Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Yeah, if I'm Bertrand, I'm definitely transferring because he has no future with Illinois. I'd consider thinking the same if I was Crandall Head too. Crandall will be fine. Remember he lost all of last year to a knee injury so he still in recovery mode.

Official Recruiting Thread II
Wing Devin Langford has apparently committed to Illinois. I have a feeling this will be either a great get (as he blows up and become a really really good player) or just a complete bust that results in him transferring. For some reason, I just don't see any middle ground that he becomes a good role player.

Buehrle gets the save
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) I take it you left that comment on the story? lol. Yeah, I did. Ha. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) I'm guessing you have never had a dog. Mine, like I'm sure is the same as most, is part of my family. Same here. I could not imagine my life without my dogs. I would run into a burning building to try and save them.

Buehrle gets the save
Great fact checking on Buehrle's name (spelling wise in the text) and the random alcohol shots during the story. And don't even get me started how Buehrle even became involved. Great job Mark, but that was an awful journalistic story.

Of all the places, I would go for Jimmy Greens in the South Loop. Maybe have a poll? And maybe move to main board for more eyes to see?

Inaugural Soxtalk Winter Meetings & Drinkathon
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Dammit. May have to change the venue. Looks like this place is a concert venue on the weekends. Gah! Anyone object to Small Bar on Division instead? I kinda do. I know for me, it's an absolute b**** getting to the blue line out there. I'd still prefer closer to Redline. I am not the biggest bar goer, so I don't know all of them, but there is a good selection on Clark or in Lincoln Park close to the Redline. South Loop works too... This is a Small Bar on Fullerton, too. That might satisfy the Small Bar place + close to the Redline. Are they basically the same? Or does each location have a different vibe?

Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years
QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) Nobody in their right mind wouldn't want Crawford, but at that price the Red Sox can have him. Yeah at $20 per year, that is just ludicrous.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) True. WSI is a horrible board. They have like 15000 Scott Merkins over there. You can't even being to say something negative about the franchise without them threatening to ban you. Makes me appreciate the great work Jason, Heads and all the guys do over here that much more. That would be bad. If you can't have arguments over your team, what's the point of posting your opinions?

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) Why do you think they are overrated? Any time you can put yourself in a better position to score is a very good thing. I will agree with Jordan4life here. They have been proven to be overrated because the amount of times you fail in stealing gives up one valuable out which is more important than moving that runner up one base via the SB. SBs aren't awful if stolen at a high percentage, but they are overrated.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Just because we don't have anybody better doesn't mean that JP sucks any less. How the f*** does a major league baseball player amass 22 extra base hits in 734 PAs? He's terrible. I don't care, And stolen bases have long proven to be overrated. You can't have nine Barry Bonds on every team. It's only natural that some positions are going to be filled by lesser ball players. The fact of the matter is after the All-Star break JP was not terrible, before yes he was bad. JP had the same WAR last year as Adam Jones. And fielding-wise, JP had the EIGHTH BEST UZR of all outfielders. So he was a a terrific fielder. I think its a misconception that Juan Pierre sucked last year simply because he doesn't have power. He also had the ninth best WAR out of left fielders. He doesn't suck. He just doesn't have a high slugging percentage. There's a difference.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Thank you for expressing your sentiments regarding Pierre. I've posted several extensive comments on White Sox Interactive about how I would like to see the Sox upgrade the outfield, starting with Pierre. The insults and attacks against my suggestions have been "over the top". Geez, I can't help it if a guy who can't drive the ball out of the infield doesn't excite me. Apparently, a lot of the guys on that board just think that it's all about stolen bases. Pierre can do that, but that's about all he can do. At any rate, it's nice to see that I'm not the only one who is not enamored with J. P.'s game. I don't anyone is particular enamored with JP's game (granted I haven't see your conversations with others on this board), but after the All-Star break, JP was solid: .295 average, .357 OBP and 36 SBs to 7 CSs. For a leadoff hitter making $4 million (taking into consideration what the Dodger's are paying) that is pretty good. Chone Figgins was worse last year and the Mariners are paying double than the what the Sox are. JP played very good D and was a strong player after the break. He also added 33 RBIs, too after the break. Is the ideal? No. But at the low price, he is fine. Who out there at a reasonable price is gonna perform better? Obviously there are many players better than JP, but they also command triple his salary. Sometimes you need less than ideal players because of salary restraints. Of all the things wrong last year, Juan Pierre was not one of them.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) Ok, I know nothing about this guy. What is so intriguing about him? I assume we are referring to the guy that had played with the Blue Jays? All I can tell is that even the one year he posted a good ERA he had a horrendous WHIP (>1.5). I assume he has a live, power arm or something? I don't get the Accardo interest. He has had one good year in his ML life with a 2.14 ERA in 2007. He had a nice ERA in limited innings in 2009 (2.55), but a horrific WHIP (1.62). Man I hope this is not the type we are going to go after because he pretty much blows. Would rather see s***ty prospects pitch than this bum. I wonder if there is any thought to moving Addison Reed back to a reliever to speed his timetable up? As well, I am now fully convinced Sale is going to be in the pen as the closer with Matt and Sergio as the set-up men. Pena as one of the middle relievers. EDIT: I see Addison relieved most of this year in the minors.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Joe's on Weed Street? It's a couple blocks from the Red Line. I work like a block from there, so that would be perfect for me As well, those dates mentioned in the first post work for me.

I am totally in with the caveat that it needs to be close to a redline stop. (But most places being discussed are).

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) The Sox have handled this brilliantly, as they put the ball in PK's court. The whole AJP/Dunn "deferred money" quote was brilliant by the Sox. True, if PK doesn't sign here, it will be played off as greed by the Sox brass. But for a lot of fans, they will be pissed -- the ones that don't understand baseball dynamics and how to build a team.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Honestly, I couldn't be happier right now. If PK comes back, then great, he's my favorite Sox player ever. If it's Lee and 1-2 relievers, then that's perfect also. PK not signing is probably in the best interest of team success. PR on the otherhand... QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Source: "I talked to Paulie last night and he said the Sox were his priority unless they made an offer that disrespected him.'' - Cowley KW on PK: "I'm still hopeful, but I'm less hopeful now." and "I want the man back, but you don't always get what you want." - Ballantini There is no way the Sox offered less than $36 million over three years (no info, just speculating). And that rate, the only disrespecting is Konerko demanding more. I would love to see the Sox sign Lee and then see Konerko get a shaft if this is all true about his $15 million mandate. I am just sick of athletes clamoring that they are being disrespected with offers of $10-plus million per year. Please.

Ok. Lee + Wood + 2 picks = a better team than with just Konerko. If by tomorrow, sufficient progress isn't made, KW move on.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 03:06 AM) The fact that Dunn and Pierzynski both deferred money in order to try and get Konerko back, and Konerko still didn't resign, makes me think Konerko is being a big jerk. I'm starting to think "good ridance" to Konerko. It's all negotiations. The Sox and Konerko (Landis) just started talking in-depth Monday because prior to Paul felt it was in his best interest to shop his services. Then Dunn/AJ came back and things changed from his perspective. Negotiations are never simple. Paul doesn't have much leverage here because the market is pretty dry for him, but he and his agent are still playing this slow to try and get the best deal possible.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) jonmorosi Source says #Diamondbacks don't have enough money left to win bidding for Konerko. Barring a late shift, he's going elsewhere. #WhiteSox Thanks JJ!! (although in some respects I think JJ+Lee+picks would be better than Paul, but it will be nice to see Paul retire in a Sox uni).
