  1. I'm with you man, I worked for a small firm and they didn't try to diversify so work dried up. Go with Overkill by Men at Work or the solo verion by Colin Hay
  2. that would be interesting. He's a great player, but the A's aren't that close to contending and they wouldn't resign him, wonder if it's part of a 3-way
  3. I am glad this is getting some publicity because it has been painfully obvious that Jeter has been vastly overrated on defense
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) I went to a small school where we had our prof's home phone numbers. It was a nice switch from what I heard lots of people had to deal with. I went to Elmhurst and it was basically the same thing, it made life much easier.
  5. Hopefully Hall is done with the Sox. He sounded like a great clubhouse guy, but I think a subtle move that could improve the team a lot is having a good backup catcher. AJ plays too much because the backup catchers haven't offered much.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) They will be competitive, but I think the Yanks are going to get fat this off-season, and will return to being the class of the division. I tend to agree with you. I think that the Yankees and Red Sox will make at least one major move each and I wouldn't be suprised if the O's did something to make themselves a little better, not to mention the Blue Jays, with a plus bat or two, will be very good. That's just such a rough division. I think the Rays will have an excellent team, but it's such a battlefield in the East it's hard to pick them to repeat.
  7. http://deadspin.com/5069963/time-to-play-g...ipped-bud-selig Looks like the Phils aren't overly thrilled with Uncle Bud!!
  8. Gabe Soplasky (sp?) out as ROH booker, Adam Pearce in. Seems like it came as a big of a shock, at least to the workers, Meltzer said none of them had any idea. Also, Meltzer reports Somoa Joe will work the next ROH show in Chicago Ridge, it will be a PPV taping, but Joe won't appear on the PPV portion
  9. It's a bad situation for MLB, but I think Bud and the boys made the right decision in saying it was going to go 9 no matter what. You can't have a WS game, much less the clinching game, go anything less than 9.
  10. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) that card sucked going in so they should have known what to expect. It didn't suck going in. It had a lack of marquee names, but you had two of their top 10 LWs in Sherk and Griffin (which IMO was the fight of the night), two arguably top 5 welterweights in Kos and Alves, arguably one of the top P4P fighters defending his belt and the guy the UFC had as their #1 HW contender before they went to the 4 man mini-tournament. Not to mention the undercard had a lot of intriguing matchups, ie Horwich making his debut against Miller (which was an awesome ground fight), the feud between Franca and Aureillious (sp?). Like I said, it didn't have a ton of big names, but it had a lot of great matchmaking, not every card can have Kimbo on it
  11. OK, as I've said before I'm very ignorant when it comes to the day and day out economic markets. What am I supposed to take from today? The futures were shut down, but as of a minute ago the Dow will basically only give up the gains from yesterday EDIT: Oops, sorry, it must have dropped between the delay I was looking at and the closing numbers, look like it gave up a little over 300
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) If it's either of those two straight up for Chone, then yuck! exactly, the Angels would jump on that in a second
  13. Got back late sunday night and had an absolute blast. It was about my 10th time out there and probably the best. We did a cabana at the MGM pool on Friday and got table service at Pure that night. Had an awesome meal at Okada in the Wynn on Saturday night. Just an all around awesome time
  14. The episodes of Oz involving Cyril in the last season made me cry
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) I make a small donation once a year to my undergrad school, which makes me a member of the alumni association. I do this because of what the school did for me, and because I believe it is an excellent university that should be well-funded. Education is just so very important, and good schools need funding to continue to be good. I do not donate to the school where I got my MBA, because I feel the school is poorly run and doesn't deserve another dime from me. That's how I feel about my law school, and when they called and asked for money I basically told them that
  16. I'm a no for right now. I went to law school and I'm only 29 so trying to get my feet under me still. Hopefully in the near future I can contribute. I went to Elmhurst and loved it and hope I can keep the school moving along
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) I don't know why he is called inexpensive when he makes $11 million a year and generally gives you a .500 record with an ERA at or above league average. He may have talent, but if you use results, he's an average at best pitcher. $11 million for that is very high. Probably right, but the contract is what it is at this point. I think he's a valuable 4-5 starter because he will eat innings and usually give your team a 50/50 shot to win. If some team is willing to give you quality talent or eat his entire contract so the Sox can sign or trade for another player than great, but if Vazquez is your 4 or 5th starter your team has larger problems. The Sox are also a top payroll team, and luxuries like an overpriced slightly above average pitchers are OK. Most of the teams in the playoffs would have been screwed if their 4th or 5th starter had to start alot of big games. Do you think the Red Sox would have been thrilled to have Wakefield start in similar games to Javy? Unfortunately the Sox couldn't sew up the division early enough
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) I'd suggest that speed is UNDERrated. Stolen bases, though, are overrated by some, and some people look at speed as simply stolen bases. The value of speed is much broader than that. That's a good point. I was refering to people just pointing at SBs and completely missing a guys SLG or OBP.
  19. Cuba. Mojitos are awesome and if you have a smoking house you can have cigars. Also you can make it tropical and encourage women to wear bikinis.
  20. QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 06:12 AM) I'm not sure if it's McMahon's fault or the writers fault (probably both) but I think wrrestling's biggest downfall is that there is a damn PPV every friggin' month and noone know how to build a storyline anymore. i remember back in the day (scratching my grey hair) when a there was only a few PPV's a year and everything built up for them. You had feuds that lasted 2,3 or even 4 months at a time building each week with each guy getting the upper hand and building some excitement for that Wrestlemania match. Now it's like...let's throw these two people together....give them a reason to feud...and end it in a month after the latest PPV. Granted, with all the young writers in the WWE now that might be all they know but still....i can't remember when the last time i watched a full WWE show on tv. every once in a while I'll stop and watch a moment in passing but that's it. I get your point, but I still think they can do it properly. During the onset of the "attitude" or austin era my friend had an illegal cable box so we watched every PPV for a year or two and they used the smaller PPVs to build to major matches at Survivor, Rumble, Mania and Slam. It can be done, I just think they're lacking that one incredible star who gains some mainstream buzz. Also, it comes down to money. Those PPVs still do OK buyrates.
  21. I was in my friends basement watching it and jokingly he called out both the grandslam and Pods HR before they happened.
  22. http://www.baseball-reference.com/f/figgich01.shtml OK, I'm on the fence with Figgins, leaning towards not being very impressed, but I'm open to arguments for him. So those posters who are in favor of the Sox obtaining him, tell me why. Please just don't say "speed" speed alone is overrated
  23. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) Supposedly Cade and Murdoch will teaming up to collect a rubber check from Ian Rotten at a December show in Joliet. RF Video (and I bought this before Feinstein got outed as a potential molester) has a video called something along the lines of "Things that Weren't Suppose to Happen in Pro Wrestling." The best thing on the video is Jim Cornette losing it at a drive-thru worker, but there's also an independent show where the promoter bailed without paying anyone and a vast majority of the workers refuse to work (don't blame them). Then Axl Rotten takes over the show, it's a real odd thing to witness and I'm suprised it doesn't happen a lot more.
  24. http://www.theonion.com/content/news/doubl...tropicana_field This is funny, the picture especially got me
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 03:14 AM) since 2004 on the road 427 IP, 3.31 ERA not nearly as bad as some might think, though certainly a bit overrated what's his fly ball/ground ball ratio?
