  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/...ested-in-miami/ ER arrested Let's hope he was not being suspected of the DUI. Was looking like he could be a really solid FB for us.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) It's actually pretty similar to the end for Frank Thomas, except the White Sox didn't even bother with a token offer for Frank. I agree, with the lone exception that Frank had a couple of good years left in him, Urlacher doesn't. But you are right with the same dramatic exit; hopefully just like Frank, Brian comes back and is part of the organization post-retirement.
  3. From Rotoworld. Bears did the right thing here. Was not worth really what he was probably asking for. Time to move on.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 10:56 AM) I have no doubt that 670 is waiting for Boers to retire so they can put Bernstein and Holmes together permanently. it's a damn good show. The things about Holmes with Bernstein that I love: 1) Holmes is not afraid to disagree with Bernstein whereas Boers just parrots whatever Bernstein says. 2) Bernstein is less of a douschebag when Holmes is on.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) So their solution is to take the one show on their station people listen to (Waddle & Silvy) and put them up against the most popular show in town. Brilliant. I will take Waddle/Silvy over Boers/Bernstein. But when Boers isn't on and it's Bernstein/Holmes, I would take that over Waddle/Silvy. So many times with B&B, it might as well just be Bernstein.
  6. People only look at who are the studs you've produced, not the guys who round out baseball teams like back-of-the-rotation guys. With a couple exceptions, we aren't producing All-Star caliber players and the rankings pretty much are geared toward that. I love that we are producing solid ML player, but we still need to start producing more Chris Sales.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) That's right. If they play well enough to garner huge contracts, you've had a few nice seasons. And attrition is a huge part of the NFL. It certainly is a great problem to have. Much rather have to worry about how you are going to sign all your young studs in the future than have a ton of cap room and no one on your roster worthy of it.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 13, 2013 -> 08:08 AM) http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/19...21.html?refer=y Looks like the Minnesota Twins are really going to be a threat in 2-3 years...of course, you could have said the same about the Sox 1999-2001 prospect lists. Nice to see the Hawk and Sanchez get some pub, a bit surprised Thompson wasn't somewhere in the 100-150 range as well, as his upside is probably higher than Sanchez still. I don't know about the Twins. They have a good looking system, but really do not have any young cornerstone players. It is asking a lot to hope that all your minor league talent pans out. They are not like the Rays who have a great system with really good young ML talent.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2013 -> 07:45 AM) Coaches have to say that kind of stuff. It doesn't go over well in the lockerroom if the coaching staff is trashing his own players publicly, true or not. I am pretty sure his post was utter sarcasm.
  10. I know we just signed a big-time TE, but if Eifert is the Bears top-ranked player on the board at 20, I still take him. Patriots have proven to top TEs can co-exist. Plus, both are great blockers. Can really do some interesting sets with two TES.
  11. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Is that really the company line? Because I thought it was just common sense. If you're in rebuilding mode, then the short term is meaningless. You can see that the Cubs are going to have enormous payroll flexibility and a top 5 minor league system in the business come 2015, correct? God, it sucks to be them! Nevermind those 100+ years of futility... They have one cornerstone player right in Castro, and it reamins to be seen what his future holds. That's it. So even if their farm system is good, there is no guarantee of anything. The Sox had the #1 farm system in baseball in 2000 and an insanely young and talented roster. Those teams did squat.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) The one that surprised me was Tekkote is Ta-Cody. I have been going with Tea-Cot.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 9, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) Gillaspie interview http://chicago.cbslocal.com/?podcast_url=h...mp;dcid=CBS.CHI That dude does not sound 25 years old.
  14. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) This deal is a steal. Kind of surprised Sale signed for so cheap. He was on sale...I couldn't resist.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) Speigel said today it looks like Waddle and Silvy will be moving up a slot (with Carmen and Jurko, or one of the two), and Cowherd will be syndicated in their midday slot. Speigel said it best, lazy ESPN programming decision Yikes. ESPN is all network from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m.?? That's sad...really sad.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) But also takes an OL off of the free agent market and leaves other teams 1 fewer option to sign. Bears were not gonna be able to afford a Albert-type player in all likelihood.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) Stevie J was out doing some recruiting on Bowe, but I'm OK with the Bills not signing him. He is like the most enigmatic WR in the entire NFL. He is a top 5-10 talent sometimes and there are other times you wouldn't even know he was out there. Maybe Reid can get some more consistency out of him. Obviously having Matt Cassel throwing to him didn't help matters. If they franchise Albert, they almost have to be looking pass rusher #1, don't they? They can trade down too, but they'd have to be willing to accept something really, really small to trade down (which wouldn't be a bad idea anyways). Great news potentially for the Bears. Pushes all the OL down one spot.
  18. Jared Cook a free agent. GIMME. Probably the most athletic TE in the league. 25 years old.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 09:40 AM) This has been my issue with Mac. I don't need to hear about what cool famous people hang in your awesome basement, or who you get to golf with, or what awesome free tickets you scored. Mac's prevalent discussions of athletes' male genitalia is also very creepy...
  20. The best talk show host in Chicago is Lawrence Holmes in my opinion. Bernstein is annoying but it a good way where you want to listen to him. Boers is a putz and just an idiot who is hard pressed to make coherent thoughts and usually ends up parroting Bernstein. My ideal show would Bernstein and Holmes. I love Waddle & Silvy, but CJH was garbage. Jurko brings nothing to the table except in football knowledge. Too often jokes around instead of giving real thoughts. I didn't hate Harry, but he really did not bring much. Carmen is good, but was not a good fit with those two. If I am ESPN, I bring in Lawrence Holmes for the afternoon drive. I actually think he and Carmen could be a good team.
  21. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) The real problem is what kind of asshat cop pulls you over for going 11 over on the highway. Probably racial profiling.
  22. Baseball Prospectus' Top 101 Prospect List https://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=19694 No White Sox players. Though this note on Hawkins: Really don't know what to make of this. If you believe them, then scouts are very skeptical about Hawkins.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) Carlos Lee, Paul Konerko. They haven't really had many decent prospects in a while though either. They've had Konerko in there for close to 15 years now, and they've done a pretty good job of finding good replacements in those spots for about 8 years now too. You hope Thompson can develop the sort of contact ability to hit .250, because he could hit 30+ homers with that sort of average, and then you hope Hawkins develops really nicely too. Konerko really wasn't developed by the White Sox in the true sense like Carlos or Maggs. He was traded to us and inserted into the Sox lineup as a youngster.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) 33/36 35/38
  25. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) 40 times have to be the dumbest thing in football. T'eo was always gonna be a late first round or early second round pick. I don't think they are dumb, but it is imprudent to overvalue 40-times. Straight-line speed is important for some positions: corners, WRs and safeties to an extent. But even for the positions where 40-times are important, again they can't be the only factor to look at.
