  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) It will just be break-ins when he's on the mound. This isn't a full game. I imagine this is what's going on. I don't think they'd cancel their studio show for Peavy's 2nd AAA outing
  2. I swear to God this actually happened, Peter Gammons already started the possability that Strasburg could end up with the NYY or Red Sox next year... I will quote as best as I can remember, it was at the end of how the deal ended up happening "if the Nationals can't afford him they can trade him for four players to the Red Sox or Yankees." OK, maybe it's worth mentioning that he would be a trade chip, but only mention the Red Sox or Yankees? Got to love ESPN!
  3. I've seen a few reports that at the 102 media call Rodrigo said that the UFC signed Rogerio... looks like Gegard basically has nobody to fight edited to add link: http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...0&zoneid=13
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Well who am I kidding I would have the beer. But man if some of the things Boers says about Murph is an act, it is one good one. no, he actually despises Murph, that is not an act. I meant in general. It's obvious they screen calls to get meatheads so they can argue with them.
  5. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Stats v. 'nuanced' perspective i guess. The fact that a real leadoff hitter exists makes the team better makes others better. Just the sort of thing B&B hate. Spiegel got on Bernstein for apparently giggling like a toddler when Pods misplayed the deep fly in Oakland. Bernstein says he has a separate love for the Sox vs. his love of seeing baseball expected things happen/return to the norm. He also says he just loves watching Pods flop around in the OF from a comedic point of view. They argued about what the future holds for Pods and how misleading his BABIP is this yr Just all around entertaining. I hope I dont sound like a B&B fanboy. I would not want a beer with either of those guys, but it's entertaining radio. Especially when someone tries to step up against them. Spiegel is clearly overmatched but gives it his all. Kind of like one of their callers if they had 15 min to go at it. During all this Boers and McNeil pretty much went off mic and vanished. if you mean B & B you'd be suprised. They're playing exagerated characters of themselves. Boers is a friend of my brother-in-laws dad and Bernstein a friend of a friend of my uncles and both are actually very nice guys.
  6. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) I think Boras in this instance was a hinderance to Strasburg as Washington could just blame it on Boras setting a number that was not reasonable. I agree with this. If was any other agent and the Nationals didn't sign him Nationals would have been slammed, but if that horrible scenario would have happened they would have gotten somewhat of a pass
  7. i believe those photos were taken several months ago
  8. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) Jordan Danks is back on the DL http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=6088 as long as this isn't one of those wrist injuries that can derail a career, this is actually somewhat comforting. By this I mean I'm kind of relieved to see there's something physically wrong with him to help explain the slump instead of a developmental step back. Hopefully this is something that rest and treatment can 100% fix. At this point there's zero need to rush him back and play him in the AFL or winter leagues
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Let me put it this way - I'm not wishing injury on him, but if someone destroyed his ACL I would not be upset. Not me, I would rather see him stay healthy and play poorly and put the Vikings in a real uncomfortable position. (In fact, I think this is a realisitc possability.)
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 07:34 AM) Yup. With the 4 guys we have right now and Hudson making a mockery of the minor leagues, I'd say the last thing KW is worried about is starting pitching. The Red Sox about 1-2 months ago thought they had an endless supply of SPs, granted that involved some older pitchers as well, but that can go away quickly. If there is mutual interest and the Sox think it's a reasonable contract they should jump all over him
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Doesn't this guy have kids he wants to see grow up? he'll drag them out in his statement saying how they were too young to see him in his good days and he wants them to see him play at a top level or some crap.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) The receivers are not going to be the problem of this team, the secondary is the biggest issue on this team. Between Hester, Olsen, and Forte they have some weapons plus Desmond Clark is a pretty damn good 2nd TE and Im sure one of the other WR's will step up and be atleast passable. I'm with you on this. Despite the 1st preseason game i think Cutler and the offense will have a solid year. Between Forte and Olsen and just the threat of simple fly patterns to Hester they'll be OK. Also, I think the O-line will end up being solid(I'm not saying they're going to be crazy, but they'll do well enough). But as you point out that secondary is a trainwreck and without MAJOR years from the d-line it could get ugly in some games.
  13. Glazer confirmed it on twitter... I think it's a bad move for the Vikings if they let him be a gunslinger. Adrian Peterson is the best RB in football IMO, and if in crucial moments they're going to let Favre sling it instead of AP getting a steady diet, it's a bad move.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 12:04 AM) As I was saying, the Cubs best shot is to win the Wild Card. The Cardinals schedule is tougher, but it lines up perfectly for them so they can skip their non-existent #5 starter a handful of times. Start rooting for Colorado and San Fran a lot. I think the Marlins are in front of them too. The Cubs would have to do a big turnaround to pull off the wildcard. The thing that's really going to get them is unlike the Cards they don't have too many days off, so the pen is going to get worked and the whole team is just not going to get much rest.
  15. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) I think Crow can sign up until next year's draft because he played for an indy league team, indy league guys and college seniors are not subject to tonight's deadline. They guy on MLBN, his last name was Mayo I believe, said he can sign until May and KC told him and his agent that they are going to focus on other picks first and then talk to him, so that has a long time to get done
  16. haha, that was hysterical, from Lou wandering around the infield to the HR. This team is six back now, I believe 4 in the loss column with 48 to play and Cards have 44. So if the Cards go 22-22 would the Cubs have to go 30-18 to force a playoff? That's quick math, which I'm horrible at. Also, in the Strasburg coverage they mentioned that Samardzja (sp?) got a 9.5m signing bonus. God, I know they had to keep him away from football, but that's insane.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) Agreed, the womens bout had a very amateur feel to it. Especially got to me when Gina kept turning around and nearly had her back to Cyborg during the stand up exchanges. If that happened in a mens bout someone would get taken down and choked out. Werdum looked pretty average. If he fought Fedor I'm sure he would have the same luck as Arlovski or Sylvia. yeah, "amateur" is a perfect word to use for the fight on Saturday. Also, have to love how helpful Fedor and M-1 are!!! I mean, come on, the Carano/Cyborg fight will get the most it can out of Showtime viewership and he wasn't even there? Mousasi has so few options in Strikeforce right now. They're talking like Lil' Nog (actually would be interested in that, but I've heard he's trying to get inked with the UFC), Mike Whitehead and other names that don't do much for me... I need to see him in the UFC!!! Also, the big MMA news of the day.... Chuck Liddell on the new season of Dancing With the Stars!!
  18. the two contracts that Strasburg will beat if/when he signs today, Mark Prior and Matt White
  19. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 03:02 AM) At least Mousasi is getting paid to waste his time. Babalu was Strikeforce's best guy at LHW and Mousasi already ran through Dream's middleweight "division." I hope his contract doesn't run too long and he can sign with the UFC pretty soon. Since he's a training partner of Fedor he won't fight Fedor, but if he's only got 3 fights (which I hope) maybe he can fight Werdum and Rogers at HW and Robbie Lawler at 205 or something. Lil Nog might be a possibility if Strikeforce is planning on picking him up, but I could also see him in the UFC too. Yeah, I want Mousasi in the UFC ASAP. OK night of fights, I hate women's MMA, just don't like watching it. Talked a lot about "technique" and there's very little. The take downs in that fight were like playground fight, there were what, 3-4 where the women taking the person down lost position right away? That's sloppy. I am just not impressed by Werdum, I wouldn't really look forward to a Fedor/Werdum fight at this point.
  20. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 01:52 AM) English Premier League kicks off tonight. I have $100 on Chelsea beating Hull, Man United beating Birmingham and Aston Villa beating Wigan to get back $225. Well, your first leg made you sweat it out! QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 03:20 AM) ESPN2 will have that Chelsea/Hull game. They bought out Fox Soccer Channel for Premier League rights on Friday and are showing the game Saturday. They already had the UK deal, but now they are able to show the games in the US. I was thrilled when my TiVo season pass had EPL Fan Zone set to record this week. One of my favorite shows! I get a good belly laugh at least 3-4 times a show
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Stoney said this morning on Sportsrise that the Cubs have 49 games left in this season, and they only play 12 against teams that are over .500 now. Expect them in the playoffs. eh, they could realistically go 4-8 over those games then you have 37 games left to make some noise and they have to gain 4 1/2 games on the Cards with 3 games in hand or jump over, what, 3-4 teams in the wild card? The Cards are playing some real good baseball right now and it's hard to jump that many teams, even with 49 games left. It will still be uphill for them. Are the Brewers under .500? Because that's at least one team that can give them some trouble offensively
  22. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) Didnt get to see this game. How did Rios look in CF? he had an error because he and Q had zero communication, other than that very smooth. Ugly, but a good win. DJ, Thornton, Dotel (great to see him look sharp tonight) and Bobby came through! Alexi was clutch!
  23. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) +1 Dana also said they'd be putting on "serious fights" on free tv if/when they get it, so the main event stuff shouldn't be a problem. My first guess is this: the UFC wants to keep expanding internationally, but they also have problems drawing in viewers on PPV for replays or for live showings at like 2pm CT. There's still some very good cards they run out with very solid main events (like Wandy-Franklin in Germany) so I bet that whoever they go with on a network takes those international cards and airs them live. well network deal or not, I imagine we're going to get at least a Spike live card against Fedor's first fight on Showtime. Wouldn't be shocked if they headlined it with Tito vs. Coleman or KenFlo vs. Guida or another top UFC LW
  24. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Snapping up all these guys to keep them from Strikeforce is probably a big part of the reason at least and is the most obvious guess. But it seems to me like the UFC is gearing up to announce a major TV deal shortly. Here's why: -Dana promised a major announcement that would change the UFC and the MMA landscape forever. Dana has since said that none of the other major announcements (Tito, Belfort, Affliction, UK deal, etc.) were that announcement, and he said that sometimes it takes a while for things to get finalized. -Dana mentioned during the 101 post-fight press conference that they might be adding another event in October. Hmm, isn't Strikeforce supposed to hit CBS this fall? That would be an odd coincidence. -The UFC recently formed a partnership with ESPN for the airing of all major UFC live programming. Meanwhile, Bellator has reportedly impressed on ESPN Deportes and the President of ESPN (I believe, maybe a CEO) attended UFC 100 and has supposedly been pushing MMA more as a topic of conversation on regular ESPN programming. Plus 101 had the MMA Live crew there which I believe had only been done before for BJ-GSP 2, Lesnar-Couture, and Lesnar-Mir, GSP-Alves. 101 was a major card, but not nearly as major as those other three, so could that signal an ESPN presence at every PPV? -Dana was asked by Meltzer for an update on the network TV situation and Dana said the interest is hotter than ever and that they didn't think they were far from a deal. He also made it sound like production and creative issues were no longer problems. -The video blogs are all gone and there have been hints of a behind-the-scenes series debuting that would essentially replace them. -Lastly, look at all of these fighters coming in and there's a lot of similarities. Matyushenko, Baroni, Rothwell, Buentello, etc. are all name fighters. They're not exactly world beaters, but they're not prelim fighters either. They all seem like the type of fighters you put on the main card of a free television show, and Spike isn't scheduled to run a ton of TUF Finales and UFN's every year. Just a guess on my part, but UFC is going to be making a powerplay shortly, and within 2 months tops of Strikeforce appearing on CBS we'll see the UFC either on a network, ESPN, or HBO, and possibly they'll have 2 out of 3. I agree. Meltzer wrote that the hold-up now is that they would want to put a PPV main event on a network or ESPN card and the current offers would have them lose revenue from running a PPV. I think they'll overcome that shortly and you'll see something, also, they snapped up a decent amount of Affliction fighters and after initially saying they were cutting Leites they said they're keeping him now. I felt something is coming sooner rather than later when I heard Dana say creative control isn't a problem anymore except with HBO.
  25. and as a pleasant suprise for a women's fight, they both made weight!!
