top of the 9th coming up (on gameday at least!) 6-4 Tribe -
it was a good card. The Danzig/Guida action dissapointed some (SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!) Guida grinded out a win, not his typicall wild fight, but it was a big win for his career. other fights were very entertaining

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) well, that's interesting, that's just me picking out ABs and they are sticking out in my mind. Just frustrated with the whole game, that one sucked. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bspli...1&year=2008 yeah, also no homers and a .773 OPS -

wow, was watching that game in PIP during the UFC. Damn, that sucked. Hats off to Richard. That was one of the worst offensive efforts I can remember. Ozzie HAS to stop giving outs up and PK has to be hitting 3rd, Dye has been brutual lately. Hopefully Cleveland will help out and knock the magic number down one tonight. -
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) since there isn't a catch-all anymore, i figured i'd throw this in here our defense has been pretty sub-par this year. i went through all of the contending AL teams, and looked at their earned runs allowed and compared it to total runs allowed, then looking at what the percentage of each of these teams runs allowed were unearned runs we're by far the worst. 10.4% of the runs this team has given up in 2008, were unearned runs second is the twins at 9.1% third is toronto at 8.1% (they've given up the fewest total of runs, but have allowed as many unearned as teams that have allowed more runs on the year. for their percentage to drop into the 7% range, they would've had to allow about 10 fewer unearned runs or so) fourth is the angels at 7.7% fifth is tampa bay at 7.6% and the best is the red sox at 7.2% again, these are the percentage of total runs allowed, that are unearned interesting stat, it's weird that the top 5 consist of the three first place teams and the WC leader. Some of it is our pitchers inability to pitch over mistakes on a regular basis

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) I think it's more that it's difficult to enforce, not unenforceable. Courts enforce them under the right circumstances. I would have to think that this would be one of them, especially since he resigned. Like everything though, depends on the language of the agreement. If all the terms are reasonable (say, "you can't work for the Trib for 2 years) it'll be enforced, if not ("you can never work for another chicago paper ever again), it won't. I can't imagine an organization like the Sun-Times not having really good lawyers who know what will and will not be enforced. I posted about this earlier in the thread, but we covered it in Contracts class, and if I remember correctly there is a test to see if they are enforceable. I still haven't dusted off my old laptop to look at the notes

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) One time I thought I seen Fisk and I kind of freaked out,I nervously went up to him and said "hey!I was a big fan of your's,you are Carlton Fisk."And he replied "no,who is that?".To this day I dont know if it was Fisk messing with me or if it was really some guy that looked exactly like him. He use to work out every so often at the gym I go to. I approached him and he was very nice.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Jimbo and I have said that he rarely throws strikes, he gets hitters to chase his stuff. That isn't happening as much as it used to. The defense has let him down a couple of times in the last month or so, plus he threw a game losing error to 3rd base against Oakland. It could also be he's losing confidence in his stuff. I mostly think it's the control issue. It almost seems like most hitters try to take a strike from him, and it's been working. I read that as "despite his recent woes, he will have zero problems with the Sox hitters."

Anyone play Rock Band II yet? I'm sure it's the same, but I love those games and going over to friends house on Saturday to do a marathan session

Top 10 sites for sports trolls
SoxFan562004 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
IMO trolls are people who go on sites to try and start arguments and be general a-holes. Deadspin's comments section is just people busting on stories in the sports world, not trying to start arguments. if you're a fan of MMA then sherdog.com is a place to see trolls who don't add to threads, just try and start arguments and get people to bite -

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) I have a sneaking suspicion that Richard may get lit up tonight. This has a chance to be a high scoring game, Hughes hasn't exactly been lights out either this year -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) i could be completely wrong, but i know i remember someone on our staff saying he doesn't like going with extra rest...not sure if it was javy who said it or not Now that I think about it, that might be what I remember. I think earlier this year they gave another starter an extra day rest so Javy didn't go any longer than 4 days. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) Let's see. 6 Sox wins + 4 Twins losses = 10. Yes, your math is right. Sorry. I just couldn't resist. lol, yes I was confident in the math, just wasn't 100% sure if the magic number was 10 or not.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) My main point is that Minnesota is probably going to lose 5 or 6 of their remaining 11 games, not that the Sox are going to go on some tear or something Good point. I think if my math is right the Sox can go 6-5 and if the Twins lose 4 games it's over and the Detroit game isn't necessary (I believe the magic number is 10)

QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) any clue as to why the listed pitcher change? good for you to get your ass to NY to support. must be awesome! Yeah, I'm still not 100% sure who is starting. Clayton was warming up in this series, so I'm not sure who's starting. If the best case scenario works out and the Sox bash out a victory and the Twins lose tonight, I would be tempted with the 3 1/2 game lead to start either Clayton or Broadway (whoever doesn't start tonight) tomorrow and let the rest of the rotation go on regular rest. I seem to remember that Javy pitches horribly if he doesn't get exaclty 4 days rest -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) I don't want to jinx anything, but these things bode really well for the White Sox: as tough as minnesota has appeared to us at the dome, they just split 6 games against 70-80 detroit and 67-84 kansas city, two bottom 5 teams in the AL. twins are 8-14 in their last 22 on the road, and this includes 1 series at third place oakland, 1 series at third place cleveland, 1 series at fourth place toronto, 1 series at last place baltimore, and 2 series at WORST place seattle. overall, the twins are 8-15 in their last 23, a sub .400 overall winning percentage. sure seems like a choke to me Yeah, but I'll play devils advocate since I'm a Sox fan and supposed to be negative. From what I've seen the Sox are going to ask their starters to go on short rest in the KC series, that may neutralize some of the advantage the Sox have. Then you have to play the series in Minny, which we all know how horribly wrong that could go. Finally, the Indians are not an easy beat at this point, they have been playing well and Lee will pitch in that series. We'll see, it will be exciting

PK has been great since August. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bspli...1&year=2008 a sOPS+ of 184 in August and 200 in September is just flat out carrying this team

Anyone else catch the flu-like bug that's going around? I got it Sunday and I am feeling marginaly better today. It sucked because I had to meet with someone on Monday and have a hearing on Tuesday, so I had to drug up and drag myself through the last two days. I'm at the office today, but doing light work since I don't have any impending deadlines

deadspin is saying the Trib is using the noncompete clause as a front, but there were rumblings of mass resignations if he was hired since the Trib just had a round of layoffs. Who knows if that's true. The newspaper industry is hurting right now, so I'm not sure if a number of people would have given up their jobs. http://deadspin.com/5050961/tribune-kills-...pulace-rejoices If/when he lands a job outside of Chicago I imagine one of his first pieces will be a rip job off Chicago as a whole

I don't have the Season Pass and only get to see box scores, so I'm curious, what's been wrong with Nathan? Is his defense letting him down or has he lost something in his pitches?
