  1. My ex once dedicated "Cold Cold Heart" to me at a show he was playing. That was kind of harsh. But we didn't break up just then....
  2. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) Nothing, as long as he doesn't express his "alternate lifestyle" behind his wife's back and give his male lover a lucrative job in his state government. So, then, the problem isn't that he's gay, but that's he's a lying, cheating, jackass.

    Kind of a cool website

Mine didn't even make the list at all.
  4. When was your name popular?
  5. QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Hey, if you can get me a radio gig, I might consider it. As long as you can deal with a guy with hungarian pop art political posters from the late 80s and has a tendency to let his mail pile up for upwards of three days! Oh, if only I could replace some of the awful DJs out here..... However, Clear Channel has been advertising like crazy...I bet you'd fit in there....
  6. QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Do I wish I was joking? Yes. Am I? No. I'm sorry. That sucks. I am, however, looking for a roommate. Heckuva commute for you, though....

    Molested....?

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) No. Outside of a civil suit, she has no legal recourse. Not necessarily. That really depends on the state where it occurred. I highly recommend calling a legal advocate that specializes in this issue--because it's kind of murky....
  8. QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) My roommate is seriously trying to kick me out of my apartment, in no small part, because of my taste in art. What's your taste in art? If it has anything to do with Bea Arthur, I might have to agree with the roomie...

    Molested....?

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) Soxy.. thank you. And I think I will call. Since she told me this I am literally sick to my stomach. I can't get the thoughts out of my head. I feel like I was in some way violated also. I'm so angry and hurt but I'm not sure why. I just feel like crying. Totally normal and acceptable. I think there might be numbers to call on RAINN's website. Overall it's my number one recommended website for these issues.

    Molested....?

I'm linking RAINN's legal website, for stuff about statute of limitations. Overall, it's a very good website, and she might be able (or you might be able) to find some very good resources about coping, what to do, statistics and stuff.... I think the most important thing that you can do is to tell her that you believe her and that you're sorry for what happened to her. I wouldn't offer her advice per se, but instead I would give her options open to her (talking to her family, going to the police, going to a support group, telling significant others, etc.). I would recommend her to calling a local (or national) support line for victims of intimate violence. They can tell her very specifically the resources available to her in her area and they also will have advocates that specialize in legal issues, CSA issues, and also could have some help for her husband (the b**** about stuff like this is that there's never just one victim--her whole family has been victimized). So, I would highly recommend that. Also, you, Steff, might want to call and talk to someone at the advocacy center. Sometimes it really hits hard when you find out someone close has been hurt by something like this. And they have advocates that are trained to help the loved one's of victims (called secondary survivors). If you have any questions or anything you can PM me--I haven't done that kind of advocacy in a few months--but I'm always willing to help.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 07:50 AM) Somebody's playing us..... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...1&st=&p=entry Bwahahahaha! That's hi-larious.
  12. I almost forgot this gem of a Bob Dylan story: I took a class on existentialism in College. And we read all the big names: Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Camus, Sartre and Dylan. Our professor claimed the Bob Dylan was the last of the great existential philosophers. And I guess he was right.
  13. I've got a couple of things going at the moment: Warrior Woman by Maxine Hong The Good of Affluence, Seeking God in a Culture of Wealth by Schneider And my goal is by Easter to have read all of the Books of the Prophets in the Old Testament... Plus at the moment I am reading: Specificity of memory representations for spoken words. By Luce and Lyons (article)
  14. From Tangled Up In Blue She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe "I thought you'd never say hello," she said "You look like the silent type." Then she opened up a book of poems And handed it to me Written by an Italian poet From the thirteenth century. And every one of them words rang true And glowed like burnin' coal Pourin' off of every page Like it was written in my soul from me to you, Tangled up in blue. And It Ain't Me Babe (my other Bob song du jour) Go 'way from my window, Leave at your own chosen speed. I'm not the one you want, babe, I'm not the one you need. You say you're lookin' for someone Never weak but always strong, To protect you an' defend you Whether you are right or wrong, Someone to open each and every door, But it ain't me, babe, No, no, no, it ain't me, babe, It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe. Go lightly from the ledge, babe, Go lightly on the ground. I'm not the one you want, babe, I will only let you down. You say you're lookin' for someone Who will promise never to part, Someone to close his eyes for you, Someone to close his heart, Someone who will die for you an' more, But it ain't me, babe, No, no, no, it ain't me, babe, It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe. Go melt back into the night, babe, Everything inside is made of stone. There's nothing in here moving An' anyway I'm not alone. You say you're looking for someone Who'll pick you up each time you fall, To gather flowers constantly An' to come each time you call, A lover for your life an' nothing more, But it ain't me, babe, No, no, no, it ain't me, babe, It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe.
  15. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) The wording they have used in all the articles I've read has definitely freaked me out. Meh, I've had a good run.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) Oooh tutor me, make me do it again Ewwww, I hope that isn't why kids come to my office hours. Although, honestly, I've only ever had one girl show up. I always just thought the boys were more motivated....
  17. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) Wow, now we're talking. I'd much rather talk about this to be honest. 1 John 3:16 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. " Exactly! Right there! That's the disconnect. I mean, I think that part of it really is that we're wealthy. I also think part of it might be a lot of the protestent churches docterine of faith and faith alone. But I also think that it's much easier to point the finger at someone else (wearing J Crew, driving a Benz, and in the comfort of our own home) than to give all that you have. I will never forget sitting in my ethics class with these really condescending and condeming kids as they lectured to the rest of us about what terrible Christians we were for this and that as they sat there in Abercrombie, Nike, and other overpriced stuff. The irony of it almost made me laugh. That's why I am amazed when people say we give enough in foreign aid, to charities, etc. Would Jesus have said we give enough as we live in this lap of luxury? I doubt it....
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) As a returning student and more a peer of my professors than the GA, I really don't like some snot nosed kid grading my stuff. I know I will not have the same smooze factor I get with the Professor, especially when our kids are in the same school . . . Lol, I actually don't mind my non-traditional students (although, lecturing/grading/tutoring them is intimidating to say the least). They tend not to think that they're owed good grades, which a lot of the younger crowd seems to believe.
  19. Not to totally hijack this thread, but.... I think it's interesting that the biggest debate in religion seems to be the debate on gay marriage. While, it appears, a myriad of things Jesus was much more fervent about seem to fall to the wayside because they affect more people. One of the things Jesus went on about most in the Gospels was the evils of possessions--how they end up owning you, you can't serve 2 masters, harder for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than a rich man enter heaven, sending away the young man because he wouldn't give it all up, the widow's offering and the poor man's offering, Zacchieus, Judas selling Christ for silver (and those are the few examples I can think of off the top of my head--I know there's more). Yet we live in a country that is the wealthiest in the world--and prides itself on its overwhelmingly Christian majority. I think there's a disconnect there. Why, oh, why isn't this one of the MOST talked about issues facing Christianity? I am honestly, honestly baffled by this.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) So you like the first one with the $100 attached correct? Shoot, I'm a grad student! It doesn't take much, I'll like the one with Andrew Jackson clipped to it!
  21. How not to get me to change your grade: Hello! I wanted to know if I can pick up my test tommorow, becuase the grade i recieved is not good. I mean i know i did better than that. Thank you Or..... I am seriously confused about the grade I received on this last test. I studied HARD for this test. I wrote out all the questions on the study sheet and I read over my notes and the text. I went over my notes since the first day of class, I didn't cram, because I did not want to screw up in this class and I wanted to pull up my grades up seeing as I am a second semester junior. I do not, FOR THE LIFE OF ME, understand how I received a 10.5 out of 20 on this test. I am so shocked that even a 16 out of 20 would have surprised me alot, that is how well I really believed I did on this test. I do not know what went wrong and I shudder to think what my grades on other test and in the class will be if this continues. What can I do? To give you an example of how shocked I am, I feel like if someone gave me a problem: 2+2 and I answered 4 and received an F!!! what can I do? who can I talk to? can this grade be negotionable? thank you. a VERY CONCERNED student
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) And after the tragic death of John Lennon and Kurt Kobain, I don't know that there is a lyricisit alive who owns the right to say that like Dylan. And I will say it is interesting to see who replied to this before most. First half: Second:
