  1. I'll be moseying probably 6:15 to 6:30 ish. Is there going to be a guessing game when people come in as to their username?
  2. So which one of you will fall down from drunkenness first?
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 01:51 AM) A $10 to $12 million dollar a year set-up man when you already have a closer making $15 million. So that's almost $30 million dedicated to two relievers. That would be fiscally irresponsible even for the Yankees and clearly a panic move to counter what the Red Sox have done. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 01:59 AM) As good as Soriano is, $10 million for 70 innings that won't be pitched in the 9th is ridiculous. You can talk about how much a reliever is worth with regards to WAR all day, but at the end of the day, relievers get paid for WPA, and paying that for a guy to pitch the 8th inning would result in virtually little return on investment. It'd basically be a $10 million insurance policy on Mo. While I agree with everything there, it's the Yankees and their fiscal responsibility is a lot different than any other team. The fact that they have a horrific rotation right now means that their pen better be top-notch to compete. So while $10 million for a 70-inning set-up man is way too much, it would ensure them the best 1-2 bunch in baseball and certainly help them lockdown the end of games. But it is interesting to note that even the Yankees haven't paid up to Boras yet so maybe either they realize 1) they would be bidding against themselves, 2) he isn't as good as his stats indicate 3) they do realize that's a lot of money for a set-up man or 4) they have become more financially responsible. I am inclined to go with 1 right now.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) BTW, the news of the day is that Soriano would be willing to be a set up guy for exactly one team... The Yankees. Well that's fine because he'd compete for the closer's role here.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) Another $8 million from a particular trade that I won't dare mention would be nice as well. But I wouldn't want to spend it on Soriano. And I'm a huge fan of the guy. Yeah that is big. Although i don't mind the swap of Jackson for Hudson in numbers for 2011, it's the money that is the big issue here.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) Jabari is a one and done player no matter where he goes. He would be skipping college if it were allowed. To be he's actually not. He isn't overly athletic. He gets by on technical skills and smarts rather than athleticism. Most guys that are one-and-done players are really athletic. I think he won't be as immediate an impact freshman as people think.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) I'm somewhat baffled that he isn't being pursued more aggressively by teams? Why is that? Admittedly I haven't been following the guy over the years but his numbers are quite impressive. He has been one of the FIVE best relievers in baseball the last five years when healthy. I am dumbfounded as to the lack of interest. Since 2006, he has a 2.53 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 3.60 K/BB ratio. And he has been healthy since 2006 every year except 2008. He is the rare exceptions of relievers who don't have up-and-down careers, he has been dominant every year he has been healthy. What gives? God I wish we didn't have Teahen, that's $5 million that could go to Soriano.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) Watching Jabari Parker the past few days down at Pontiac. The kid does it all and makes it look simple. Does not belong at the high school level and only a sophomore. Whoever gets him for college, he will be gone after 1 year, Sort of some inside info on Jabari. This is second hand from a person who spoke to Robert Smith (Simeon's coach). Jabari was the first sophomore Coach K has offered a scholarship to and Coach K told Jabari he would help make him a one-and-done player. Furthermore, Smith said that they like Illinois, but Duke is Duke. Nike is a client of the company I work for, so we do have contact with the Chicago HS B-Ball coaches. Take it for what it's worth though.
  9. I won't have any sports stuff since I will be coming directly from work, but I will see all of yours, haha.
  10. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 12:37 AM) if u want to talk about nonsense, how about all the cheering and ovation scalabrine receives. I'd be embarrassed if I were him. Yeah he is in the NBA, but still. He is like that white walk-on that everyone loves on the team because he sucks and only plays in blowouts. How soon before they chant his name near the end of games?
  11. It just so surprising to me that he hasn't signed with the Yankees. It actually seems too perfect for the marriage. Yankees have the money. Deal with Boras all the time. Have a gaping hole in their bullpen right after Mariano. Could use some insurance in case Mo becomes injured. I still think he will be a Yankee come opening day.
  12. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) I'm with you...I think this is a pretty awesome idea I think it would be funny if the two captains agree to take their first two picks last. So let's just say Toews/Malkin were captains. They agree behind the doors to take Sid/Ovechkin last.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) I think it's just the numbers that make people dismiss it. Closers who stay healthy for a couple years and put up the kind of numbers he put up last year have this habit of getting mutli-year, $10 million a year deals, nd it seems crazy to think of the Sox giving that to a relief pitcher. If he's genuinely dropping into the 2 year, $6-$8 million range, or less, then that's bargain-basement money for an established closer. I looked at his numbers and he has been arguably a top five reliever in baseball the past few years. Injuries are the only risk. When he is healthy, he is a stud.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) So who would you rather play? Philly or New Orleans? New Orleans. Outside the dome, they aren't the same team. Granted, I said that and then looked at Brees' stats this year outdoors, in the cold, away and they all say he is really good outside. In fact, their offense as a whole (yards wise) is better away. Take it with a grain of salt, however, as they played San Fran, Arizona, Tampa, Carolina, Dallas, Cincy, Baltimore and Atlanta on the road. So that's two good teams, one solid team and five s***ty teams. I still think the Eagles speed all over on offense is a worse match up for the Bears. Pray for the Seahawks and Packers to win.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) Unfortunately, I will not be there. I'm not sure if you want to still do this. Ah s***, call it off!!
  16. Stalberg gets kicked and no call. What a joke. I don't care if it was a light kick, you can't kick an opponent.
  17. Nice. It'd be awesome to get a big group out. Chances I am the youngest one there at 23??
  18. Harris makes a play!! Oh my!
  19. Knox is still a long ways away from being a great receiver.
  20. I say his hands are still under the ball, ball never CONCLUSIVELY hits the ground. PS Any see Anthony Adams go after that second football, thought that was funny.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) There's a reason why the NFL doesn't do that. Coaches will tell people that if they're beat on the long ball, just leap and tackle the guy before the ball gets there. I think the way to do it is that it needs to be reviewable, so that a ref can overrule the call on the field on a 50 yard PI call if the video is clear. That's definitely the argument against it, but you don't see that happening in college.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) I'm fully supportive of the NFL suspending people for using their helmet as a weapon on tackles, but there really does need to be a payback. Some of these penalties need to be reviewable. The Pass Interference calls first, and some of these roughing penalties second. I am in favor of the college version of pass interference of all 15-yard penalties. Too many times, teams get 55-yard penalties for very borderline PIs (sometimes not even legitimate).
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) I dunno, I think the Giants have just about as many weapons (much much stronger running game) and a defense that certainly can hang with the packers, if that line plays together. To me the teams are quite similar, so it comes down to Eli v. Rodgers. And there is no doubt about that.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) Its ok to run the ball on 3rd and 1 Taylor's a bum though. And they aren't going to let Forte get nailed in a pile like that. We need a fat white RB like Kuhn.
  25. Jeez Taylor, take that one outside. Can't wait to whack him, Harris and Manumaleuna this off-season.
