GAME THREAD: Sox (63-61) @ Sawx (70-53), 6:10pm CT

If they let the Count start at NYY it's a major slap in the face to Sox fans... I would rather see DJ go, he'll give up runs, but he'll throw strikes -

This team this year has ticked me off and dissapointed me, but tonight's game made me sad. I appreciate all JD has done for this team in his career here, but he's overmatched right now, he needs a night or two off and moved out of the 3rd spot. -
watching MLBN and they are reporting that Mets players are saying Johan Santana is going to require surgery on his left elbow, but no word on the severity of the surgery

QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) I think Danielson did one jobber squash match for The E in the past. I'll reserve judgment on him until I see how they use him, but I haven't been that impressed by him in the little I've seen of ROH. Seems like just another guy to me. He may have, he was trained by HBK and many of those guys and I believe a women or two were given curtain jerker spots on some cards. -
QUOTE (almagest @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) He could be our Carl Everett, version 2.0... I don't want him anywhere near the Sox, I was just saying that considering what he did in Arlington last year I could potentially see an AL GM desperate for a bat take a risk. I would think it would be a bad move, but more possible than anyone taking Soriano
-
The only prayer the Cubs have for dropping a little payroll is some AL GM thinks Bradley can excell at full time DH and take some of that money
-
no, the Soriano contract is horrible, like arguably the worst non-pitcher contract ever signed considering the years and money left and his age.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Wow, the umpiring in the Cubs game is absolutely atrocious. I've noticed over the last 2 weeks or so watching MLBN there have been some majorly blown calls all over MLB

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) After today they're going to be farther back than any other 2nd place team in baseball. It's time to admit they don't have it this year and start planning for a full rebuild. That won't happen of course, so they'll just keep getting older and more expensive, but that's what they ought to do. the bloated long term contracts they have on the books and lack of basically any near MLB ready talent is going to make that harder. I would imagine they could move Harden for something, he's a FA anyway and he'd get picked up and work out a trade or he would clear
-
The Cubs fans must be really writing the season off. A real Cubs fan friend of mine, not a Wrigley Cubs fan, actually called me during the bottom of the 9th and i could tell he wasn't watching the game

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) I was always pulling for Charlie Haeger when he was with the Sox. I guess I'm partial to knuckleballers since the Sox had Hoyt Wilhelm and Wilbur Wood. I was too, I think a good knuckler can do wonders to save a staff. I've watched both his starts, and I think pitching in Dodgers Stadium has helped him some, there's been some deep flyballs. He's looked good, but I don't know about 2 runs in 14 innings good.
-
as I've stated in other threads, the Tigers do not impress me, especially on the road, I don't see them pulling that far away
-
thanks, I'm always looking for something to kick those up. Also, quick suggestions if you're in a hurry. You can add a little vanilla extract, a little chocolate syrup or oatmeal.
-
Steve Stone took a subtle jab or two at Pie's development in the "minor leagues." Never mentioning the Cubs specifically, but reading between the lines it seems like he thinks the Cubs dropped the ball on that one.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Depending on what you want to broadcast, probably not worth the expense honestly. Once you start working somewhere, they just train it all out of you. Former broadcaster, now work in business development in the travel industry. thanks for the tip, how do you get your foot in the door though?

Attorney, trying to figure out how I can finance broadcasting school

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) -The UFC 103 undercard will be shown for free on Spike, Live. (I love this move.) -Yvel has not signed with the UFC. -Earlier in this thread I was told that the UFC had no control over who reffed fights. Big John says different... To me this is one of those "3 sides to every story" situation... UFC doesn't like Big John and Big John doesn't like UFC. Do they have absolute control? No, the AC has some power, do they have some say? I'm sure they do, but one of the refs who regurally still does UFC matches (can't remember which one, whoever did Lesnar/Mir I) Dana White hates and has said so multiple times in the media

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) The Ricketts deal is going down soon. Its going to be interesting to see the new management style. Will he spend tons of cash? They have big time backloaded contracts they are stuck with. He's going to have to drop a lot of cash into a renovation. I just wonder how many new revenue streams will be available. I suppose they could buy all the bars in their neighborhood. he was having trouble getting financing for the team, I can't even imagine what the real-estate and then the cash generating value of those establishments are

Looks like Lesnar vs. Carwin in Nov... if that happens Cain will get a new Oct opponent and then they'll pick from the winner of JDS/Cro Cop and Nog/Randy for a early 2010 title shot. EDIT: Looks like Ben Rothwell has agreed to fight Cain.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 12:51 AM) There was a pair of Cubs fans sitting right behind the Cubs dugout that was taunting and heckling him the entire game. It was pretty audible and his reaction was understandable Not to me. For one thing he's a pro athlete, get over it. Also, he was brought in with a big contract to help this team contend by being a force at the plate, and outside his OBP he has been a miserable failure as has the team. Hitting your ninth home run in a game your team is already winning by a few runs and is winning to avoid being swept by a below .500 in a series where your team has lost ground in both the division and the WC race then taunting fans isn't "understandable" to me.
-
Cards won and everybody but the Fish in front of them for the WC won... Got to love that Milton Bradley taunted the fans after his HR and Aramis posed after his... nothing like losing ground in both races you're in during a series to a below .500 team and acting like complete jackasses!

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) So Yvel is in the UFC now too? They either need to announce some more events or start putting like 15 bouts on every card because they're really stocking up on fighters. Maybe some of the 155ers can head to the WEC, but the WEC is also getting deeper and deeper. That's the first I've heard of Yvel in the UFC, so I'm not sure what the story is. He's a tough guy so I think he would be a great test for some of the younger UFC heavies.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) People need to realize what this is. This is Peavy getting his work in. Working on control, his secondary pitches. Not exactly the same thing as a big league game. I wouldn't get worried or excited about results good or bad. This is like people worrying about a ST start in Arizona. The MLBN guys showed his first inning (I believe it was Dan Plesac and Joe Magraine at that point) and they did an excellent job of breaking a star MLB pitcher minor league rehab down. Basically they said don't look at a box score and judge the outing. They also said it is hard to work on specific things because the minor league guys are usually geeked up and attacking early in the count (like the guy who got the double in 1st) He walked none, K'd 5 and threw more strikes than balls, as long as there was no physical set back it was a positive outing IMO

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) Looking at the Strikeforce roster there aren't a ton of options really. Overeem maybe? Werdum? Not a lot to work with over there. What's his contact situation? Is he under contract with Dream? Strikeforce? Both? I believe he's somehow contracted with M-1, so that will be interesting
