  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) It weakens the punishment for gambling, which damn near destroyed baseball. I'll accept a Hall of Fame that recognizes the sort of fame that comes from a positive impact on baseball while following the rules. I'm not certain why baseball would honor someone who basically took a dump on it. I believe it's called the Hall of Fame and Museum, that's why in my other post I mentioned I wouldn't object to another section were certain aspects of the game are recognized, ie, a player who had a big impact on the game but not HOF worthy or the darker parts of the game. How much evidence is there he gambled when he played? If there's not very much or none, then he should be recognized as a player, but again, put it on his plaque
  2. I have no problem with this. Uncle Bud was at the helm when guys were juiced to the gills, to keep Rose out at this point is a joke. Although, I have no problem if HOF plaques in the future talk about people's troubles, ie, mentioning his suspension or if someone who tested positive goes in at some point mentioning it on. I think the HOF should be a little more inclusive, maybe in a separate section, someone like Tommy John should be recognized. Would someone else have gotten the surgery and been the first? Sure, but he did it and laid the path for so many guys careers.
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) It's funny, we were told Mitchell was raw for a college first rounder, but he sure isn't showing it. how's he against LHP? That was a big question
  4. knowing KW I would be shocked if Richard, Poreda and Hudson are on the Sox next Saturday unless the org has determined this is a transition year. Not saying I'm for unloading prospects (would have to depend on the return) just looking at KWs track record
  5. song was mentioned already, but the whole first verse is my fav: First off, f*** your b**** And the click you claim West side when we ride Come equipped with game You claim to be a player But I f***ed your wife We bust on Bad Boys ni***** f*** for Life Plus Puffy tryin' to see me weak Hearts I rip Biggie Smalls and Junior Mafia Some mark ass b****es We keep on coming While we running for your jewels Steady gunning Keep on busting at them fools You know the rules Little Ceasar go ask you homie How I'll leave you Cut your young ass up See you in pieces Now be deceased Little Kim, Don't f*** around with real G's Quick to snatch your ugly ass, off the streets So f*** peace I'll let them n***** know It's on for Life Don't let the west side Ride the night (ha ha) Bad Boys murdered on Wax and kill f*** with me And get your caps peeled You know, see
  6. bad weekend, thank you Clayton for not making it a disaster, excellent start tonight
  7. Dana's been on some radio station for a charity fundraiser and a few more interesting things. Sounds like they're going to cancel the 103 main event of Hendo/Franklin because the fans didn't take to it and schedule something big. Also, he's going out of the country, so next Friday he's going to have a press conference.
  8. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) would have loved to see CQ or even Nix pinch hit for Castro. with runners on 1st and 3rd? That's what I thought too, it would be asking a lot for AJ, but I think the game called for it
  9. lol, early returns, but Holliday 3-4 tonight with a 2b, r and RBI
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) You realize that the twins have a cake schedule compared to the Tigers and the Sox. We have an absolute brutal schedule, we cannot afford to give up games we should win. Bonine should be someone we crush. I know the Twins schedule is a breeze, but that Oakland series was a debacle, and I'm not just blown away by them. Obviously the sweep today wasn't good, it was horrible, but the Twins were also in a golden spot last year and struggled against the Mariners and I believe another bad team.
  11. any reports on how Mitchell is looking against LHPs? He obviously is raw due to playing football for 2/3 years at LSU, but the little I've seen and what I've read that's where he needs the most work
  12. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) Today was an absolute disaster, especially from a management standpoint. We got out managed, and that's just the truth. We probably get out managed more than any other team in baseball. the hit and run with Beckham and Wise was ridiculous
  13. i was irate after the night game, but with the schedule the next two weeks if the Sox can stay 2-4 games back they can make a run, despite today, the Tigers aren't a dominant team and the Twins have been having some bad pen performances. Have to win either tomorrow or Sunday though
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) *cues another one bites the dust* The funny thing is that I just read a report that Affliction was ready to fold into the UFC if allowed & Dana basically told them to f*** off. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this. Apparently Dana will make a huge announcement at 9:00 eastern...He also hinted that Tito is officially back in the UFC on his twitter. @danawhiteufc: I am going on espn 1100 in vegas at 6pm. I will be talking anything mma. Call in number is 702 364 1100! Oh yea and welcome back tito IMO, Dana did the right thing, I highly doubt Fedor's contract was transferable and that's probably the only one worth anything. Now they can negotiate with Vitor and make another run at Fedor (not that I think it will do any good). I've said through the whole saga, Tito back in the UFC wouldn't shock me because there's money left in him, both for Tito and the UFC
  15. QUOTE (JohnStamos @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) And you were probably complaining when Ozzie left Colon in the 7th. Some times it works out sometimes it doesn't. What do you expect Ozzie to do? Never pitch Linebrink ever again in a close game? In case you didn't realize Thorton walked in a run with the bases loaded. In the one situation where he need to throw a strike he didn't do it. There's no guarantee he gets out of the 8th scoreless. You lost this game because you couldn't execute with runners in scoring position. Not because Ozzie put Linebrink in to start the 8th. I agree this sweep was on the offense, but Ozzie should give DJ or Pena a chance at the 2nd RHer out of the pen at this point, they really can't be anyworse
  16. it started early when Ozzie decided to give an out up with the Beckham/Wise hit and run, an under 50% base stealer and a non-contact hitter, terrible. Pitching did OK today, this sweep is on the offense IMO
  17. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...21&zoneid=2 Affliction fight promotion officially over, they inked a new promo deal with the UFC
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Maybe it would have been more accurate to say "we'll never see the dominant Contreras" or a 17 game winning streak again out of Jose. We can't expect that, simply because that 94-97 MPH fastball is gone and will never be back at this point in his career. Historically, Jose has been better against the Tigers than he pitched today. Some of his most dominant outings have come against them, both at home and on the road. He's a 4th/5th starter now...maybe some of us were hoping he would have a much more extended run, where he put together a 10+ string of quality starts. All things considered, a 4.50-5.00 ERA out of Jose after the way he started is still a minor miracle. Maybe it's a little frustrating to see how well Vazquez and Aardsma are going, when a 4th/5th starter and RH bullpen arm are two huge issues for this team advancing. Remember all those threads about trading him at his peak value? Well, that window has been lost...just like it has to an extent with any deal centered around Poreda/Richard. from the Richard end you mean? Because Poreda is very young and I highly doubt any scout has changed their opinion on him (good or bad) because he had a few shaky outings pitching out of the pen, one of them coming after a huge layoff due to the all star break.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Contreras gave us 6+ innings of 2 run ball and seemed like he was left out there too long to me. Yeah, I agree, this is a game where a guys final line looks much worse than he pitched. They had a couple of bloopers that dropped against him (not taking away from the Tigers, good approaches). He pitched well, didn't walk anyone for awhile had some strikeouts, he was a victim of pitching the 1st game of a DH against a great pitcher and Colon pitching the 2nd game. IMO Ozzie did the smart thing by not blowing through the pen in the 1st game.
  20. http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/10045/ Affliction decided just to cancel the event for 8/1. Looks like they couldn't nail an opponent down quickly enough. I'm curious as to how Fedor's contract was set up, meaning does he have one fight left or was it written so this event was his last commitment and the cancelation frees him, ie X amount of fights by end of Aug. 2009. Same thing with Belfort, Dana has openly expressed interest in him, if he's free, wouldn't be suprised if they snap him up quickly. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...8&zoneid=13 Riggs vs. Diaz is also off the Strikeforce 8/15 card, so I wouldn't be shocked if a few of the undercard fighters from Affliction find their way on to that card, maybe put the Babalu fight on there.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) Supposedly, Wallace is the Cards' Gordon Beckham. 13th overall pick last year. If they don't win anything or re-sign Holliday, it would really suck for the Cardinals. However, this move really makes Pujols that much more dangerous. He's got another world-class NL slugger behind him. Also a great move for my fantasy team. I like the move, sounds like the prospects were good, especially Wallace, but as I've posted before, you have arguably the best hitter in the last 20-30 years in his prime, it's worth the risk to me. Also, if Cardinals don't resign him they can afford the risk of offering him arb and at least getting some decent picks back. Obviously a risk, but Ludwick is starting to hit, so a lineup with Pujols, Holliday, DeRosa and Ludwick is very good, especially in that division.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Holliday is going to be worth 2 picks in the offseason too, so you know Beane was taking that into consideration. as were the Cardinals when they traded 3 prospects for him, they know that if they don't resign him they can probably afford the arbitration risk and atleast get some good picks out of it. Won't automatically get what they gave up, but still won't be empty handed
  23. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Wise actually had a pretty good game at the plate today. Legging out a double, two good at-bats going deep in the count. His last two at-bats Verlander really reared dug deep for some extra gas and Wise kept up with him. In that last AB he fouled off a 99 mph pitch, followed by 100 mph, and then stuck with the 81 mph breaker on the next pitch. Sure he ground out both times but still good ABs for him and his confidence. he's either 30 or 31 and a career minor leaguer, at this point confidence isn't going to do much. That tremendous catch yesterday shouldn't blind people from the fact that he is a below average hitter, and likely will remain so
  24. QUOTE (Cochise @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) What do you bet that Ozzie puts in a crappy Sunday lineup for game 2? I would imagine you would get Pods and Wise, since I doubt they put Q in both games of a DH at this point. Castro will go. However, losing this one you can't put Fields in at 1st, PK and Dye are going to have to start tonight (unless Thome can't go both games, then I imagine PK will DH and Fields will play 1st.) Horrible approach against Verlander in the last half of that game. He pitched well, but too much early hacking at borderline pitches. They had his pitch count up around 80 early on and let him breeze through the last half.
