2010-2011 NBA Thread
http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/pippen_csn_110223.html Ugh. Pippen is just brutal as a broadcaster. Loved him as a player, but he brings nothing as a broadcaster. I usually prefer listening to national broadcasts anyway, but this cements that for me.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) Do you have a link to where I can see current cap data? I remember being told on here that the cap would probably be high enough as to not require the Heat to shed one of the "big three", but what other teams would be impacted? http://hoopshype.com/salaries/miami.htm But if there is a hard cap in the new CBA (which many think is possible), they will be royally F'd. They will still likely be able to keep the big three, but will have to have minimum-salaried players filling out their roster. So likely no first-round picks could fit, no Mike Miller, Haslems, etc.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) And next on the list will be Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. And when Blake Griffin is eligible he's gone. This is unbelievable. I figure we've got two years MAX to win a title with D-rose as the centerpiece before he becomes a FA or gets traded because of a beef with TT or complains about not winning. Woah, woah, woah. Rose ain't going anywhere.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) Not sure what Lee's contract is but I actually hope Orlando goes after him when he hits FA so we can go with a Lee / Redick SG combo again. I know Dwight Howard is a big fan of his, he's just a solid player with 3 PT range who'll give you good defense, exactly what Chicago needs. 2010-2011: $1,352,640 2011-2012: $2,225,092 2012-2013: $3,221,933 (qualifying offer) So very cheap contract.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) Yep pretty much. I read that Courtney Lee is a favorite of Thibodeau's. I still think he's by far the best option for the Bulls for their SG spot. Lee is definitely the guy I want. He has gotten some decent minutes recently and put up some big scoring numbers with great field goal percentages. I am by no means enamored by him, but I would much rather him than Anthony Parker. Mayo is especially intriguing, but I am not sure I want the character risk.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) Marcus Thornton from the Hornets is also available for a 1st round pick. Has very good ability offensively, but defensively he's a mess, that's why Monty Williams won't play him. Well he won't play here then too if he can't cut it defensively.

It's Miami's first-round pick for this year, which is currently held by Toronto. Not bad, especially if you scout well. Can get a decent role player around 30. Although the Bulls basically traded first round draft picks straight up and moved down 14 spots or so. I would love to pull a Spurs and use it on a foreign player who then blossoms a couple years later for you.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 06:06 AM) Id imagine the Knicks will be big players for Chris Paul or Deron Williams too when they become f/a's, so Billups will for short term be an upgrade and obviously one of those 2 will be a major upgrade over Felton. There has been a lot of talk about a hard cap in the NBA and if so, there is no way they can sign one of the PGs in addition to Amare/Stoudemire.

Knicks are gonna score 110 every night now. Too bad they will be giving up 115.

Mark Buehrle talks about the future after 2011
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Chet, I'm pretty sure you're the only person in the entire world that thinks Buehrle is going to swiftly fall off a cliff. Personally, I think he's going to put up an ERA of about 4.25 over the next 5-7 years and throw 1000-1500 innings. So as long as Mark can continue to locate his pitches (something that goes last for pitchers), I agree with those numbers. Solid 3-4 starter in the AL because he will keep ya in games, log 200+ innings and never miss a start. I just Mark to be on the Sox to win 200 games. That, in this era of baseball, is an incredible statistic -- and to do it with one team is extremely rare. I would venture a guess and say no one who has started a career since 2000 has even close to 200 wins (besides Mark with one team).

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) Prior's mechanics were horrible. Steve Stone offered to help adjust Prior's motion before he hurt himself, but got turned down flat. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Prior's mechanics were as perfect as Strasburg's are now. It just depends on whose philosophy you follow. There were many people who stated that Prior had the best mechanics they had ever seen and could repeat it flawlessly. Prior had pretty much impeccable mechanics. Also think Prior might have used PEDs; his calfs with inhumanely huge.

Chris Sale Will Start the Season in the Bullpen
Personally, I would rather have Sale learning from Coop as a reliever in Chicago than starting in AAA. Even if he is a reliever this year, he is learning the ropes of the majors and the players, so that next year when he transitions to starter he can do that smooth. Any ML experience is better than AAA experience IMO. Wainwright is probably the best comparison for him albeit he did it at an older age.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 18, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) 4 1st round picks, yeesh. Actually the best scenario IMO. If he had waited til FA and joined the Knicks, they would have Stoudemire-Chandler-Melo-Fields-Felton as a starting lineup. Scary good even though they would suck at D. All this does for the Nets is making them playoff caliber, but they are still a long way away from being contenders. Now if they get a Williams or Paul, they get closer.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) A guy like Parker makes us better than a guy like Asik does(when Noah gets back) That may be true for this year, but it makes no sense in the long run. And a guy like Parker is not going to be the difference in a playoff series. If we don't have Asik against the Magic, we are f**ked actually. No way I give up him for Parker.

Thank god those ping pong balls bounced our way. We have a unquestioned top-five player in the NBA who is 22 years old. Oh my god. He hasn't even come close to reaching his peak and is already a 24/8 guy. Get him a upgrade at the two guard spot and he ups that assist total to 10. Start getting more calls, improving even more on his shot, wow...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) It's too bad the Bulls won't be. I really don't anticipate much of an adjustment period for Noah. His game is all energy, rebounding and defensive positioning -- all things that he can do fine coming back from his injury.

Miggy Cabrera DUI
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) are you guys calling for a long suspension based on the fact this is the 2nd alcohol related problem he's had? I don't see any lengthy suspension, MLB has way too strong of a union and there's been no precedent to support something like that. These aren't just problems like he got drunk and had funny pictures posted. He beat up his wife and got a DUI. Those are serious issues that warrant action from baseball, at the very least the Tigers. The Tigers can easily suspend him, but will they is the question? And the the league should as well. You can't have players doing this s*** without consequence.

Miggy Cabrera DUI
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) I've read that this is a strategy that is being coached up for celebrities and sports figures so the mug shot that goes around doesn't look absolutely awful. Interesting. If you're as toasted as Miguel likely was, you think he is thinking, "oh yeah, my mug-shot coach told me to smile in my picture?"

Miggy Cabrera DUI
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) Pretty crazy story. And no, this doesn't belong in some catch all. In fact, I'm closing that catch all for the very reason. This is pretty big news. IF this was the NFL, a long suspension would be near. I wonder if Selig makes a tough decision and gives him a hard suspension given that he resisted arrest, was beyond obliterated, and it is a multiple offense. He's out half the season in the NFL probably since it's a second alcohol-related offense. With appeal, the suspension is probably down to six games. So that's 3/8 of the season or 61 games in the MLB. This is ginormous news as it affects the Central race, if he is out any significant period of time, it drastically kills the Tigers. At the very least, the Tigers need to take their own action and suspend this bozo. Behavior of this nature cannot be tolerated at all.

Miggy Cabrera DUI
Cabrera better not be allowed to play. Anyone else in any other field of employment would suffer those consequences.
