  1. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Do Murph and Boers/Bernstein actually hate each other? Or is it all an act on the part of B&B? Has this ever been addressed on air, anyone know? Boers hit him pretty hard just now. And Berns/Murph come from two total opposite ends of the spectrum. Someone here use to intern, so they can give you the inside scoop, but remembering a few past posts and speaking with my brother-in-law who somehow knows the Boers family, the Boers/Murph feud is legit.
  2. Can someone explain the bounce today? Was it confidence stemming from the meetings over the weekend or were there concrete numbers that came out?
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 08:38 AM) Dont watch the pickup artist on VH1. It did produce a funny SNL moment last year when Bill Clinton went to a costume party dressed up as the main guy on the show
  4. When I worked for McHenry County we got every other election day off, if I still worked there I would get this one coming up off, it was epic and I taunted all of my friends. I don't really think it should be a holiday. I get up a 1/2 hour earlier and vote in the morning, worst case scenario if I was a little late because the polls were busy my boss wouldn't give me s***
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) BJ Upton trying to make the White Sox pitching staff feel better about itself. Wow, the Rays are not impressed that the Red Sox haven't lost a game at Fenway that Lester started since April. Anyone watching the game? Is the wind blowing out?
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Damn Im just finding out south parks new season started? How many episodes have I missed? I'm 99% sure this wednesday's was the first one, so go to your guide and find the rerun, i think Comedy Central runs it over the weekend
  7. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Athlete's almost always SUCK. Peyton Manning was actually one of the best ones. There were a bunch of great sketches in his episode. Johnny Mosely was also kinda good. The hosts that are the best are people with stage experience in their past. Because it's basically live theater. And for some reason, British people always rock haha I agree, athlete's for an entire show usually suck, but there have been classic skits. The Joe Montana "I'm going upstairs to masturbate" sketch and the Wayne Gretzky Hawaian Hockey sketch make me laugh after many viewings
  8. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 06:19 PM) South Park = money The show is so great. OK possible SPOILER ALERT!!!!! I know that two of the Indiana Jones, Lucas, Speilberg parodies were The Accused and Deliverance, but was the first one a parody of anything?
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) So I'll preface this with the fact that I've been in lengthy relationships almost non-stop for all of my high school through college life. But now, for the last year I've been single and I feel like I missed the part where I learned how to meet women. Which brings us to today's question: How do you approach a girl you don't know? At a bar/club/party or even in a normal, everyday situation - say a girl in class (for us college folk)? Do you go it alone? Do you use a wingman? And do you approach it differently based on what you're looking to get out of it? I ask because a) I'm interested in hearing about other guys' tactics, b ) I've been inspired by Neil Patrick Harris' character on How I Met Your Mother and c) because i suck at it. I kind of know where you're coming from. I went to Elmhurst College and it's something like 7 to 1 girl to guy ratio, so it was very easy for me to talk to and meet women in college, but then I was hit with the real world where it isn't as easy!
  10. Swisher probably doesn't have a ton of value. He OPS+ about 125 the last two full years. He was playing a new position and his batting style is more valubable in the 2nd or 1st hole. With him and Q back next year hitting 2 and 3 the Sox will see a lot of pitches, something the lineup at the end of the year was not doing. He is still a good player and I want to see him have another shot
  11. QUOTE (Felix @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 06:07 AM) Who cares? We're in the American League and this fascination that people have with bunts is disgusting. Bunts are designed to give outs to the other team. The whole point of offense is to not get out. I don't get what's so hard to understand here. Yes, they can be helpful in a tie game in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on second and no outs, but to use them as much as some people here seem to want would be ridiculous and insane when the rest of the team is built on power. Great post. I don't mind getting a good player with speed, but just to run out an average to below average player just because he has speed is ridiculous. I would rather bring back a similar type team as this year and sticking a "speed" guy as the 25th man than bringing in a regular player who sucks but is fast.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I'm going next Thursday and am dying for that day to roll around. I know they have a newer (about a year) club at Luxor called "LAX" they heavily promoted it when it opened, so night want to check that one out.
  13. The Petruzelli fight was a harder fight that Shamrock would have been, but that's what happens when your Org is bleeding money and has only two main draws. There's no way CBS and Elite could have pulled Kimbo from the card, they had to cross their fingers and hope it worked out, and for them, it didn't. That's what Kimbo is though, he isn't anywhere near an elite level fighter.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) Did you know that Mickey Mantle could run to first in one second. and that Frank Howard was seven foot 12 500 lbs with a 32 inch waist????
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) True we may have been able to get Harden, but likely the Cubs would have been able to beat whatever offer we made. Im sure the A's wanted Poreda from us, and after that point the Sox just really dont have a lot of depth to trade in the minors. Yeah, the Cubs probably would have matched any team until it got silly. It was a very good move for them, his upside is tremendous and they were basically in the same position if his arm fell off with giving up only minimal talent. He will be another pitcher who some team will give a huge FA contract to and I will be left scratching my head
  16. The thing that shocked me is when the Hawk said he talked to someone in the Twins org and they said their plan is to keep scouting and developing players as they are and try to get their new outdoor field to be like the one in Arlington. There is zero possability that is their real plan, because if it is that team is in for some bad years because you cannot replicate the Texas weather in Minny.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) I think if the Sox still had Chris Young they would not have Carlos. So no, I think Kenny is happy to have Carlos and probably could care less about Chris Young. Well I think obviously Kenny says that, because if Kenny could have found cheaper better options he would have. The reason Vazquez is on the Sox is because prior to this year he had a 3.74 era and it looked like he had settled down and gotten in rhythm. There were not very many sub 4 era pitchers available on the market, so Kenny probably could not find a better option at that point. The Sox did not have the bullets to get Harden or CC, and seeing as they did not even get 1 SP the entire season, I really doubt there were any other legitimate options (its pretty telling the Sox werent even willing to take a flier on Garcia). From that I have to assume that Kenny could not do better than what he had, without giving up significant young talent and hurting this team for the future. Thus some times its better to eat a salary in Javy, than it is to rape your farm system. You can always increase your payroll, its not so easy to replace your minor leagues (although for the Sox it is cause few seem to pan out.) They might have been able to get Harden, the Cubs didn't give a ton up for him. However, there's a reason the Cubs didn't have to give a ton up for him, he's a HUGE question mark with his health.
  18. a couple of times, but for some reason I use the '84 olmpics as a point of reference, I was 5 when it happened and it's some of my first vivid memories. I remember Mary Lou Retton (sp?) and the big deal made over her, so when I went on a date with a girl who wasn't even born in '84, I felt super old.
  19. I saw Weezer yesterday at the Allstate Arena. Not a bad show, I've seen them multiple times at smaller/better venues, so I just went had some drinks and had a good time. They put together a good set list. Angels and Airwaves opened and oh my god are they bad. I hadn't heard much by them, but good lord was it bad. I am actually a pretty big Blink-182 fan, but after last night I realized that Tom needs Mark Hoppus. Every song, except the last one, was just whiny and pretentious. I will give them that their last song, my friend's wife said it was a hit, was actually good because it was actual rock and roll.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) I think too many people are blowing the Wise/Swisher thing out of proportion. You'd think the argument was Royce Clayton over Mickey Mantle. I see your point, but it kind of sums up a lot of my frustration with Ozzie. Swisher is the better player. Wise contributed a ton a few weeks ago, but he is not the best option with all things considered. I will anxiously await the lineup at roughly 3
  21. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) I would like Swisher/BA today +1 my man. I agree, at least Swisher in the 2nd spot. I can make a ton of excuses for Swisher, ie, playing a new position, his style is a way better fit at the top of an order, etc, but he sucked this year outside of June and August. However, even with him sucking he still took a lot of pitches. With Q out they need someone other than Thome who you can count on seeing a lot of pitches. Enough with the Wise crap, he is a 30 year old career minor leaguer for a reason
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) That is a good point, but I wonder how many of those scenarios were that close? True, it would be interesting to know, probably not very many. Like I said, I could understand when everything had to be done via telephone or mail, but with modern technology, they could easily go to best record, IMO
  23. CBS/Elite XC card should be worth watching on Saturday. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...7&zoneid=14 Arlovski and Ninja for free, can't complain. Kimbo is what he is at this point, I can't blame the guy for getting paid, but against any top 20 HW he would get destroyed. Shamrock actually has a chance if it goes to the mat, but Shamrock will stand and bang with him for some reason that god only knows
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) Bears fans will never complain about getting rid of Benson, never. We were begging for him to be run out of town for a long time. Forte makes it easier, he's really impressive
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) Who would you look at for fifth starter next year? I'm already penciling Richard in at #4, lol. 1) Broadway 2) Carrasco 3) Horacio Ramirez 4) Vazquez 5) FA 6) Trade 7) Poreda 8) Egbert 9) Haeger 10) Sisco 11) MacDougal I don't think there's anything wrong with having Javy as 4 or 5. He will eat innings and, during the regular season, give you at least a 50/50 shot at winning. He costs a lot of money, but the Sox are a big payroll team and it's a done deal anyway, so try and get some value out of it
