  1. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) Are the jackass Illini students really chanting overrated at a team that is not ranked? If that was for Barnes, then that makes more sense. I believe it was for Barnes.
  2. Boozer was just on ESPN 1000, didn't sound like he was going to play tomorrow. Sounded more likely to make his debut against Boston on Friday or Saturday against Houston. Boo, but at least his return is near.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 29, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) I think Quinn is going to end up killing Liddy. Especially after Liddy forged his signature for all of the survelliance stuff. Quinn wants no part of the monster he created with Liddy, and Liddy knows that he can push Quinn because of the secret he has. The scene with Jordan Chase and his first victim was incredibly creepy and intense. His mindf*** thing with her was crazy Yeah what the hell was that about? I was so confused there...

My prediction is that Quinn finds out from Liddy about Dexter's activities, but then sympathizes with him and what he does, not turning him in. I think he also keeps the news from Deb. Quinn has seemed to be more tranquil in recent episodes and I cannot fathom how he won't find out about Dexter via Liddy unless Dexter were to kill Liddy but I don't know how that wouldn't arose incredible suspicion and as far we know, beside being snoopy, Liddy isn't a killer. But I just see an epic confrontation between the two. I have actually loved this year, not as good as last, but still excellent TV.
  5. If we swap Konerko and Dunn for about the same price (which seems likely for the duration of the contracts), I cannot see how anyone could be disappointed on the baseball side of things. Dunn is a much better bet to be productive next year, the following year and the third year in a deal. I love Konerko, but if the choice is Dunn at $12 million per year or Konerko at that same price (let's say give or take $2 million), I am running with Dunn despite how much I love Paulie on a personal level. Before last year's incredible year, Paulie was an average player at his position. Year Team G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2007 CWS 151 549 71 142 34 0 31 90 78 102 0 1 .259 .351 .490 .841 2008 CWS 122 438 59 105 19 1 22 62 65 80 2 0 .240 .344 .438 .782 2009 CWS 152 546 75 151 30 1 28 88 58 89 1 0 .277 .353 .489 .842 He has had a great career here, but at 35 years old when the season starts, I would expect a year closer to an .820 OPS than a .950 OPS. Sentimentality aside, the Sox need the most efficient player for the money and Adam Dunn is definitely that.
  6. Boise State is as good as anyone in the country in a one-game season, but when you have to play a full one, they simply aren't. There is no doubt if they played a National Championship game, they could easily win. But when you play teams that are as good as Nevada almost every week (like in a BCS conference), they would lose thrice at least.
  7. I hate Bama, but I hate Auburn and Cam Newton more. Hell yes!!
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) The Illinois State Championships going on Friday and Saturday down in Champaign. Wheaton Warrenville South, who is ranked in the top 20 in the nation by rivals, can be seen Saturday afternoon. Their QB, future Illini Reilly O'Toole, has 3,000 passing yards, a 75 completion percentage, and 40 TD's against only 2 picks. Seeing him against a defense as awesome as Lake Zurich's will be interesting. I don't know the entire history of Illinois HS football, but I would have to imagine this WWS team is about as good as any team in the state's history. They won by 30+ in the state semifinals!!
  9. There is no doubt in my mind that Derrick Rose is the MVP of the NBA right now. Paul is obviously having a great year, but not as good as Rose. Deron Williams might be D-Rose's biggest competition. Rose is def. in the top five, so my bias probably gives his #1, but I just don't see someone who is playing at an elite level that it more important to his team's success.
  10. He's such a bum. Any amount of pressure on him and he's gone.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) and hotter would work too Oh come on, you don't find her hot in that weird almost emo way?
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) Let me express myself here in a friendly but very firm way towards the Sox brass and even to some of my friends here on Soxtalk: If the White Sox fail to offer arbitration to our free agents to be - especially PK and AJP- and they are allowed to just walk and we don't get at least draft choices- then we have a questionable group in the front office making decisions. We have productive folks who want to win and are great teammates and for some reason we lose sight of their contributions. I would like to see them return, however, I know that sometimes that just isn't going to happen. I have said it before and will continue to express my feeling that we don't value our own people enough. For some reason we seem to think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence ( or in someone elses ballpark). Victor Martines for $50M. That's crazy. Konerko would be a huge mistake, but I don't necessarily think AJ. Konerko would be a reasonable price for one year, so not offering him would be inexcusable. AJ's cost would be a little more questionable. But I think they offer PK arbitration.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) If the rumors have any bit of truth to them, then I'm happy that it appears we have some money to spend. I'll say it again and again, when was the last time the Sox actually signed a top-tier free agent? They don't get involved in a bidding wars in free agency. I refuse to believe we will be a top contender for any of the big boys except Konerko since he is one of own. The Sox MO is try to find free agent bargains, re-sign their own guys and trade for proven talent. They just don't do the big-time free agency thing, which in some respects is good because then you don't become the Cubs and get stuck with horrendous contracts.
  14. Neither?? Sean Lowe circa 2001. I still remember his clutch fake-to-third, throw-to-first pickoff move against the Cubs.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 07:38 AM) Udonis Haslam could be out to the AS Break. Glad the Heat made sure they have depth, oh wait.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baske...0,4842598.story f***. Noah at PF, Asik at C. To be fair, this is a game we are going to lose pretty much regardless so probably best to let Taj rest.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Mid-season 2012? You wouldn't be able to get a bag of peanuts for him if you waited that long. He'd hit FA in 3 months. And Danks is not a top-10 starting pitcher in the AL. More like top-20. Name 10 better than Danks. After eight, I can't make legitimate claims for any being better than him.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) I've been advocating the trading of Danksy since about May now. Not that I wouldn't like to keep him, but we just need cheap assets right now and he makes the most sense to move right now. I would get rid of Jackson if I had to. Danks is a beast, the best pitcher we have, no way in hell I would trade him. The Sox will be able to lock him up with Buehrle's contract off the hands of the Sox after the season. I think the Sox and Danks are going to agree to a 4-year deal worth like $40 million, hopefully this off-season, structured as such: 2011 - $6 million 2012 - $10 million 2013 - $11 million 2014 - $13 million They will sign him reasonably for this year and when Buehrle is gone next year (or signed to a salary considerably less than he is currently making), Danks' salary gets bumped up. The Sox know Danks is the best pitcher they have and won't let him go. Regardless, we have him for the next two years for a relatively low salary (for a top-10 starting pitcher in the AL at least), so I wouldn't entertain any thought of trading him this year. If we still can't sign him, then mid-season 2012, is the first time I would entertain that thought.
  19. Yankees have all the leverage in the world here. They can stay at that offer until Jeter accepts because no team is going to offer more years and more money, and he isn't going to sign somewhere else for a lesser salary just to spite the Yankees. It's ridiculous that $15 million per year isn't enough for an average starting shortstop. If Jeter is worth $15 per year, what the hell is Alexei?
  20. KW trying to get that 2004 AL All-Star team!!
  21. I would love Miggy to come back. So sad when we traded him for Freddy in 2004 even though it turned out well. He would be better than AJ. No contest.
  22. Where do I barf? A guy who will turn 37 midway through the season just shouts disappoint regardless of his stats last year. There a better buy-low options out there that are younger and can play defense.

QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) Knocked out a 1:28:45 half on a long course (13.25 miles; issue was a turnaround was farther than it should have been, we were talking to the guy who ran it after. Everyone's Garmins read between 13.25 and 13.28 miles). Nice job man! What are you training for? Or are you? It probably says back in the thread, but I am lazy.
  24. Derrick just willed the Bulls to victory last night. He came in and just took over. It was awesome to see.
  25. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) Since 2012 is gonna suck for UI recruiting, those two in 2013 could be huge. All indications are that Weber and company are recruiting full steam ahead and appear to be in great shape with both guys. I think the success of this year and next will go a long way in their recruitment. Edit: I guess Illinois is also in the Harris hunt. Have no idea if they're a contender though. Hamilton is gonna don the Blue and Orange. He is a huge Illini fan. Dad committed to Illinois way back when, but had academic issues. Mike Shaw is apparently a big brother figure to him. Parker is definitely going to consider Illinois, and I suspect Illinois will be a finalist for his services, but they will definitely have a huge battle with the big boys of college basketball. He's got it all: smarts, versatility, defensive abilities, can handle the ball, score, good listeners, team player, etc.
