QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:25 PM) Look for Dunn to sign with the Cubs and play RF. that would be the most logical moves the Cubs could make for their offense.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) Here's how you know Swisher sucked last year....we had two play-in games to make the playoffs, and he could only find the field as a defensive replacement. I would have started Swisher over Wise both times. There's no doubt Swisher had a down year for him. My argument is he was playing out of position and he should have hit 2nd all year, I was hoping for a bounce back year, my concern is he was sold low, but I do trust KW and I know this isn't his last move.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) I don't know, people were always complaing about Swish's K's. Imagine how they'll like Dunn. His power though.... oh boy. if they move dye, he would be a perfect fit for the Cell. You would have to tolerate him in the OF most of the time though. I would love that move

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) I don't see why not. I think he'll go the route of Floyd though... half a year to learn what Coop wants, then come up and be "meh" mostly and then 2010 start to show us middle of the rotation stuff. Not bad. we'll see, I think Vaz is next to be dealt, also sounds like they'll still shop Dye... I know I'm going to get ripped apart, but if Dye goes I want the Sox to make a run at Dunn

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) I think this is kind of a ho-hum deal, and that there's a possibility that none of the players involved will ever make a huge impact on their new teams. Just an opinion. I think the most interesting piece in this is Marquez, who sounds like a reclamation project, ala Floyd. I do like Betemit though and always have. With Giambi gone Swisher is a perfect fit for the NYY at first, obviously losing some power, but he's a good glove guy and a good OBP guy

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) I think we're meant to think that sorry fathom, read your post, not swisher
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Are we still talking about Swisher? I think we're meant to think that

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) I'm sure....and that was when PEDs were more accessible (especially in that locker room). No, I meant the kyle farnsworth type lifestyle you were mentioning. I have never heard Swisher's name associated with PEDs, so I wouldn't make that leap
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Swisher reminds me of Kyle Farnsworth, who was too busy enjoying extracurricular activities than preparing his body for the full season. Didn't he do that stuff with the A's?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) Swisher might be the most overrated Sox player since I started following the team in '83. by who? Ozzie and the Sox demoted him in the order and he lost playing time at the end of the year, he got slammed on this board. He has a fun personality that people enjoyed. IMO Oz missused him. He will likely never hit for a crazy average.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) In all seriousness, would you like to back up this slanderous allegation? these allegations were made all year about him by numerous posters, only support given is he played in Oakland
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) i still hate this. we will regret it. He will likely fall back into his 06 and 07 numbers playing 1st base with the NYY
-
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Bulls***. f*** Nick Swisher for once and for all. I didn't even realize this: I guess we should also gives props to shipps and BearSox (although he called the deal bad more on what we gave up) for their original thoughts of the Swisher trade at the beginning. BA is a horrible stat to rate a players offensive production. Not saying Swish lit the world on fire, but Swisher will never have a good BA, he's not that type of hitter.
-
QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) Where has Melky been mentioned? So far it's Marquez, Betemit and some other minor league pitcher. I haven't seen Melky anywhere, I think it's the 2 for 3 being posted
-
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) Where are people hearing this stuff about Betemit? WSCR is reporting it, that's where I'm hearing it

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Its amazing how bad Swisher was and how much slack he continues to get. He hit .219. He fanned at an incredible clip. He hit below .200 after the AS break. He couldn't beat out Wise for playing time when Quentin went down. BA is a horrible stat to try and prove how good or bad a player is. He was below average last year, I cannot argue that but in his first two years he was about 20% than an average player, he was playing CF for the first time on a regular basis, his BABIP was low and Ozzie dropped him lower in the order. He deserves slack and wouldn't be suprised if he's back to an OPS+ of 120 for the Yankees next year. It's Swisher, a Single A pitcher for Nunez, Marquez and Betemit
-
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Like I always say to myself after KWs first move, lets let this play out and see what he is trying to do before we judge this move I agree that KW has earned this, but if the Sox only got this one player than this is a bad move. In his first full 2 years he had an OPS+ of over 120 and he was bad with the Sox last year, but his OPS+ was still 92, below average, but not as horrible as everyone makes it out to be (granted he had a HUGE month that skews that). KW will make more moves, but this is selling low on a good player
-
More I think of it, the more I hate it... Swish was a solid OBP guy and the Sox are sorely lacking in that area. Now they only have Q and Thome who will more times than not give the lineup a solid AB taking a ton of pitches. Swish should have been hitting 1 or 2 all year, Ozzie didn't use him right. Hope KW has more up his sleeve (which I'm sure he does, I am going into 1st move of the post season panic mode) because starting Fields, Getz, and BA or GOD FORBID Owens doesn't quite do it for me
-
QUOTE (dww879 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Konerko, Thome or Dye all should have been traded instead of Swisher I have a feeling that's going to happen
-
Hope they got more, Swisher's first couple few years were solid
-
B & B are saying Swisher to NYY for a package, only name mentioned is a minor league pitcher named Marquez... Hope Sox didn't sell low on a 28 year old with a decent career

SoxFan562004 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club

B & B are doing a good recap of this situation right now -

FWIW ESPN radio, both national and the local, said Cubs and Braves are still in Peavy discussions, but Pads are talking to Braves now and Cubs are trying to get a 3rd team involved. Looks like Pads were balking at the cubs package (The Score is saying Cubs and Padres looking for a 3rd team while ESPN is saying Braves and Pads are in advanced talks)
