  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:02 AM) I have been napping all night, so this is brand new to me. I haven't read any of this thread yet, but I assume this means we re-sign Dye for DH. I do not like that. I don't see it that way. From my understanding if Dye would have been moved he would have had his 12m automatically picked up, so to move him the Sox would probably of had to eat a ton of that contract next year. He'll play the month out and file for FA, Sox won't offer him arb. and he and Thome will probably both be out there
  2. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:55 PM) we dont really have room for him starting unless we keep hudson in the minors for another year. Hudson is a prospect that has never pitched in MLB. Bringing in Peavy/Danks/Floyd/MB as your first 4 and then a vet (Freddy) or two and some young guys to compete for the 5th sounds good to me.
  3. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:51 PM) That's what Vin Scully says too: The Dodgers also picked up Garland, he just had to walk over to the other dugout. Did he actually do that? that would be wild to see
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) watch - we'll probably go on a run and win the division that would be cool with me, as much as I respect both of them, JT or the Count haven't done much recentally.
  5. next year may be one of the biggest turnovers I can remember in White Sox recent history, and KW has a whole offseason left.
  6. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) The Sox are kicking in salary relief for Thome also, and received a terribly non-prospect. How does that make any sense from any angle? I think some is to free up a spot for Flowers or see how Q, Dye or PK handle a full time DH role. Also, as others pointed out, Thome is a class guy and the White Sox are giving him a chance
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) Dye DHing now, or Quentin? I could see AJ doing some DH'ing and Flowers getting to know the staff a little in September
  8. these trades make me even more shocked the Cubs didn't move Harden or Heilman... they have to be offering arb to Harden because I imagine the Twins were offering something for him, unless it was a pure waiver block of the Tigers
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) I mighta been alittle too happy here.. But I like me some Hynick. I could see why you're down with hit. Coop has had success with guys with good talent that struggled in their original orgs.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) How the heck did we get more for Contreras than Thome. *ANGER* for an NL team Thome is a pinch hitter, for a NL team with some of those terrible lineups, Jose can actually contribute a lot more
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) wonder what peavy's thinking about now...oh well, he probably would've been dealt somewhere anyway. Peavy's probably thinking thank god there's no structural damage to my elbow... he's also thinking he's going to be in a rotation with Danks, Floyd and MB going into next year with a GM and org. who tries to win every year. I highly doubt Peavy made the decision to waive his NTC to come to the White Sox based on this year alone or even as a major reason
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) Starting Freddy doesn't make sense if we're rebuilding though. after Freddy's last 2 starts I'm interested to see how he pitches the rest of the season, and if it's similar I have zero problem with the Sox bringing him back in ST to compete for the 5th starter spot. There's no guarantee Hudson will be ready next year or ever.
  13. is there any word on if these are PTBNL or straight waiver?
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) i'm feeling really bad for Thome right now. you know he said yes because it was what the org. wanted from him even though it meant a sacrifice of his own playing time. not many would do the same... He's also doing it because the Dodgers have a very good chance of making the playoffs and the White Sox don't. I respect Thome a ton and he is a class act, but let's not act like he did this 100% for the White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) wow.. major props to Soxbadger who called this on AIM (NL team). Contreras moving from a hitter's park to.. a hitters park. Yeah, but I get the Rockies rolling the dice on him. If he's on his fork ball is dominating and it's a K pitch or a pitch that hitters can't square up and drive. I wouldn't be shocked if he contributes.
  16. wow, I'm suprised Thome to the NL... I've heard about the routine he has to go through to get ready for a game. That's going to be tough to do daily and maybe not play
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:18 PM) Birmingham Game 2 Viciedo with a 2nd inning HR. I don't care what anyone says, I have no problem with the season he's had. At 20 years old in AA, he's been great. I agree, especially considering the Sox have him for the 6 years and not just the 4 or whatever his contract is for.
  18. he was such a class act and I hope whatever team he goes to wins the WS
  19. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) My money is on the Texas Rangers. Seems like a Nolan Ryan type of move. This makes sense to me, I'm shocked no NL team took a flyer on JD, I know he's been terrible for awhile, but some of the NL lineups (Giants) are bad
  20. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) Peavy is fine per Cowley. fathom you can come off heart attack alert now. Phew, what a relief. Don't push him this year fellas!
  21. QUOTE (Cowch @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) So who are some teams that would even want these guys? I almost don't care about the return. I would imagine the Giants might have some interest in Dye, they could use a little more potential offense.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:25 AM) man it was fun watching the Bears actually be the team having a decent quarterback. Yeah, it really is amazing and so much fun to watch.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) This Mets team is so unbelievably bad. The Cubs have an extremely easy schedule the next two weeks, so look for them to get back into the mix for the Wild Card. Unless you rip of like 15 straight wins or 19 out of 20 it's so hard to jump 4 teams.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) QB: Hasselbeck, Mark Sanchez RB: LT, Ray Rice, Mendenhall, Cadillac Williams WR: Andre Johnson, Bowe, Josh Morgan, Bess, Manningham TE: Olsen, Keller K: Josh Brown DEF: Cowboys, Texans Keep in mind it's a 16 team league. Thoughts? I think you're top 2 WRs and Olsen should give you a big advantage in a 16 team league, especially since it looks like Cassel is only going to miss 1 regular season game. LT could be a big suprise for your team. For 16 teams it looks good, but I would pick up a different back up QB the second you see someone available or an injury occurs, Sanchez may be good eventually, but it's going to be tough sledding with the Jets this year
  25. Is there any word on his elbow problem yesterday being new or due to the line drive he took off of it?
