  1. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 05:57 AM) Apparently Wood got mad at Jolbert Cabrera for celebrating too much after a game winning hit. Wood must not pay attention to his teammates when they play at home too much, they celebrate pretty much everything that happens. It's "Ron Santo syndrome." He completely ignores Zambrano and seemingly anytime one of them gets a double and acts like they hit it in a tie world series game, but rips on other teams when they show emotion.
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) very, very curious to see how this team will respond. Me too. There's plenty of guys left from the WS team still around, so this team should still know how to get it done. I am anxious to see how Linebrink looks in his first action.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) Why not Griffey LF, Swisher CF? because it's Ozzie. I know that is a s***ty reason, but what other logical one is there? Now, I haven't seen the official lineup, so maybe I'm jumping the gun, but a poster in the gamethread mentioned it. The only way I could have defended it is if Swisher's batting numbers increase dramatically when he plays a corner outfield, but screw that, he's a far better option in CF right now than sticking Griffey out there
  4. The whole move still seems odd to me. Not saying a team can never leave a city, but this one just seemed to go down badly. LOL, I just went and looked at the other names up for consideration, damn you are all right, those are horrible
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Good thing we have Griffey huh? Oh, he's hurt too? Damn. no, looking at the game thread apparently he's in the lineup tonight and.... wait for it, wait for it... playing CF
  6. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) Why is Griffey in CF? Why why why why why. Even easier to get him out of CF with LF open, but no. f***ing retarded. Damn, that's dissapointing. There is zero reason he should ever step foot in CF while CQ is hurt. Swisher isn't Torii Hunter out there, but he gets quality jumps and plays a FAR better CF. This is just Ozzie having zero imagination
  7. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) it does, no way around that really. quentin has come through time and time again this year. his numbers are no doubt great, but to me that's secondary to when he's accrued them. it seems like he has delivered in key situations again and again. that can't be replaced. at the same time, at least there are viable options. if you don't make the griffey trade you are looking at seeing a lot of anderson/owens in the line-up. while i do like anderson i am not confident he's the guy who can step it up in a pennant race. at the least you insert a veteran first-ballot hall of famer who has shown he can get on hot streaks. so that gives me a little hope. false hope? perhaps. but it beats none at all. It's not false hope, the team right now CAN beat out the Twins. Will they? Who knows, it did get a lot harder without CQ, but I believe they still can. As I posted earlier, first and foremost the pitching has to step it up. If they pitch like they have been, it wouldn't have mattered if they had mid 90's Frank in the lineup, they still wouldn't win the division.
  8. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) Piniella's been like this for 2 years and hasn't been called on it. The guy's a first class grouch and bully, and those media members are completely intimidated. Why doesn't someone ask what a lot of us have wondered: how the hell can you take a guy from the DL and let him throw 120 and 130 pitches just a couple of weeks later? Yost rightly gets criticized for riding Sabathia too hard -- but Lou deserved questions about this a LONG time ago. there is a big difference between Sabathia/Yost and Zambrano/Pinella IMO. There is a 99% chance that CC is not going to be with the Brewers next year and Z signed an extension with the Cubs.
  9. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) It goes against logic, and probably isn't close to true, but I actually agree with this. Having a healthy Dotel-Linebrink-Jenks back end of the bullpen does WONDERS for this team. When the hitters are going right, there is enough offense in the lineup Quentin's loss can be overcome. Now I don't think Linebrink is healthy, and will have a great impact on this club, but if he does come back strong, this team still has a very legit shot at the post-season. The pitching had to get better even with CQ at full strength in the lineup to give this team a chance to win. Hopefully the starters come around and Linebrink is healthy and this team shows signs of life and doesn't roll over and die.
  10. Worst thing Ozzie can do is force Owens into the lineup using the "speed" excuse. While Owens has speed, he can't get on base
  11. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Damn, this sucks...first Joe Crede, then Scott Linebrink,Jose Contreras and now our MVP...in my opinion,I'd rather we shut him down for the rest of the season than risk a career ending injury...buena suerte paisano.CQ you da man!! I think Linebrink's status is even more magnified now, it sounds like he's ready to pitch in a game, Ozzie just doesn't want to stick him in a close game, so if there's a drubbing going on this weekend, hopefully he's the first pitcher in. I think Swisher has to move to the 2 spot now. I know he's sucked out loud lately, but his OBP needs to be there so when Dye, PK, and Thome are up there's more men on base. I love AJ, but it's time for him to be dropped, only because of his OBP. We need OC and Swish to have good ABs in front of the heart of the order
  12. QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) I know. This sure makes the Griffey trade look that much better. Things can look up if Swisher can perform at career levels, Griffey Perform at a respectable pace and Carlos coming back in October, there's also a post on the previous page that reports they will take the pin out in a few weeks and reevaluate, he might come back this year. Again, it sounds a lot like the Longoria injury, and they said he should be back soon. It does piss me off that the report is he hurt himself punching a locker, that drives me crazy
  13. QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) I guess it's time to say Go Bears? Bulls? NM Come on Ranger!!! it's still Go Sox!!!
  14. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) Yes, they touched on it. They said they were gonna use the pin to re-evaluate in a couple weeks. Most likely done for the rest of the regular season, but not definitely. October remains optimistic. thanks for posting that, that actually makes me feel a lot better
  15. http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playerpag...MLB&id=4412 this is following a similar path to Evan Longoria's injury, but it doesn't look like he got surgery
  16. QUOTE (lord chas @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) any chance he might try or be able to play through it? you would probably get the ABs he's been having the last week or two, which haven't been spectacular.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Any word on how severe it is? A break can be anything from a slight fracture to shattered There's no word yet, but if you want to be optomistic, it sounds like the X-Rays didn't pick it up and he's been trying to deal with it for a week or two, so hopefully it's just slightly fractured.
  18. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/1114751 with the very little we know right now it sounds like a similar injury to what Longoria had
  19. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Bruce Levine confirms Quentin is out for the season. Did he expand at all on that? Is it regular season only? He give any details on the severity?
  20. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) Hawk has stuff? He should have marketed those eyepatches
  21. Great job Bobby. I am really anxious to see what Linebrink has, if he can contribute it helps tremendously
  22. Bobby is a HUGE fan of DP, both in baseball and in his cinema selection
  23. and a caught stealing ends the inning, come on Bobby, let's end this
  24. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) a squirrel running across the field of play sure beats a black cat doing the same... Come on, you're using Cubs fans new curse if Zambrano is hurt
  25. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) I'm a big fan of DJ's. I think he's fun. It started when they showed to birds on the wire supporting the net and then showed a shot of my sister and brother-in-law sitting in the patio area holding hands and DJ was referring to them as two sets of lovebirds.
