QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Our offense needs to concentrate. The two AAA pitchers that kept us in check on Saturday and Sunday shouldnt of been in each game past the 3rd inning either. Yet here we are. Our bad offense can make anyone look like Cy Young. I agree. I might have been over analyzing the game, but our vetran hitters looked nervous, which is a joke. It's come to the point they need to shake the lineup up. Oz can't trot the same thing out over and over again. -
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) congrats to Javy Vazquez for getting his 15th loss of the season. That's his career high and 3rd time he's done it. If the Sox manage to wriggle into the playoffs Javy better sniff nothing more than back end BP duty. I have more faith in Richard off his 1 start in Yankee Stadium.

9/24 Gamethread: Chicago @ Minnesota

I'm with you MaggsMaggs, let's get the W in game 2, we need MB to go out there and throw a hell of a game. His pickoff move makes him a lot more dangerous against the Twins. I posted this in the game thread, but Blackburn has sucked the last month. Looks like he pitches a hell of a lot better at home, but still, he hasn't pitched well lately and the Sox can't keep fouling off hangers. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/pspli...1&year=2008 -

http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/pspli...1&year=2008 Blackburn has sucked the last 28 days and sucked even more the last 14, but of course looks like he pitches a lot better at home. No excuses, he isn't pitching well, he needs to be hit hard -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) i do not want jermaine dye on the bench for the most important series of the season. we don't get to this point without his bat. and all this anderson pole gobbling is truly entertaining, please keep it up (so to speak). I agree with the Dye part of your post, but he can't hit 3rd anymore. Put Thome or PK in there. My lineup for tomorrow if I had my druthers: OC SS Swisher LF PK 1b Thome DH Dye RF Alexei 2b Anderson CF AJ C Uribe 3b -

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) I'm hoping that's his audition for being a late inning replacement unfortunately it will be an excuse for Ozzie to jam him in the starting lineup the next 5 games -

AJ can't bat 2nd anymore. He shouldn't have been hitting there for awhile now, but he absolutely flat out cannot be hitting in the 2nd spot tomorrow. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) I cannot wait for the post game interviews. Paul Konerko saying, well they are a good team, and man, we are playing in the dome. I just tip my cap to Baker. His ball was moving, and he was changing speeds, you know the s*** all pitchers do." Then Ozzie "Man, these piranhas bite, they nibble they look for blood. I hope we are ready for the indians and the tigers at home. No Brian Anderson wouldnt of gotten to that ball, Griffey is a HOFer and didnt" Buerhle "Well I dont like our chances, we are at the DOME. Strike haunted music." The Baker comments would drive me up the wall the most. He didn't have great stuff tonight and threw a lot of bad pitches that the offense fouled off. I agree, f*** worrying about "bulletin board" material, someone in this org needs to say f*** the Twins, we played like s*** tonight and we can beat this team anywhere.... but I'm expecting more of what you posted -
Javy was Javy tonight unfortunately. Just tossing pitches up there without any real purpose behind them. Javy will likely be back next year, but at this point in his career he needs to be a 4th or 5th starter. Let him eat innings and his up and down BS will fit better at the back end of a rotation. What drove me more insane than Javy's pitching was the offense. With the stuff Baker had tonight it was a complete joke that he went 7 giving up 1R on 5 hits. Hopefully AJ and Dye are moved out of the 2 and 3 slot. You can't put all the blame on them, but they need to move from those spots ASAP. Well 2 more games in this series, hopefully MB shows up tomorrow. At least his pickoff move should help neutralize some of this crap.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) I'll pick it up too, I enjoyed their last record which went mostly unnoticed. They're very good, but awful live...at least the night I saw them. One big wall of sound with everything was turned up to eleven, you couldn't even make out what song was being played. where did you see them at? I've seen them a number of times and they've always sounded good. However, I can easily see how in the wrong venue or with the wrong sound person they would sound terrible, their live show is heavily Noel guitar driven, so if that is f'd up the whole thing could go to pot

QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) I know Swish is cold, but he hits Baker pretty well. Wise is a crapshoot, but I like the fact that he's hot right now. I can't believe I'm going to watch the Sox put their season on the line again in the Dome. So many bad memories. I'm a big Swish fan and he obviously hasn't done a lot to help his cause this year, so I'm not really sure what to make of him not playing tonight. I think ultimately Wise has been hot and goofier things have happened in baseball than Dewayne Wise having a big series, so I think you have to try and ride his hot hand. I'm just concerned Baker's PC will be about 70 through 6 innings. The Twins pen is bad and need to get into it early in this series -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Same thing with Thigpen the year he broke the record. He was a very good closer, but far from lights-out. The majority of those saves, like Jenks, you were on the edge of your seat and throwing the remote at the t.v. if you forgot to put it down. I also think the years of overuse are catching up with Shields and K-Rod. Which will make it laughable when a team gives him an insane contract -

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) I loved both styles of albums the same.In fact I think its refreshing when a band comes out with a great album and to follow that up with a different direction on the next and still sound great even though the safer route would have been putting out something similar to the first. That is what seperates the great bands that Iam excited to hear their new albums months before they even come out and the bands that fade away never to be heard from again. I really dig both their albums and I am very excited about the new one. I was at my limits with all the horrible new music coming out, be it horrible pop music, (and I like good pop music) "new metal" crap, etc., but I was listening to Loveline one night and The Killers were the guests, first song I heard by them was Mr. Brightside and I was instantly hooked, bought the album ASAP. Similar thing happened, as I mentioned a page or two ago, this week with "Sometime Around Midnight" by the Airborne Toxic Event, although I haven't got the new album since my I-Pod was jacked at work and haven't got a new one yet. I know this will probably get me flamed here, but I'm a HUGE Oasis fan and looking forward to their new album as well.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) To cut out the Always Sunny talk... This week's SNL, starring James Franco, was absolutely hilarious from start to finish. It really showed me that SNL might be back (as long as untalented sports stars not named Peyton Manning aren't hosting)... That entire episode had me crying. I will have to catch that episode somewhere. James Franco does a ton of funny stuff at http://www.funnyordie.com/search/james%20franco One of my favorites is when he and Mila Kunis do a scene from The Hills

Great to see a father using his young child as a tool for his political agenda -
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) I thought it was just a decent card, typical for a Spike show. I do believe we've seen the last of Houston Alexander though. Maybe, but they kept Alexio Sakara (sp?) around because he can provide exciting fights. I wouldn't be shocked if they kept him around and stuck him on undercards with other primarily standup guys to have fights that could potentially warm up a crowd. Also, the UFC might keep him around for the "image" factor. He's a single father and seemingly good guy, so it helps deflect some of the lingering mainstream image that the sport is for thugs

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) Until there is a hard salary cap, baseball will never truly achieve parity. The fact that the 2000 Yankees are the last repeat world champions is more of a testament to how much of a crapshoot the postseason is then anything else. Look at this year, there is a distinct possibility that half of the postseason teams will be from the 2nd and 3rd largest cities in America, with team 5 from the largest market, and team 6 from the 6th largest market. That list doesn't even include Boston and their huge payroll. Parity has improved in the last decade, but it's nowhere near where it needs to be. Good point. Look at this year. The D'Backs are about 2 out, but if they make a late push they have potentially the best 1 and 2 in the playoffs and it wouldn't be a huge upset if they win their first round.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) What's so devastating is this team, even without Quentin shouldn't be dominated like that. There's too much good on offense, even if they are old and you add that their skills have depreciated. As a group, they still should be Top 5 IMHO. Oh yeah, if people are tired, there's Brian. I agree with you. Q was awesome this year, but take the Hughes game for example or last night 1st inning, this offense should have scored many more runs. -
I was listening to WXRT last night and they played a song called "Sometime Around Midnight" by Airborne Toxic Event. I fell in love with it. Has it been around awhile? Anyone hear anything else by the band? Their album is on I-Tunes, I may get it

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) I don't think you can go into the season with Clayton/Broadway at 5. There is a decent chance one of Floyd/Danks regress, and you have to be prepared for that. Clayton and Broadway provide decent depth, but they need more stability. I do agree with you on that and I hope that KW adds another veteran either via FA or trade.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) The problem is that if there were 4 drunk girls in the car, it's likely at least one and maybe two of them threw up. That's a real deal breaker IMO. just carry around some Altoids

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) This is the time we need players to step up and deliver as a team Dye needs to step up, i'm calling him out
