Official Recruiting Thread II
Met Tommy Hamilton and Jabari Parker Friday night. They were at an event my company helped execute. Didn't want to ask them about recruiting. But Jabari is a really really nice guy. Hamilton less talkative, but a big dude. And saw the Whitney Young freshmen, including Jahlil Okafor who is going to be a five-star. Dude is so tall too. I have never seen a team with as much talent as Whitney Young. They have three five-star caliber freshmen/sophomore (Hamilton, Okafor and Paul Turner) who are all 6'7" or bigger. Just not fair.

Ozzie ready for life without Aj and PK
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) There is zero chance the Sox end up with Soriano. I agree. That's not the Sox MO on finding relievers. They are more likely to get a guy who had a down year last year, but a proven track record before it. I don't know if they have signed a reliever the last decade that was coming off a career-best season. Someone will overpay for Soriano and regret it. He had a .212 BABIP last year (second best out of ML pitchers with 60-plus innings), that's out-of-this-world lucky. He will clearly regress. Not saying he won't be good next year, but some team is gonna offer him a 3-year deal worth $10 million per year.

Ozzie ready for life without Aj and PK
Coincidently, I am ready for life without Ozzie. I found this quote hilarious too: Yeah, I guess he learned from saying no to Thome. I have a serious disdain for Ozzie.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) Wow...Lebron just clanked a wide open 3 off of the side of the backboard with a minute left. OVERRATED! If you are saying Lebron overrated, I disagree vehemently. If you are saying the Heat, then yes. Lebron at the end of the day is still the best player in the NBA and I don't care what his statistics show. If we are holding a player draft for today and the future, I will take Lebron without even blinking. Over Kobe. Over Durant. Over anyone. Granted, if it's the fourth quarter, gimme Kobe.

Who is going to be our best starter next season?
I think Gavin has too many mental issues to ever just be awesome. Not saying he is a wack-job, I think he just over-analyzes things out and is too critical on himself. If I were betting, I would Danks continues to evolve into one of the best in baseball.

Will Konerko be in a White Sox uniform come 2011?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 07:40 AM) WHere have you heard that Arizona will go after him? I really don't think they will...they've gone youth/savings this year with the Jackson and Haren trades, tried to load up on young pitching, and they've got options at 1b (LaRoche, who I know they've talked about resigning, and Brandon Allen). It has been reported by Bruce Levine: http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5745666 I am skeptical too about their interest and don't really trust Levine like I did. His source is probably Konerko's agent who is using the media to start the bidding war.

If yes, what type of contract? If no, what team/contract? I'll start yes @ 3 years, $34 million.

Runners Thread
Congrats you guys. I have been getting back into shape after being off running for two months with plantar fasciatis and then having another two months of bad running because I was trying to run through it. Trying to get my mileage up to 50/week by January 1. Eventually, I really want to do an ultramarathon. Probably a 50K to start.

What are your plans for Tank?
He could be a .315/40/100 guy in his prime. Not a great OBP, but will make up for it with high slugging. I could see a couple Vlad Guerrero-type seasons at his peak. He has elite bat speed and will have elite hand strength and lower-body strength once he develops more. Again, he has only been playing professional baseball for two years in the states and has already hit Major League pitching well. There is no telling what he will do when he reaches 25-28 (physical maturity) which is still FOUR YEARS away. I am pretty negative when it comes to most Sox prospects, but he might be the most underrated prospect in baseball. I am serious. In no body's top lists and he is a beast already at 21 in the majors.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 10:33 AM) I noticed it right away when I saw him in the preseason, he's very noticeably slimmer. And seriously I'm just in love with Noah and Rose in a non gay way. LOVE. Noah is my favorite player in the league. Always plays like there is a chip on his shoulder. He will probably deserve an All-Star berth this year. Rose is the consummate superstar. Always about the team, no ego whatsoever and always plays hard. Can't wait til we get Boozer back, it is gonna make this team dynamite. Three All-Star-caliber players. That's when Korver/Deng will be most dangerous when we have that low-post scoring threat to help spread the floor.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (T R U @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 02:59 AM) I wonder how hard Portland is kicking themselves for passing on Durant for Oden.. Which was worse.. Darko over Carmelo or Oden over Durant? Definitely Darko over Carmelo was worst. Oden just hasn't been healthy, and if he were, he probably would be one of the top defensive players in basketball and a double-double machine. Still probably not as good as Durant whom I think is overrated (seriously he shoots 40 times a game, he is gonna score a lot and doesn't play D. LeBron is still the better of the two, and it's not close, IMO). But health has been the reason for the bad pick unlike the Darko pick where Darko was just a bust.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Randle could choose Stanford, and if that is the case, Shaw will be weighing his options more, but my buddy still thins he will choose Illinois. I'm curious what the deal with Shaw is. At first he was rumored to go where Blackshear went and now where Randle could go. Can't the kid think on his own. His best move would be Illinois right now. It's reported recently that the press conference is invite-only, which to me points to him selecting Stanford.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) That would be huge. If he pulls in that kind of class, 2009-2011 have to be the best set of recruiting classes ever for the program. Tons of talent up and down the roster. And then 2012, they will get one guy. But in 2013/2014, they are already making great in-roads in the Illinois player, which will likely be five or six 5-star talents in the classes combined. Scary, the best could still be yet to come.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 11:24 AM) Heard from a good source that he and Shaw to Illinois which would just be massive for Weber. I still think he is going to Stanford, but I won't be pissed about him spurning Illinois because he and his family have gone about the recruiting process the right way. If he goes to Stanford how could anyone blame him? It's not like the Anthony Davis situation where you know stuff went down.

R. Soriano, Fielder, Kemp mentioned in connection w/ Sox
To me it's simple, if we re-sign Konerko, we will be bargain shopping the rest of our need positions. If we lose Konerko, we will get a dabble with some big names, but lose out when we offer half of another team and then be forced to bargain shop. Regardless, we will be bargain shopping, but whether it's be force or choice remains to be seen. I don't feel like we need a huge overhaul as well, but we need about 4-5 solid players to get back to a playoff team. Obviously power at 1st base, two relievers and some two solid bench additions.

Sun-Times and Tribune reporting Mike Shaw to announce Thursday with both having sources that say Illinois. If they can pull Shaw and then nab Randle, that would be an amazing class despite not getting the top two in Illinois (even though Illinois was never really in those recruiting races).
