  1. I think Luck is going to finish third in the race. On sheer numbers, RGIII and Wilson are the top two. RGIII is the better choice number wise from Wilson, too, with terrific passing numbers in addition to the running numbers. But what Luck has done in taking a 2-14 team to possibly 11-5 is amazing and probably is more impressive than passing numbers. But I think those types of statistics are tangible and that is usually what writers vote based on of.
  2. I think it is kind of stupid on the dentist's part. I mean, if he can't control himself around her, that is demonstrative of his problem not hers. But I suppose if women get hired for many jobs because of their looks, it is only natural that their looks can equally work against him. While I don't find anything legally wrong with what he did, I think it is a pretty stupid reason. Why couldn't the dentist tell her to just wear less revealing and less tight clothing? I also just saw her picture from the article. That is "irresistibly attractive"? Yikes...I mean she is not bad looking, but looks to have a really fake tan.
  3. I am not sure if this is the kind of discussion you meant, but I believe the Constitution is a living and breathing document and should be interpreted as such. The Framers of the Constitution could not have possibly imagined what society would look like today and interpreting the Constitution with a strictly originalist view is, to me, kind of asinine. Perhaps on some issues, looking at the Framers' intent is helpful to discern underlying values in the our society at the time, but to use 18th values in shaping the fabric of society in 21st Century America just doesn't make much sense to me.
  4. Nice to see Hinrich finally having a good game. Bulls also as a team doing some very nice work.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Watching the Bulls, and especially Nate Robinson, this evening, was surprisingly enjoyable. It helps when everything goes right. You may not enjoy it for too much longer. If this is true, I just don't know what to say. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baske...story?track=rss
  6. Hinrich with another solid line going tonight against Boston. Thibs really needs to increase his minutes.
  7. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 01:07 AM) No official word on this yet? I haven't seen anything and he's still on the 40-Man. I don't know who TDog is but he has posted minor league news (I think promotion-type stuff) before it was reported by the media. He knows his stuff. He could even be a minor league player.
  8. Nice to see Gimenez, Sanchez and Santiago all playing well. Gimenez is probably our back-up catcher, Santiago is gonna battle for the 5th spot and Sanchez will be ready if Bacon or Keppinger struggle.
  9. Meanwhile, the Rays stockpile more prospects for their farm and still have a deep rotation, full of young studs to choose from.
  10. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) I really hope the Illini can finish non-conference play undefeated and be riding high going into Big Ten play. Be interesting how they look next year with Groce first recruiting class and no Brandon Paul. Rayvonte Rice should be a nice, double-digit scorer immediately for them.
  11. QUOTE (floridafan @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) Two years for Grabe to move through the ranks. I like the Kepplinger deal, we saw a fair bit of him in the Florida market. A solid player. Glad he is older! If Grabe can come close to what he did in his debut season at subsequent levels you guys will learn his name. OPS over 1.000 against lefty's and over .900 against righty's. He has played 3rd his whole life, with stints at short. Power will be there by ST. Grabe was a 23-year-old dominating Rookie Ball. His sick numbers were also in a very small sample size. I would love Grabe to explode as a prospect, but let's be realistic here. He needs to demonstrate solid statistics at an age-appropriate level over a full season before he would even crack the Sox's top-30 prospect list, let alone be considered a future starter.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) The way it stands now, one could argue the Sox roster has more talent than what the Yankees will open 2013 with. Jeter and A-Rod are both out. EDIT: Would be more accurate to say... talentless 3B depth chart in the Sox organization. Whoever that "one" is might need to get his head checked then.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 2, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Gordon hit 16 HRs and drove in 61 last year. Not TOO shabby. If he didn't mix in two separate months of unserviceable baseball, there would be nothing to complain about I hate that argument. That's like saying, if you take away pitcher X's three really bad starts, his numbers are pretty good. Well, you can't and a ton of hitters/pitchers have bad months or starts that affect their statistics.
  14. Love this quote in the article: Granted, it comes from within the organization, so you have to take it for what it's worth. But I really like that he is so good defensively. So he could come in and be very valuable on defense, while he learns the MLB aspects of hitting.
  15. https://twitter.com/eddymk/status/274002880934080512 Looked real good until 2010. Then had a solid year in 2011. Then sucked in a month of A-ball last year. Maybe the Sox are tying to find Donnie Veal II, but this guy looks lost.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 22, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) Maybe he finds himself and does what you are saying, but I really doubt the Sox are counting on him to do anything but catch in Charlotte. At this point, it's him or Phegley, so it's not that far outside the realm of possibilities. I hope we get a veteran in here for cheap, because I wouldn't trust either of those guys. Actually I guess we still have Hector Gimenez, so he is probably the favorite for the back-up job as the roster currently stands.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) They are really anticipating losing AJ. With Hahn at the helm, I would not be surprised that the organization uses more statistical analysis than ever in making roster decisions. AJ = 2.6 WAR in 479 at-bats TFlo = 1.0 WAR in 136 at-bats Extrapolating out Flowers' WAR to AJ's playing time = 3.5 WAR. Just saying. And that was with AJ having his best year ever and with Flowers' not ever getting in a routine because of limited at-bats. The advanced stats really like Flowers.
  18. Anderson bats left-handed, so this may be the guy who takes some of the at-bats against right-handed pitchers from Flowers (assuming no AJ). Was once a highly thought of prospect.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) Let me ask you this, what has JorDanks done that tells you his ceiling is higher? Danks's career minor league OPS is .746, Wise's is .726. I think the org wants depth and depth that has shown they can perform at the MLB level. Thats all. 700k is not a large number. Yeah, Jordan Danks is 26 years old and has nothing to show he is better than Wise nor has he shown he is anything more than a reserve OF. Wise is a better hitter for average, power and better on the basepaths. Sure, Danks is probably better in the field, but Wise is no slouch. For 200K extra, Wise is a much better option. And the fact that Danks went unclaimed during the Rule V Draft last year should tell you something about his game and what every other MLB team thinks of it.
  20. Regarding Sanchez leading the AFL in SBs. What's most impressive besides the sheer number is that he was playing in the same league as Billy Hamilton.
  21. As someone who is Jewish, this whole situation concerns me. The Muslim extremists will stop at nothing to kill Israelis and destroy the entire Jewish race there. Meanwhile, you have the stubborn Israelis who refuse to give up any land. It's just a bad situation, where no one is right.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 05:36 PM) Miami's chances of signing any big free agent is gone for a long time. You gotta wonder why if a player signs such a long deal, they don't make sure that a no-trade or at least partial no-trade clause is included.
  23. Main reason I don't buy it: OF is not a position of weakness. Viciedo-De Aza-Rios was a great OF for us last year. Furthermore, still have Dunn as the DH and Konerko at 1b, so not like Dayan would move to DH. Also, De Aza posted nearly identical numbers to Pagan and is three years YOUNGER and costs probably at least 1/10 what Pagan will be making next year.
  24. QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 11:05 PM) Unless Peavy is winning 20 next year, he better not be the biggest move. Then you will most likely be disappointed this off-season. We are already at close to a $100 million payroll for next year. https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tK7...amp;output=html Not sure where you think a bigger move that signing a top-10 pitcher comes from. Trading Floyd will certainly not bring anyone more valuable than Jake. Nor will trading any of our prospects.
  25. Don't you mean "second" big move? We already signed to a two-year extension a top-10 pitcher in the AL...
