  1. it likely has something to do with logistics. A MLB series has a lot of things that have to go into it, so they probably have to book rooms, flights, etc. a week or two in advance. I imagine a series prior they reserve rooms in every possible city and just eat a deposit for the city that doesn't make it. If you left it to best record it could be determined on the last day. It's probably an old system that with technology they don't need anymore, but that is my guess on why they started it.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:14 AM) He was the #12 MLB CFer in terms of OPS, and that doesn't really take into account/factor in stolen bases and his defensive abilities (minus the arm). And this was admittedly a downer/disappointing season for Young and the D-Backs. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/battin...ull&minpa=0 He had his highest OPS+ and 4.8 RC/G. It's a small sample obviously, but he didn't have a down year for him.
  3. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) Rafael Furcal and Manny Ramirez are in the Scott Boras post season Carlos Beltran free agent showcase. They are scary. Joe Torre is an equalizer like none other, I do not know why but he is. Rich Harden was hitting 85 on the gun with his fastball in New York last week. Lilly's role for this series is to back up Hardan and Zambrano if they are not healthy. The cubs are constructed to shut out bad hitting teams and pound bad pitching. They are made to win a lot of games in the NL. As for the playoffs, who knows. The Yankees will sign Manny. They'll add a few years that no other team will want to match and just eat it on the downside of his career. The sentence I bolded is right on the money, good post.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 06:57 AM) That's why I can't stand the Score. They just insult any listener who dares to disagree with them. At least over on ESPN they usually will make their argument as to why they're wrong instead of just hanging up on the guy and then ripping him. That's Bernstein's MO, he went to Duke and you didn't!!! The show is funny at times, my sister's father-in-law knows Boers personally, and he says it's basically an act, but I have no idea if Bernstein is an act or not. I said it before, Bernstein showed his cards when he turned down going to WLS to co-host with Roe Cahn (sp?). He couldn't pull the smartest man in the room act and bully callers like he does.
  5. So am I the only one who thinks that even considering his HR yesterday Wise shouldn't see the field? Is there a plan for a LHP? Will Ozzie start Griffey in CF?
  6. http://www.baseball-reference.com/y/youngch04.shtml it's a wash trade as far as I'm concerned. Yeah, you save money with Young, but the Sox are a top 10 payroll team, so Javy's contract won't cripple them. Javy is fine as a 4-5 starter and Young is an average offensive player with plus defense
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) How about because Fields sucks at 3rd. who cares? Swisher has a better chance of giving a quality AB there, score runs and worry about it because if they don't they're going to lose anyway
  8. QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Why wasn't there a pinch hitter for juan? Does anyone know? I would guess limited options to play 3b, but Ozzie needs to worry about that after they bat
  9. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) what in the hell is going on OC acts like an a-hole and "challenges" balfour to throw strikes, Balfour does and whiffs him
  10. what an epic AB by OC, acts like an asshole, swings at ball 3 in a 2-1 count, whiffs and charges up the Rays even more
  11. Horrible AB, just absolutely horrible. Swisher needs to hit there
  12. great, 1-2 count, here comes some garbage offspeed for a k
  13. inexcusable that Shields pitched that long only giving up 3 so far
  14. OK, that was an odd decision by Maddon that worked out for the Sox. Come on Juan, one time
  15. Nice job Clayton, good to see he has some sack
  16. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) That was pathetic. to think I took the afternoon off to watch this garbage. I actually avodied doing that since it was Javy starting. I will leave early tomorrow to watch MB pitch
  17. Just like the Twins series, there's no way Shield's should have gone 6 only giving up 3 with the stuff he had today
  18. Clayton does an OK job of stopping the bleeding
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) this sucks It would be somewhat easier to take if Sheilds had dominating stuff today, but it's Javy bad on the mound and the offense bad
  20. wow, that 2-0 pitch was right there, Longoria was looking for something else
