Jason Frasor Traded to Jays
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) Let's get the vitriol going. keithlaw keithlaw It's a win-now-fire-sale! RT @MattKDeMello: @keithlaw Why are the Sox going into fire sale mode & not getting anything worthwhile in return? 3 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply He clearly doesn't like the Sox, but what is there really to like about the organization right now?

Jason Frasor Traded to Jays
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Just have much more confidence when we target/acquire other teams' players than drafting/projecting/developing our own guys. That area of the scouting department always seems to do a much better job, for whatever reason. We just said the same thing. And that is definitely true. But we seem to do better with former top prospects who have faltered. So the one SD guy seems the best bet. The other guys have never been top prospects, so I really wouldn't expect much for them.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) You sure are confident that the majority of the Sox farm system will pan out. Considering the Sox track record of producing adequate major league contributors via the farm, I think you should lessen your expectations a bit. To be fair though, the White Sox's best area of scouting is minor league scouting. They certainly can't draft, but their minor league scouts do tend to give solid recommendations on guys who could have an impact with the Sox.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) Disagree. One of the two guys from the Padres, and possibly Marinez from the Marlins, will stick with big league team before July 31st. We just opened up another spot in the pen with the Frasor move. As far as defining impact, Hernandez could evolve into the Matt Thornton role quite easily. That LH reliever slot in the 7th-8th inning is plenty impactful, IMO. Get the general point...let's just see how the next 24 months play out and then we can argue about all of these guys, including Zach Stewart. Matt Thornton gave us three years as arguably the best left-handed reliever in baseball. That ain't an easy role to fill.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) The kid we got from the Padres has all the ability in the world to be a B+ or better, just like Molina. You start the Futures Game, that means everyone is baseball is aware of your existence. Trayce Thompson has all the ability in the world to be a A prospect. Most of these guys are professional baseball players because they have that potential.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) Knew that one was coming, lol. Where's j4l with his take today, watching NFL or sleeping off the weekend still? I sincerely hope we can't still be the worst MLB farm system in the game at this point. Let's hope we can progress to 25th-27th. We've loaded up on C/C+ prospects. That really can't move a system that much, really at all.

The other side of rebuilding, for your consideration...
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 12:00 PM) Doesn't the phrase "Sustained excellence" require that you also compete in 2012? Because otherwise you're not "Sustaining" excellence, you've taken a year off from it. Well we haven't had "excellence" since 2008 (and that required a one-game playoff and we didn't even win 90 games), so we couldn't possibly be taking a year off from it. The goal is sustained excellence in the future, and the only way to do that was to tear this ship down and get talented prospects via the draft, trades and foreign free agency. We are going to be in the same position in next year's off-season as this year off season where we came off another disappointing with a fickle, trigger-happy GM. I am all for three years of horses*** baseball in order to rebuild a barren farm system and get these horrible contracts off the books. We cannot have sustained excellence without a fruitful minor league system.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) I really hope this is some weird satire. If you are this convinced that you like the friend and you absolutely need to ask her out, then you are not "supremely convinced there is a long-term future" with your current girlfriend. If you were that certain about you current girlfriend, you would focus on dating her and not be so concerned with other dating possibilities. There are always going to be more "fish in the sea". For me, I'm sure there are other travel-lusting, conservative, cute girls out there that I could date, but I don't spend a second wondering about them because I actually like my current travel-lusting, conservative, cute girlfriend and am actually supremely convinced of my long-term future with her. Also consider that if this friend knows you well, she surely knows you have a girlfriend. And unless she's a complete harlot and an idiot, she's not going to think fondly of you trying to jump her bones while still jumping someone else's bones. It's not exactly an admirable quality that normal, sane people look for in their lovers. Do what you want. But realize that these considerations mean you do have doubts about your current relationship. And if you decide to carry through on asking this other girl out, you need to break up with the current one first. It just wouldn't be fair to her. Typing error. That was definitely meant to say NOT supremely convinced...Probably need to re-read my posts before I post.

Relationship Advice Thread
Here's question concerning my predicament. So I have been going out with this girl for about three months. I like her, but I am supremely convinced there is a long-term future. There is another girl that I am friends with that I would like to ask out, who I think I would like better than my current GF. But since I still do like my GF, if I got rejected by the other girl, I would probably still want to continue going on with my current GF. What do I do? I know I need to ask out my friend, but do I do I have to breakup with my current GF to do that? Or can I go on one date (assuming she said yes) with the new girl and see how it goes, then break up with her if the date went well? I just don't want to cheat on my current GF.

8/16 games
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) Axelrod has quietly had a very nice season. I know the Padres cut him loose. Is he at all a prospect as a fourth or fifth starter -- or middle reliever? His minor league numbers are terrific, so he definitely profiles as a starting MLB pitcher. However, his mediocre stuff would indicate he is a back-of-the-rotation starter. But all he has done in the minors is dominate, so some guys production simple belie their talents. Maybe he is one of them. Greg Maddux never overwhelmed anyone with stuff. Not saying Axelrod is Maddux, but others have proven that production isn't always about talent.

AJP to DL w/ fractured wrist
Sample size isn't huge, but Flowers has a 3.00 cERA. We know we can't lose anything arm-related. And Tyler knows how to take a walk and hit for power. I really don't think this is much of a loss. We do lose some leadership with AJ, that's for sure, but in tangible production, this isn't that big a loss.

Sale to Start Next Year?
And I am moron, can a mod change the title to "Sale to Start Next Year?" and not "Sox to..."?

Sale to Start Next Year?
From his ESPN.com profile. I don't know where they got this information, but I have not seen that from the Sox anywhere. It brings up a great debate though. He has shown to be a lethal weapon out of the pen, most definitely a top-five lefty reliever in baseball. He and Santos are a terrific 1-2 punch in the 8th and 9th inning. However, what he could potentially bring to the rotation is intriguing. Personally, I love him in his role now, but realize as a starter, he makes more of an overall impact. He is as close to Randy Johnson as there has been since RJ retired. But he probably won't keep his velocity as a starter, and I wonder how much of an impact he could make next year as a starter. When it's all said and done, I want him in the rotation, which brings about a ton of other questions because then you have: Peavy Humber Sale Mark (possibly) Danks Floyd Stewart Should be interesting though. What is your guys' take?

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (since56 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) Flowers and Lillibridge both in the starting lineup. Both came over from the Braves in the Javier Vazquez trade right. Maybe that trade was ok after all. They both have the exact same OPS, too. .841.

Top 20 candidates for a GM job
Hahn isn't going to take any job, too. There are only a few I think he would take: White Sox, Cubs, Cardinals, Brewers as the main ones. Maybe Minny, Detroit and KC, too. He wants to stay close to Chicago.

Where are the Sox....
QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 06:04 AM) Why is this topic continuously brought up? I feel like we all know the situation. It is ubiquitous on this board, but it's brought up because Ozzie's arrogance and stubbornness of playing him in the lineup every game will likely cost us the division. While he still needs some PT, he never should start against a lefty and should never be batting third or fourth.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) Clay Matthews played the second half of last season with a stress fracture in his lower leg. Hopefully he stays healthy all year. Hopefully he doesn't...as a Bears fan. I love reading that though. What a gamer.

The Toronto Cheat Jays?
White Sox most definitely cheated back in the day with a light on the scoreboard. It was Joe Nossek (sp?) who was known as the "Eye in the Sky."

1st place by Labor Day
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) I don't mind positivity. Even though there's no logic that accompanies it. This reminds me of when the little black kid from Angels in the Outfield kept saying "it could happen." Why? There's no reason why. It could just happen.

1st place by Labor Day
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) It really hasn't been a piss-poor year, though. It was a piss-poor 22 game stretch, and then a slightly-better-than-mediocre 3+ months after that (89 win pace over the last 80 games). The Sox have the fifth highest payroll in Major League Baseball, and as of today, they are three games under .500. I don't know how this has been anything but a piss-poor year.

2011 Minor League Catch-All Thread
Addison Reed is John Sickels' Prospect of the Day More at the link Says Reed has one of the best sliders in the minors. That is great to hear! Also as a sidenote, the Guillen kids are the most pretentious, inane kids I have ever seen with the exception of Jr. Just keep your damn mouths shut. What the f*** has Ozney Guillen accomplished in professional baseball? Oh yeah, no body even drafted him last year.

Oney versus Valentine
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) Honestly, Valentine's tweet is the issue here. Ozzie at least has a World Series title, and Bobby Valentine clearly called him out with his tweet. I know it's the flavor of the millennium to rip on anything Oney Guillen, but in this case Valentine needs to be more diplomatic, given he's not just some nutty sportscaster, he is a former manager of the game. You just don't talk about other managers like that... there's a code. If Valentine wasn't already blackballed from the league comments like this will cement that status. Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Bobby V was wrong here with the way he worded the comment. But also Oney is just a turd.
