  1. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) I know in Tennessee it's 10 years, which is nice, but I'm sure it depends on the state. Also, I found it interesting that Memphis is was of a very few cities that lets its jurors pick what date they want to serve (as long as that date is open). Apparently most everywhere else you are just told when you have to do it. I like it the way we do it. For the most part, it allows people to find a week that works best for them. In Illinois they do a good job of checking with the judges and seeing what is on their jury call for that day, and then using the number system to limit the number of people who have to go to the courthouse.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Grabow's WHIP is a hefty 1.500 this year. Yikes. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grabojo02.shtml a career WHIP at 1.45, so it's not like he's just having an off year Do they have games against the Cards left? That lineup is so tough with Holliday, Derosa and Ludwick now hitting and even Lugo is hitting. The Cubs may realize that Hart, Dempster and Wells might not fair so well against them and Harden, even when he pitches well, is often out in the 6th.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) The lists were seized under a legal search warrant associated with the BALCO case. The Feds had every right to take it. Just like everyone on it has the right to sue the feds if their name is on the list and it leaks that their name is on the list. The problem? You don't have a case unless your name is actually on that list. Thus...filing the lawsuit is tantamount to an admission of steroid abuse. The problem here is not that the list is being leaked slowly, or embarrassing people...the problem is...baseball had a huge steroid problem for years and 103 or so of its players were stupid enough to be caught when they had a 6 month warning that testing was coming. It depends what the list consists of. If the actual list that was seized was an entire list of everybody that got tested, either negative or positive, the union could make an argument that the negative players can file a lawsuit to prevent it from being released since they took the test with promise of privacy. Now, obviously there's some flaws with my theory. You have to convince players who tested negative to go along with it and there's obviously legal attacks that can be made against that, but just trying to be creative here!
  4. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) I have never once served jury duty. I think the courts get me and my dad who are Sr. and Jr. mixed up or something. I'm a 3rd and my dad, my grandpa when he was alive and myself all have gotten called. I'm an attorney so likely won't get picked, but that's actually changing a little, I know an attorney or two who got picked on the state level, but when I got called for Federal jury duty another lawyer and I were basically told in questioning there wasn't a chance in hell we were getting picked
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Wasn't 2005 though the first year that they had testing? I would say it's very likely we were the cleanest World Series winners in a few decades. well, there's HGH and many other things, also, the 2003 list many of us are projecting on to the 04 Red Sox WS team I should have said PEDs instead of steroids in my orig post
  6. I think we as White Sox fans have to face the realistic possability that within a year a major name on the 05 team will be strongly tied to steroids. I'm not actually thinking of anybody in particular, but the way the numbers are shaking out, I'm just trying to be logical
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Done eh, not enough J-Bug, Hench and Karate Kid references for my taste
  8. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) They looked shell shocked on ESPN. Steve Phillips is pretty much being an apologist for them. I wouldn't be suprised if ESPN turns to a "everybody did it" tact and start spewing that basically everyone was on them so the playing field was equal and they didn't really have an advantage
  9. Will be curious if Gammons comes out defending the Red Sox like he normally does (when the Manny story broke this year he basically said he didn't think there was a chance he was on it with the Red Sox) or if ESPN just keeps him away from the story
  10. http://television.aol.com/tvtop5/crossing-...y%2F31129743001 video clip of Anderson Cooper asking the Bacherllette (I know that's spelled wrong) about "hooking up" on the show. Cooper rules, there's other examples of him going off about reality shows. I love how the article is titled "Crossing the line?". This skank goes on national TV macks all over multiple guys and it's "shocking" when someone asks her about it? Every joke Joel McHale made on the Soup about her having a lot of "personality" or she's "really nice" made me crack up.
  11. Pujols just won the game in the bottom of the 15th. Cards came back twice, once in bottom of 9th and then 11th... The best the Cubs could hope for at the end of 4 at home with Astros while Cards had 4 at home with the Dodgers is to push in the standings
  12. Pujols, 2 out single to win in the bottom of the 15th
  13. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) They're all slow as hell, streaky, and swing for the fences almost every at bat. You can realistically live with two of them in the middle of the order, but we need some more speed on the basepaths. The only way to score those guys is home runs, or 3-4 consecutive base hits. We are just too SLOW. STARTING pitching has been solid, but our bullpen has been pretty flawed since 2005 as well. You can have an entire staff of Mark Buehrles on the team, and it wouldn't matter if we're only scoring 2-3 runs a game.... crap, I wish I had the exact stat infront of me, but in a national game not involving the Sox (believe it was the Red Sox) they had the top 5 teams holding leads after 7 innings since 06 or 05 and the White Sox were number 5.... they've had solid pens, other pens are god awful usually
  14. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) Just finished the New York Bar exam. Two days of hell. man I am not jealous at all. It would take some crazy offer (or woman) to get me to take a bar exam again.
  15. What M-1 meant by the UFC's"very generous offer".... By: Carmichael Dave CBS Radio MMA Host Twitter.com/Carmichaeldave So we all know the deal with M-1 and what they are saying about co-promotion. I'm not here to say who's right and wrong in this deal, but I can tell you some of the specifics that were offered to Fedor..... - The UFC offered Fedor a 6 fight, 30 million dollar contract. That's 5 mil a fight - The UFC offered Fedor an immediate title shot - Lesnar/Fedor would be the biggest PPV in MMA history (we assume), and the UFC offered M-1 Global a cut of the PPV on top of Fedor's purse. - Fedor was free to wear as many M-1 logoed items as he wished. - The UFC also relented on allowing Fedor to compete in combat sambo. Apparently, for good or bad, M-1 refuses to sign a deal unless the UFC agrees to co-promote. I can tell you right now, the boys at ZUFFA will never, EVER agree to that. So if M-1 doesnt relent on that item alone, the Fedor to UFC talks are dead. Look for Team Emelianenko to turn to Strikeforce next. With co-promotions already in the books with Affliction, that shouldnt be a stopping point. I will have more comprehensive coverage on my show tonight at 9pm PST. You can stream live at Northern California's Sports Station KHTK - Homepage and call toll free at 1-800-920-1140. Twitter updates to the minute at twitter.com/carmichaeldave Updated: 6:55 PST Take that for what it is worth, but if that is anywhere near the truth Fedor and his management is crazy and UFC had caved in on a lot of things.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) Not sure if there is one in the ankle, but the ACL is in the knee. Nonetheless, I hope he's ok and it's just a bad sprain. lol, true, anatomy wasn't my strong point, I meant achilles (sp?) I believe that is down in that zone
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) Gonzales says: Ramirez right ankle sprain. On crutches. Will have x-rays Thursday. as long as it's not an ACL or some other tear, I can live with it
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) Yes, I know. "We're still in it." "The season is far from over." "Until the math says we're done anything can happen." Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't have to wait until we're mathematically eliminated to know this is a below average team in a lousy division. 4 months is more than enough of a sample size to know what kinda team we have. We're not getting Halladay. We're not getting Peavy. We're not getting Haren. We're not getting anybody that you can legitimately says makes this team better. And I for one would be disgusted if Kenny went out there and gave up valuable trade pieces to try and salvage this sinking ship because from a technical standpoint we're still "in it." I think many people agree with you, but I also think that the Tigers and Twins are bad and probably not going to get a ton for any of the vets on the team at this point.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) When have we landed a big free agent? That's what I mean. It's not really KW's MO, and with most of the contracts that have been passed out I can't blame them. The NYY are in a different league than anyone else and they can afford the mega contracts, but KW has done a great job of adding talent through trade and I think that's where he'll make his big splash in the offseason. Again, they've targeted FAs, but once the bidding gets crazy they pull back, which I agree with.
  20. is the fire KW talk serious? It's an akward year with a lot of older vets with contracts going away, I mean you can't be serious
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) We are constantly outbid in the offseason for the difference-making players. There's really no point in trying to add on talent at that point, as it won't happen. We should trade our pieces with value to prepare for more trades in the offseason. who have they been outbid on that was a great move? The Fukudome contract (actually Sox and I believe one other team did outbid the Cubs) and Tori Hunter are bloated.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) I know we have some brutal stretches coming up in the schedule. How do the Twins and Tigers schedules from here on out compare? Sox and Tigers have a lot of AL East left and Twins have none, but, before this series Oakland, who is a bad offensive team, smacked around the Twins pitching and it's basically the same team who struggled against bad teams last year near the end, so nobody is running away with this division
  23. i'm for staying put. I don't think anything on this team reaps a whole bunch, maybe the Giants would give something up for a vet bat, but this is a terrible division, just stand pat and overhaul in the offseason
  24. The Sox are bad now, but so are the Twins and the Tigers. I'm not favoring the Sox to win it, but nothing I've seen from either of those two teams say they're going to rip off some crazy streak and run away. At this point the Sox don't have a ton to trade, just hold tight, muddle around in this bad division and make the changes in the offseason.
  25. Rasmus just hit a broken bat single to tie the game up, 1-1 in the top of 10
