6/17 Game Thread: PIT @ CWS, 7:11pm CT
More Alexei this inning. He is such a welcome addition because he is just a smart player and it seems like we don't have too many "smart" players and I am talking baseball smart.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Ozzie needs to get Javy out of there. I would definitely not let him face Laroche this inning. Boone and Thorty will be huge this series will the Pirates real good lefties.

Seriously, is Hawk making any sense right now about this plan B s***? I am trying to follow, but am just lost.

The thing that annoys me with Thome is that he makes no attempt ever to hit it to left field or to third base. If he waited back and went opposite field, he could get a hit every time until they took off the shift.

Balk. Thank Alexei for that one.

Alexei gets into the heads of these pitchers when he is on base. He just gets it out there.

Time to put Alexei in motion, maybe even hit and run.

Thome is amazingly bad right now. I do see us scoring tonight, at least 6, so we gotta keep them down. Get Russell warming in the pen beacause we are still in this, but Javy is another bad inning from giving us one s***ty start to the homestand.

BTW, super prospect (or not pending I guess) Juan Silveiro starting at SS for Bristol. 0-1 with an RBI so far.

I would like to see the Sox use a lot of motion this series. OC, Q, Ramirez and Wise can all steal bases and we should put the pressure of Doumit. Doumit has a pretty solid arm, but only throws out 30% of runners, so put the pressure on.

Dewayne Wise is up Paul Konerko to the DL
yeah the move will be retroactive to Sunday. But wow, I mean Wise has some speed, a solid lefty bat, but I thought that JO or Eldred would have got the call. Kina surprising. But say hello to Brian Anderson in CF for the next week. We'll finally get to see if he can cut it as an every day player. Wise will probably get some starts against tough righties, but it's BA's time to shine. I just hope Ozzie doesn't put Alexei in CF and keep Juan at second. IMO, Juan deserves to ride the pine and Alexei should stay at second the rest of the year.

Steve Phillips: World Class Idiot?
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) Teams are struggling on the road because they can't take amphetamines anymore according to Phillips. Others have said this as well. It's not that far-fetched, on the road, you are tired, jet lagged, you need something to get you "energized."

Steve Phillips: World Class Idiot?
The Sox starters are very good, but they are not the best in the league. No way. I don't care what the ERAs say or what not, but when you are relying on two guys who haven't pitched full seasons yet, you can't be considered the best. I think Floyd and Danks are really good, Danks is really really good, but they are young and still gonna have lumps and bruises, i.e. Danks inability to pitch deep in ball games. Contreras is 36 (if not older), so you still got some questions. They are good, but not the best. I would take the Angels starters over anyone. BTW, Cubs startes are overrated, too. Zambrano = stud, but Lilly is a putz, Marquis is not good and Gallagher is young.

Konerko injures rib cage, may hit DL
The media is playing this off like its a huge deal, but why? The guy is horrible right now. Everyone here knows, you throw him a breaking ball, he ain't touching it. He has always been a fastball hitter and now he is barely that anymore. This is a blessing because we actually get someone up who can do something whether a legitimate base stealing threat who can help manufacture runs (Owens) or we get a legit power threat (Fields or Eldred). Then in two weeks, Paulie hopefully is recovered from his hip and hopefully the finger and can be productive the rest of the season.

I am gonna call him Cookie. If he ever got to the majors and got an hanging curve, I can only imagine Hawk saying "Cookie got a cookie."

Jerry Puentes...Future stud prospect?
I am half-kidding and half-serious. I was bored, so I was looking at the DSL teams and ran across the DSL White Sox 2's shortstop Jerry Puentes. He is 16 years old, 6-1 and 170 pounsd, so there is some room to grow, but for a 16 year old, he is not too small. I know nothing about him except his DSL numbers, but they are as follows: .417 BA with 2 SBs and a .921 OPS in 31 at-bats. Anyone have a scouting report? HAHA. Maybe one to keep an eye on. Yes I know, 31 at-bats is way to small of a sample size, but a) I am bored and B) there is not much too exicting about our system so why the heck not? http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=542398

Latin American prospect class
The Sox won't be in on any of these guys, guarenteed. And if that happens, please people don't blame KW because it's out of his control.

Sox 1990 draft produced most all-stars ever with four
http://thebaseballcube.com/draft/teams/1990_7.shtml Alex Fernandez (1st round, 4th overall) Bob Wickman (2nd round, 61st overall) James Baldwin (4th round, 103 overall) Ray Durham (5th round, 129 overall) The only other team to produce four all-stars in one draft was the 1968 Red Sox draft. So maybe our first draft slot in the top 10 will have a repeat performance?

Scotty Pods
I don't know why people would boo? He didn't bad mouth anyone, never was bad to fans and was just not too good his last couple years--injuries had a part. No reason to boo and he was always a class act and probably the offensive MVP of the World Series year.

2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread
There is no doubt the Cubs are going to the playoffs. So in my mind, let them win 100 ball games, so that in the playoffs when they choke, it will be all the more funny. I really don't care about the Cubs, but the Sox are in a funk (like the past three days) or suck completely (last year) my hate for them, their fans and that ballpark escalate infinitely.
