The GREAT Daniel Hudson
QUOTE (jenksfart @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) Why is hudson so great? Where is a GIO Gonzalez thread? Gio >>>> Hudson We actually got a decent return if you compare the swisher trade. Edwin Jackson(Zach Stewart, Unloading of Teahens contract) >>> 2008 Swisher(Wilson Betimit, Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez) A gio gonzalez tracker would be more appropriate. Hudson has a near 4 era in the NL. Who cares about that guy? I don't think anyone would disagree with you about Gio>Hudson. But Hudson is still young with great peripherals. He is gonna be a stud, and we would have had him for a long time for very little money.

The GREAT Daniel Hudson
So I saw Hudson had a twitter, so I decided to tweet him that Sox fans wish he was still on the roster. He actually replied back:

1st place by Labor Day
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Come on guys, we have seen this act time and time again this year. They get to .500, and then lose a few games. Then, they get back to .500, only to lose a few games. Repeat. They aren't fooling me, and they aren't going to make up 5.5 games in the last two months.

8/7 Games
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 08:14 PM) Kuhn continues to impress. He's adjusted at AAA after a slow start. He's a left-handed bat. And he can play 2b, SS, 3b or LF. at league minium salary, he can be a valuable piece in 2012 or 2013. Yeah with Kuhn and Lillibridge, we have two players who can play every position except catcher (though both are athletic enough to do it in a pinch). That is huge for the team.

Brent Morel
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) I'd say Morel has had considerably less hype than Fields. If nothing else, 3rd round pick versus first round pick. Morel's also hitting .290 since early May. Yes, it's an empty .290, so don't waste my time pointing that out, but his numbers are dragged down by his bad start. If he is hitting an empty .290, what's the point of even using that statistic in an argument? I mean he could be hitting .310 with the same secondary statistics, and he would still be an awful player. Batting average is a pretty poor indicator of really anything anymore in baseball. Morel has been awful this year offensively, but I still feel part of the blame has to be Ozzie's usage of him. Defensively he has been great. But he still has A LOT to improve upon if he is going to be a major league starter, including any semblance of power (11 XBH is putrid), his ability to walk (he would't walk 10 times this year with 600 ABs at his current rate, again deplorable) his base running (beyond his 2-for-6 in SBs, he always seems to make horrible choices on the paths) and bunting. We knew he was going to take some lumps as a hitter in his first year in the Major Leagues, but not this bad. He probably should have been sent down at some point this year, but alas he was the tallest midget at third base in the organization.

Mark Buehrle New Contract
I would love Mark back. Maybe a 3-year deal worth $30 million? I think that is fair for both sides. Mark has made plenty and clearly isn't money-driven, but the Sox also can't afford to just low ball him and insult him. My biggest worry about Mark is his desire to remain here. I think he senses the dysfunction and would probably rather go home to St. Louis where the likelihood of winning is higher and he won't have to deal with the shenanigans of this organization.

An Open Letter to the White Sox
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) Hahn for GM and Ryno for manager in 2012. Thats what I would do. That is my preference, too. Sadly, I cannot see JR cutting ties with both guys.

An Open Letter to the White Sox
My biggest fear about all of this comes from the first page where Rock and DA both talk about their renewal of season tickets. Next year will probably be even worse with regard to attendance. I would have to imagine the Sox see a appreciable dip in season tickets sold next year, which will be reflected in payroll, which means a team already six games under .500 might be worse. It's just the domino affect that many people here have predicted that results in the Sox being s***ty for many many years.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 08:34 AM) If the Patriots are willing to do it, that means it is the right move. And the Bears have the Panthers third-round pick which should be around 65, so giving up what would be a late second-round pick isn't that bad when you have a real early third-round pick, too.

Hey Soxtalk! You just made ESPN Chicago
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) Remember, these guys are on twitter and have email accounts too...I wouldn't doubt that they get stuff on those accounts that should never be typed by any decent human being. That's very true. I am sure they get horrible things sent to them. Heck, everyone had Ozzie's e-mail awhile back. He actually responded to people, too.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) I'm going to put a kabash to any talk of that right now. A, it isn't libel cause he's reporting a quote from someone else. I would like to see a retraction though. I wasn't being serious.

Who wants to sue for libel? I think we could prove it lol

Hey Soxtalk! You just made ESPN Chicago
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) Oh come on Jon Greenburg, you're normally top-of-the-line. Would it be that difficult to put "Edit: Since this article has been published, memebers of Soxtalk.com have contacted me to refute Ozzie Jr.'s claim that their site contains such slanderous and racist material." I think he simply needs to re-write that paragraph and instead of directly quoting, paraphrase the comments to make it more clear.

Hey Soxtalk! You just made ESPN Chicago
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) The more people talk, the more I'm inclined to believe this. Remember, Soxtalk is the main force behind the Oney/Teahen "dispute" lingering. Calling us racists and potential murderers is a good way to discredit us. So Soxtalk in the past few days has been accused of death threats and helped cause (or exacerbate) a bitter Twitter war. Anyone want to come up with some unfounded steroid rumors?
-
Hey Soxtalk! You just made ESPN Chicago
It's clear to me in that quote that Ozzie Jr. is specifically referring to Soxtalk.com as the source of the death threats and bigoted comments -- which of course is patently false. Shame on Mr. Greenberg, that is a clear example where instead of a direct quote, he should have paraphrased to not falsely implicate a website.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) No one's going to listen to a form letter any more than they will listen to a letter if you swear at them. If you want an email to be read, write a polite email, make your points as effectively as you can, keep it civil, educated, and readable. So write the letter in a Bizarro-Ozzie Guillen way.

Hey Soxtalk! You just made ESPN Chicago
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) yes, there is a giant leap from the type of things that are actually said to what this member of the Guillen family is quoted as describing, no one will disagree with that. However, you should also note that there are things posted here that we don't feel compelled to remove immediately that, if they were read by say, a member of the press or a member of the actual team or their family, would really get to them. It's entirely possible that Jr. read something like that and stretched it or interpreted it another way for this quote. That's sorta why we had that whole "Hyperbole" thread discussion. We go through this every year. We don't want to block everyone for everything they say in anger/emotion, but it'd be really nice if people thought through the type of post you're describing there before sending it. But that is the nature of a message board, unfortunately, because there is very little accountability.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) So, is someone trying to contact the writer? jgreenberg@espnchicago.com If anyone wants to write him.

Hey Soxtalk! You just made ESPN Chicago
I don't go into the political forums at all (but I will assume neither does Ozzie Jr.), but in the Pale Hose talk thread, I have never seen anyone insult the Guillen family for anything other than on-field performance and its loony tunes on Twitter. No ones cares about Ozzie's nationality as that has nothing to do with the issues at hand. I don't think anyone cares that Ozzie is Venezuelan or if he were Mexican, or if he were from Bridgeport. The fact is that the people on the site despise Ozzie because of his managing, stupid quotes and moronic son. Furthermore, no one has ever made a legitimate death threat upon Ozzie. Perhaps Ozzie Jr. is reading someone writing, "I wish Ozzie was just gone," as a death threat. But I don't think anyone has made a serious one to which the kind of which Ozzie Jr. is clearly referring. Ozzie Jr. usually appears to me to be the sane, level-headed member of the Guillen clan who actually has a reasonable amount of intelligence, but I don't know what the heck he is thinking with such a misguided and patently false quote.

"If You Want Me Back"
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/08/cent...illen-soto.html http://sports.yahoo.com/video/player/news/...nDepth/26116801 JR is loyal to a fault, but I can see this being Ozzie's undoing. Going to Reinsdorf with such arrogance appears to be a death wish. Well things won't better be Ozzie. We have too much money tied into bad players (Rios, Peavy, Dunn), which will force us to trade our good players (Quentin, Danks, etc.) for minor league prospects this off-season. Next season, we might be awful, so perhaps Ozzie will re-sign before it gets worse.

2011-2012 NHL Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) $5.9? Yeesh. He has to continue producing at elite levels past his prime for it to be a good deal. When he is making 400K less than Jonathan Toews that seems strange to me. I love Sharpy, but that is more than I would have committed to him. Slightly over $5 million seems more reasonable.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Peppers was awesome last year, without a good partner in crime. Imagine how much more dominant he could be if teams had to worry about Osi as well. I thought Izzy was damn good last year. Was apparently the only defensive lineman in the NFL last year to not miss a tackle. Plus he racked up 8.5 sacks.

A response....
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) All of this. Plus I'd like to add a few more key notes. 1.) NOBODY has taken Oney's side. He is pretty much universally despised, whereas Teahen enjoys a great reputation as a kind and funny human being. 2.) Mrs. Teahen (I truly hope it's actually her to further solidify the Teahen family's classy reputation) referred to this as a non-story. That simply isn't the case. It's a story that is due to the repeated childish antics of Oney. 3.) Whether or not Mark was referring to Oney, and I'll believe that he wasn't, the statement was a PERFECT description of the situation of Ozzie and Oney. The funny part is that it was so accurate that Oney himself believed it to about him 4.) For what it's worth, the pictures I've seen show you to be a very attractive woman. Woah woah woah, she's married now, come on...keep your flirtations to the PMs. J/K

A response....
I will re-post what I did in the Twitter thread: Thank you for the words Lauren. That takes a strong person to say what you did. We wish you and Mark all the best in Toronto. As the person who started the thread by posting Mark's tweet, I apologize profusely for insinuating what I did. I hope you and Mark enjoy Toronto, and that Mark has great success (except against the Sox). You guys seem like two genuinely nice people with all the charity work you two do.
