I never realized something about the early 90s Sox
Helps when you hit on instant, big-time talent in the draft in the first round: 1990: Alex Fernandez 1989: Frank Thomas 1988: Robin Ventura 1987: Jack McDowell

And that's a White Sox winner !
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) Wise is a better pick up than Ichiro. Should be in the lineup on a somewhat regular basis from here on out. Where is he gonna play when Paulie is back? I am fine with him playing every so often.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:18 AM) ...None of whom have played an inning for our DSL team, not one inning. Those guys are already Sox products though on the DSL Team, so these new signee wouldn't have been on the team beforehand.

Blue Jays vs White Sox 6:07 PM
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) He f***ed himself over today. That 3rd inning was completely his fault. I know he shouldn't need to be flawless, but mistakes are mistakes. Two runs in eight innings?!!?!?!?!?! That is a 2.25 ERA. He is blameless tonight, this is on the pen and the offense.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 01:03 AM) I don't see it with Sanchez either. He could be a decent MLB player, but I'm not convinced of that. If he plays second base, he becomes a four-tool player. Very good D, SS arm at 2B, ability to hit for average and speed. That's pretty solid for your second baseman. I am obviously higher on him than you, but I just think he has that "it" quality. Granted, been burned before with similar guys like Sweeney and Reed.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) what's the scouting report on Sanchez as a fielder? Might be time to promote Veal. He has pitched well and we need a lefty who can get outs in the pen. This is from John Sickels:

Oakland A's @ Chicago White Sox
Surprised they didn't give Danks another start after the HR.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 11:03 PM) Kevin Goldstein @Kevin_Goldstein Can really hit, but VERY few secondary skills. RT @samelladad1: @Kevin_Goldstein how about wsox 2b prospect carlos sanchez? any info? Having just turned 20, should he really have those secondary skills yet? From everything about him pre-season, he was very solid defensively. I mean what does Goldstein want from the dude. Has a very solid walk rate for a guy so young. Solid speed. Little power, but he doens't project to hit more than 10 HRs.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) No Cutty tonight, no Urlacher, no Peppers :/ With the wet field, I am actually glad about this. Not worried about Cutler or Peppers, but Urlacher's mysterious absence is very worrisome. Looking forward to seeing Evan Rodriguez and Alshon Jeffrey tonight.- 2012-2013 NFL Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) Not this s*** again http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8250901/...s-usain-bolt-40 It's not really s***. Bolt isn't a great starter and the 40-yard dash is very different than a 100-meter sprint. I think an in-prime Chris Johnson would certainly have a shot. Now, 100 meters, no way in hell. Bolt is the fastest human ever. But Bolt doesn't really separate from the pack until mid-way through the race .- 8/8 Games
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) Sanchez, Rienzo and Keenyn all keeping up their awesomeness. And definitely nice to see Hector starting off solid in Charlotte as well. next year's rotation: Sale Liriano Quintana Danks Santiago ALL LEFTIES!!! Haha. But in seriousness, I am glad they are stretching out Hector, more value as a starter. Sanchez's BABIP is unsustainable, but the guy just must have a knack for hitting. When he ripped that James Tallison 99-MPH fastball down the line for a 2B in the Future's Game, that showed me the kid just has a knack for hitting. Also love the fact that Walker/Sanchez get promoted and play better at the higher level. Definitely a great sign. Walker/Sanchez could very well be our 1-2 combo in two years.- 8/6 Games
Sanchez just turned 20 years old and already is walking at a 53-per-162-game season clip. Whereas Escobar couldn't hit a lick, Sanchez is proving he can while also showing solid patience at the plate. The guy has a very bright future, most likely at second base where he can be an above-average offensive second baseman. He seems like a perfect leadoff or number two hitter.- 8/6 Games
Barnum back and looking good. Sanchez continues to rake, three more hits today.- The Dark Knight Rises thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) LOL - this is a definitively stupid statement. You can't claim fact based on opinion. It's just like how some people love deep dish and some people love thin crust. Saying one is definitively better than the other is inane. It's personal taste and opinion, and no one has the exact same taste on things.- Another shooting
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) You can die in a car wreck every time you drive, cant live afraid. While that's true, when you see these attacks you can't help but wonder where the next one will be. I mean I ride the "L" all the time and there is so little security on there that anyone whack job could do some real bad damage.- Another shooting
We lived in a f***ed up world. This sikhism religion preaches peace and social justice. I am curious as the race of people here, probably more white male radicalists.- 8/4 games
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) Eric Grabe continues to impress in rookie ball. Last 10 games... 13 for 32 with 6 extra base hits. Currently leading all Sox minor league players in BA, OBP, and SLG. He will be 23 years old in three days. So he should be kicking butt.- 2013 Rotation
QUOTE (johnnymick @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) Since 2008, he has given us at least 185 innings with an ERA lower than 4.4 every year. There is value in having a guy like that in your rotation. It is not easy to find someone to pitch those innings that well. Just look to when we had no 5th starter in the first few years of the 2000s. He is just frustrating to everyone because he has ACE stuff, but never can figure out how to be more than a back-of-the-rotation starter. You're right though, he has tremendous value as a 4 or 5, but with his salary at $10 million next year, it's money that probably can be better spent.- White Sox Rumor Catch-All
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) That's downright A+ reporting Laurence. Ha. I like Holmes as a radio host. He does really good solo and with a partner. Makes The Score listenable. But that is the most vague Twitter post anyone could write. If the Sox make a move, he had the "scoop." If they don't, then they worked the phones, but couldn't bring in another piece. Might as well say, "Sox may make another move, or may not."- Dave Cameron on Kenny Williams' style
KW is at his best when he has to pinch pennies and not when he is given a big payroll. It's counterintuitive but true.- Sox land Liriano
It's amazing how much quality talent we have acquired the past month and I haven't shed a single tear about the players we've given up. Usually KW gives up too much because of his overaggressiveness, but this year, he is killing it.- Sox land Liriano
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) Really doubt it, he's struggled a lot this year. He's been much better of late. He walks a ton and steals a lot of bases. Offensively, he is better than EE. Defensively, I don't know enough about him, but probably pales in comparison.- Sox land Liriano
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) I don't know. There are no position players currently on the 40 that can be brought up, but this was a 2-for-1 deal so there is now a spot open on the 40. We still have Morel. And he can definitely play SS. - 2012-2013 NFL Thread
