brakes really hard and acciedently floored it. When I was learning to drive I was making a left turn at an intersection. When I looked, there was nobody coming, but suddenly a car came out of the car dealership and across the road right in front of me. I tried to slam on the brakes but I accidently hit both pedals, so I just kind of skidded. That was mostly because of my monstrously wide feet however. I understand that, but when you accidentally floor a car your foot in on the gas for a fraction of a second. Like maybe 250-500ms. A crappy no power car (eg Dodge Neon) needs like 5 seconds to get to 30. I don't understand how you can get your car to a terminal velocity by accidentally pushing the wrong pedal. When you feel it accelerate you take your foot off that pedal...She couldn't have gone above 10-15 mph.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) It should have left some bruises maybe even a broken bone or two. But i mean what the f*** did she stomp on the gas pedal? Or hold down the gas? Or was she parallel paking at 40mph?
  22. I don't understand how accidentally pressing the gas pedal would make the car go instantly fast enough to run over the mom and kill her.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) High t-value confirming your hypothosis? That's what happens when you make up stats Hellz yeah baby. But man, I couldn't make up statistics this beautiful. Not even in my sweeeeeeeeetest dream....
