  1. I think this is a very good deal, I think the numbers are fair, partly because there's a low first year and the theory goes that the Comcast deal is going to give them more money down the line. I also like it from the stability part... This offseason we had six good players leave, the Sox maybe were getting a label of a team you don't want to play for, but I think this can go to show that this isn't a horrible place to play (and yes I know he wouldn't be a FA until 05, but he gave an extra year and a TEAM option).
  2. Just watched the SC where Gammons reports this rumor, he says there will HAVE to be cash and players added to make it work, so this isn't the final deal
  3. The Score is reporting that an Arizona paper is saying the Cubs are close to a deal with Ivan Rodriquez, but their sources say the Cubs want to wait and see what the free-agent market turns out to be... So that seems to me that the Cubs are looking to fill other holes. (left handed set-up man, top of the order hitter) before sinking a big contract in another right handed hitter. Also Gammons was on SC tonight and said I-Rod is interested in the Orioles and didn't mention the Cubs.... But it is Gammons so take it with a grain of salt Also said there's no word on Maddoux yet, but if Pettite signs with Houston, which he says is a real possibility, that the Yankees might be interested
  4. Insurance use to be a hot thing, but the insurance companies got burned on some big contracts so it is REALLY hard to get insurance and if you can the premiums are huge... Actually some professional wrestlers still get some from Lloyd's of London, but again the premiums are high
  5. I thought Colon was a solid pitcher for the Sox last year, but there is no need to overpay him just to keep him, if KW does nothing else then yes this move sucks, but I'm willing to give KW a chance to do something, if they can get Ponson and Todd Walker for the money they're saving it would be a worth while move
  6. This is what drives me nuts about Gammons, he doesn't mention one thing about the Colon offer in this new article. I know one may argue that we are paying more attention to it because we're in Chicago, but he did mention the Angels off season moves and Yankees waiting on Pettite, which both relate directly to the Colon move. Also, Gammons wrote an article saying how Colon was one of the top free agents this off season, and then 2 major developments happen relating to his signing and nothing!!!
  7. These are really logical moves, but sometimes with you have to applaud logical moves with this team!!! Worse case scenario with both these players are they accept arbitration and they come back, this is a reasonabile salary situation. The longer Colon hasn't signed with the Angels the more I think that the 4 year 48 is either just a false report or heavily deffered, so I actually think Colon may take arbitration and try free agency again off season, especially since Sox may be closer to a bigger television deal at that point with the new Comcast deal, hence more money to offer him. The real tell tale sign for Colon will be when Pettite signs somewhere, than could cut another leg out from Colon and his agent if he resigns with NY
  8. In his updates George Offman (usually pretty good with rumors) has had sources saying the Angels Colon offer is "Bloated" no expansion on that idea, so not sure if he means deffered money or the report going around is false. Also said Sox would love to trade Konerko for Perez, but seems like Dodgers are hesitant
  9. I agree that one singular part is hard to pick out, there's the one when they are Lil' Rascals, and Adam Carolla is young death; Young Peter: Ha! I laugh at death Young Death (wearing a pro-smoking t-shirt) Oh great, like my life isn't hard enough (Sorry, I'm paraphrasing that one from memory) Also have the 5 minute fight between Peter and the guy in the chicken suit over expired coupons BUT, the all time funniest moment in Family Guy, and possibly any sitcom is from the same episode I believe: Brian and Peter Sitting on the couch watching Seasame Street, and The Count is on the screen The Count: One bat ah ah ah ah Peter: What's the deal with the Count, is he supposed to be a vampire Brian: What do you mean? Peter: Did they ever do an episode explaining him? Brian: You're asking me if Seasame Street ever did an episode where they had the count do away with somebody and drink their blood for sustenance? Peter: Yeah Brian: No, no they've never done that Best part is it is delivered totally straight, I've seen that part so many times and still laugh my ass off (as well as the scene in Jackass where Bam hits Phil in the face with a pie that Phil had made earlier that day and danced around him yelling "That's the pie you made fat b****, with lemon merainge!!!")
  10. The sad thing is that team could be favored to win the division!!! But, as my post indicates I don't see Colon coming back, so what's everyone thing a rotation will look like without him, I got; Buehrle Esteban Garnland Perez/Showy Jon "I spent last year in the Witness protection progarm" Rauch (I think he still has a good upside) Also I can maybe see the signing Ponson who would be 2 or 3 With the bullpen I love having Marte anchor it, and I actually trust KW to build one (He did last year). If you look at Marte's numbers last year they were SICK!!! Also, I don't put much stock in Gload, there's usually a reason a player is a career minor leaguer, I do like bringing back Daubach (sp?) though, and let's bring back Tony G. if they're not going to sign Colon or another middle infielder
  11. (I've been studying for finals for a week straight, so this may come off as a tirade since I'm probably blowing off steam!!) I guess I was wrong earlier about the Angels offer, I guess I'm use to Owner Jerry and his ways and would never think an owner would make a bold move (I assume the Angels owner is doing this to take him off the market before the Yankees get serious, and so they can sign him before sox offer him arbitration) I just don't see the sox re-signing him at this point, there's 3 scenarios I can possibly forsee him coming back (Not including that the rumored offer is false) 1. We dump pay roll and up the offer, but I don't see it being as high as the Angels' offer though 2. It's really true that Colon is a quiet guy who's comfortable with the Sox and willing to take a little less to stay here, but Sox would have to increase the 3 and 30 offer, either by years or $ for this to occur 3. He takes arbitration from Sox, gets about 12m for 04 and attempts free agency again next year (I actually think this is the most likely out of the 3, but probably not going to happen) It's just ridiculous how Reinsdorf runs this team (I won't even blame KW) He says he'll increase payroll if attendance goes up, well it's gone up for the last 3 years and he is still turning this offseason into a joke for Sox fans. And I'm sure this money offered to Colon from the Sox will vanish again and KW will cry poor (as JR's mouthpiece). That's what's driving me nuts about this offseason, they cry poor than offer 8 digits to Colon twice without explaining how they will be able to do it financially. The only hope I have is that the AL central is bad, and the team that won it last year is shipping all-star calliber players faster than the Sox aren't spending money. I sincerely hope KW is not putting all his energy into Colon and has some back up plan. I would personally like to see the Sox get Ponson, I think he's a good pitcher who can eat innings, and will probably cost about what Escobar cost (6-7m a year) Oh yeah, I'm a huge Dodgers fan also (Spent summers in So Cal growing up starting in mid 80's) and I would like the Konerko for Perez move, BUT, Perez is not a front line starter, he is a very solid 3-4 type pitcher (his numbers are skewed from pitching at Dodgers Stadium) So, Colon will probably be an Angel by Saturday and we will have to hear the same KW sound bites, OH JOY!!!
  12. ESPN.com posts things to get people to buy the insider, so always take those "headlines" with a grain of salt. I would doubt the Angels are offering him 18million more than the sox offer For what it's worth WSCR in Chicago was reporting today that Colon is leaning towards the sox 3 year 30 million dollar offer
  13. I think the Cubs are going to have to do more than simply match the Marlins offer. If they truly want Castillo they are going to have to offer more than the Marlins are offering because he's probably comfortable with the team, he's already won a world series there, and the Marlins have showed signs of spending money to keep players, ie Lowell and Castillo himself.
  14. This could effect the Sox and their pitching situation. I think this is in the area of what Ponson is going to get. Now that Good King George is most likely going to throw the bank at Colon the Sox hopefully will turn their attention to a more realistic signing of Ponson
  15. Reading Gammons new Diamon Notes he says the White Sox are "zooming" back in on Colon. This maybe becasue the Yankee's deal is reportadly 3 years at 38 million, not a lot off of the Sox deal (however, I'm not sure how much of the Sox was defferred money). With this point it is interesting to ask just what the hell the Sox are doing this offseason. It's an topic Dan and Terry have brought up on the Score a few times. Basically my question is if they were offering Colon as much money as reported, what would they have done if they signed him? During their current situation without him they are crying money trouble (even though attendence has been up the last 3 years). With him it just adds even more payroll with no guarantee they can dump Mags, Konerko, Koch, etc... salary. Now the key word there is can, not willing to. If anyone has heard anything about this or have any ideas let me hear them P.S. Gammons also said Sox maybe looking to move Valentine to 2nd
