Here is the cap breakdown of the Asik deal: Kinda interesting that it's different for the teams.

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) Taj plays a different position than Asik, lol Why do people keep saying don't match? You realize we lose him for nothing then right? Are you guys happy to lose a guy we drafted and developed, who has tremendous value in todays NBA, for nothing? I hope our GM isn't this shortsighted There aren't many true Cs in the NBA. In games against the Dwight Howards of the world, not having Asik hurts. But not many teams have 7-foot centers. Most nights having Taj play against the team's 5 is fine. And Asik is awful. He plays solid D because of his height. But cannot hit FTs. Picks up way too many fouls. And has no offensive game whatsoever. He turns the ball over a ton. Doesn't pass well. He is incredibly overrated.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) Asik averaged 14.7 minutes a game. Let him go. Those minutes can be covered. Giving Taj those minutes doesn't really hurt us on D, but only helps us offensively. This offer sheet is a blessing in disguise.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) I've got to figure the Bulls will do everything they can to make some sign and trade magic happen here. Courtney Lee would not solve the Bulls 2-guard woes, but he would be a nice guy to have.

Gamethread: Sox vs Yanks 7/1/12
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) Do you really think that very many people come into the bigs and actually know that? Hell, just thinking about guys in this game, Robinson Cano didn't know that, Curtis Granderson didn't know that (dude struck out 174 times in his first full year). Yes.

Well Septimo looks like a keeper at least. Not an easy situation to be placed in with Granderson and Teixeira and two pitches later, inning over.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) When Paul Konerko was 23 he didn't have this good of an approach. And, when Paul Konerko was 23, he had 2232 minor league PA's under his belt. Viciedo had 1299. He's played baseball all his life. He knows better than to swing as hard as he can every time. He is having a solid year for his first full MLB season, but it doesn't excuse the fact that he is often very selfish at the plate many times. Thursday night swinging for the fences in that situation was fine, but he takes that approach nearly every time.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Paulie is a good hitter. Viciedo is just a hacker, he's in the Adam Dunn mold I fear. Except Dunn still gets on base at a very good clip. Dayan hacks, but doesn't walk.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) It's an invalid excuse. Show me that you can f***ing learn and improve. It's one thing to have a bad K to BB ratio as a youngster, but swing as hard as you can every time out? That's just selfish. All he wants is HRs. He has FIVE doubles this year.

Tank is just having awful at-bats again.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) Most Sox pitchers pitch a lot better when they pitch at a brisk pace. Less thinking, more doing.

Gamethread: Sox vs Yanks 7/1/12
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) I just fear we're destined to watch this kind of frustrating streakiness his entire career. He just has no approach at the plate except swing as hard as he can every time. There are times for that, but not always. Paulie is a great example of knowing when to swing hard and when to just swing for placement.

Please allow Omo to start the inning. I am sick of watching Floyd put on three base runners an inning.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) The offer is 4-58, which comes out to $14.5 mil a year. That's basically the going rate for a remotely competent big man. And they just drafted a pure C in the lottery. WTF are they doing.

Peavy named to All Star Team
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) All pitchers? Hmmm... Honestly though, why was Peavy not on the team to begin with? He's top 5 in WHIP and ERA I believe (if not top 6). I don't think I'll vote, I'd rather let Jake rest the entire time. I think this rest stuff is overrated. It's one inning -- if he even pitches as the last guy selected. If he can't pitch one All-Star inning, he is gonna break down anyway by September.

Peavy Starts
Probably just your typical rest day on a day game after a night game. I wouldn't worry. AJ and Peavy are just real high intensity guys and sometimes guys like that just butt heads.

6/29/12 GT: Sox at Yank$
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) Hawk Harrelson @NotHawk Youk is probably just taking a huge dump. Nothing to worry about. ^ This was 10 min ago, how creepy. I laughed hardcore when I heard it was food poisoning because of his tweet.

I start Omogrosso next inning. Don't want a guy to make his ML debut with runners on. Q clearly doesn't have it tonight. Let the fresh arm get the 5th inning.

Omogrosso gets the call-Bruney to DL
Blessing in disguise. We know Bruney is not a Major League-caliber pitcher from his past. Maybe Omogrosso is. He has been dealing in AAA and perhaps, most importantly, has great stuff but doesn't walk batter.

Omogrosso gets the call-Bruney to DL
If true, in Omo's last 21.2 innings, he's given up 15 hits, and a 29/1 K/BB ratio.

Maybe Crain back to the DL?

The Next Four
That 2000 team just had every frickin hitter with a plus-.800 OPS. Man that team was loaded offensively.
