That Cardinals line-up is flat out scary

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) He also has 3 fights left on his contract with M-1 I believe. Wishful thinking I know but it would be nice if he left Finklestein after that time and went to UFC. He owns 20% of M-1, so I'm guessing he's hoping he catches on in the U.S. via Strikeforce and it makes him a crap load of money, and then if not maybe go to the UFC or destroy another U.S. MMA promotion. He's also 33 or 32 I believe, and HWs fight about 2 times a year. So he's looking at late 33 or 34 when those three fights are done if not longer because he has a history of breaking his hands that make him take longer breaks between fights. In his presser on Friday Dana said that production control is not an issue with any network anymore but HBO. I wouldn't be shocked if when Strikeforce announces Fedor's fight in the fall UFC puts their network debut on the same night or at least a UFN. Tito could fight a can and it would draw huge ratings.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) Mike and Mike seem to over value their own importantce. Bill Simmons is funny, but when he talks at length about the Red Sox, Patriots or Celtics, he loses his national relevance. I can't listen to his nasally voice, it's terrible. It's the one Adam Carolla podcast I couldn't get through, it grades on me.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Well doesn't Strikeforce have the deal with CBS? Or was that strictly EliteXC? So Fedor has 3 fights in Strikeforce, Overeem, Rogers & Werdum. *yawns* I think there's a possability of CBS shows, but nothing guaranteed. There's certainly nothing scheduled
-
Fedor signed with Strikeforce, obviously they will co-promote with M-1. Dissapointed in this unless Strikeforce beefs up their HW roster. You have Overeem and Rogers who are intriguing fights, past that not much. This will only be something business wise if they get a network deal and the UFC doesn't. Showtime is in that many homes and the matchups aren't really there.

it's not like the Yankees were a suck-fest when they came in here and the Sox toook 3 out of 4 -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 07:51 AM) I would think they have everything to lose in those games, since the sox wont be playing, they have to win or they will lose ground in the race. People talk about games back in the loss column, but you cant just assume that a team is going to win those extra games. The Cubs have those 5 extra, but going 3-2 in those games only gains half a game in the standings. If both teams are in heated races in September, that makeup game could definitely be the most intense sox-cubs game since interleague play started. also, in baseball extra games, especially 5, mean either more games without off days or double headers. Doubleheaders are hard to sweep, ignore how easy the Sox made it for the Tigers last week, and many games in a row can kill a bullpen, especially one that's been up and down like the Cubs.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) KW says he hopes Peavy will make his first start at the end of the month in either NY or BOS...says he's really only got to fill 3 starts due to days off. I'm on the Torres bandwagon for those 3 starts. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) It does show that they weren't being straight when they said they were right up against the budget, so if Peavy said no again and they did nothing, cheap would have be appropriate. I'm surprised no one has ripped the Sox for making this deal for an injured player without a physical. I'm sure that will happen, meaning a physical. I'm sure they'll want to check out the ankle and run some tests on his arm since it hasn't been scouted in a few months -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) While it's true that Peavy benefited from pitching in a pitchers park as well as pitching in the NL, one thing to remember is he is still only 27 years old. He still has a little more time to actually improve which may result in him being almost as effective in the AL as he has been in the NL. Think of it as a 27 year old prospect who has just been promoted from AAAA to the Major Leagues. Also, I know the "Cooper can fix 'em" joke gets old, but Cooper is a really good pitching coach. I'm sure he and Peavy will talk about ways to decrease his flyballs, etc... -

I hope this stops the "the White Sox are an org nobody wants anything to do with" BS. Peavy negotiated a NTC and probably took a little less money to resign with the Padres. I don't mind at all that he waited a little bit. the top 4 in our rotation could be a good selling point to a veteran FA if money is basically equal -

QUOTE (JackTalkThai @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) Peavy's numbers... 10:$15M, 11:$16M, 12:$17M, 13:$22M club option ($4M buyout) if they equal the payroll of this year, there should be money to add a good bat in the offseason through trade or FA. -
QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) I like the move and our staff, but let's calm down. Assuming Peavy is Peavy I think it's likely his ERA will rise to the 4's going from the NL and a pitcher's park to the AL and the Cell. It also makes me wonder why SD was willing to take what I think is a weak deal twice. The offense also needs to be changed from this 'summer only' streaky crap, so let's not start talking about the 'on paper' champions or anything like that. in 07 and 08 his ERA+s were 159 and 134. Will his ERA go up? Of course it will, but the other pitcher has to pitch in the same ballpark Peavy is against a line-up with a DH.

QUOTE (League @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) Still a solid deal. We've got a ton of money coming off. there was some number crunching going on in May and I think even with Peavy's deal the Sox will have like 20m for arb players, trades or FAs, theirs or from other teams. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) I read a comment from an Indians fan that said this was KW in panic mode. Damn, envy much? He acquired a f***ing Cy Young-caliber pitcher FFS. would love to hear that poster explain that. I think making a move that is focusing on 10 and beyond is the exact opposite of panic -

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) The Chicago White Sox are paying Peavy"s entire contract according to 2 WS officials by bob nightengale twitter I don't mind. Would have been awesome to get some money, but then the Pads would have wanted more. Is it a gamble? Of course it is, but I think with the top 4 the Sox have now they can be dominant team next year -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) Keep in mind Peavy did pitch 3 starts after the injury, with a heavily taped ankle. After the MRI they shut him down. I guess I'm saying it's not the kind of injury that completely prevented him from throwing. I'll miss Richard, I think this guy is going to be a stud. But man...what a rotation. yeah, but I'm definitely on the "scrap this year" bandwagon if there's any remote concern about it -

QUOTE (League @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) Anyone have links to either of their boards? That'd be something I'd love to read. It's going to be a lot of "I can't believe they traded for an injured player" and "He'll suck in the AL" It won't be until later this year or next year when he's mowing them down that the boards will be fun to read. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) Not saying I disagree with you. But there's no such thing as untouchable with KW the GM. If there was something out there that he thought made the Sox better and Hudson had to go, HE GAWN! I think the closest I've heard to an untouchable has been Beckham. There were some reports that the Sox basically told the Jays that
